It's my go to knot. Only time I don't use t is when the lure or whatever is to large to feed back through the loop.

I had very similar results out of I-Bay. Marked a lot of fish from 50 to 100 feet. One hit on wire but nobody home.

Dropped in around 80' and trolled to about 160'. Got a little to rough with the rollers for my 16' Lund.

Picked up and went back in to about 100'. Set rigger with Carbon 14 at 70', wire at 130' with SD and Atom-Mik fly & 5 core with pink/yellow Reef Runner. Trolled towards shore into the wind to about 80'. Raised rigger to 65'

Had a screamer on the wire but was off by the time I got to it. A release on the rigger but got off after about a 20' retrieve. Caught small Brown (6-7#) on Carbon 14 at 65', 12# Bow on core and 11# Brown on rigger at 65'.

All hits were trolling into the wind. Tough day controling the boat alone with fish on while going into the wind. The Bow went all over the place and ended up crossing the wire and wrapping it. Lucky I landed him.

I agree with BrokeOff, wire Dipsy is the way to go this time of the year.

The guys on this forum basically talked me into it earlier this season.

I wish I could run one out each side. However, I allways fish alone and my boat only has a 73" beam. This can present problems with multiple lines out the sides. My normal setup is rigger with cheater, wire dipsy at 2 1/2 on the same side and core out the other side, sometimes with additional weight. This way I can bring a fish in on the core side, which is out 50+ feet from the side of the boat. Doesn't matter what line was hit as I have clearance on the core side.

Most of the summer the fish have been on the wire/dipsy or rigger. It seems some days they prefer one over the other. Most of the summer the core has been quiet even thoughI have marked fish in the top 30 or so feet.

However, starting a week or so ago in shallower water (70-100 feet), I have been picking up a few fish on the core, both Kings and Browns.

Hope the wind dies down so I can get back out. I really need a bigger boat but at my age 71 I'm not going to make that plunge. At least I can fish any day I want, weahter permitting.

A good morning for me in my 16.5 foot Lund and as always fishiing alone.

Maybe I'm thinking wrong but I don't see why rigger weight blow back and actual depth is actually a concern.

If I'm marking fish at say 80' and my rigger weight is showing on my Sonar at 80', then does it really matter exactly how deep my weight is?

Don't I actually want the rigger at a specific depth relative to the fish I am making?

If this is true, then the actual rigger depth is not significant.

Or am I all wet ???

My vote is also for the SPRO. They are the best small size ones I have ever used. Never had one come apart yet.

Whatever you get make sure they have welded rings and NOT split rings.

I am looking for advice on whether to mount my new dippsy rod holders, which are Berts Ratchet style, on the right and left sides near the transom or up closer to the middle of the boat (helm position).

Due to the location of rod storage lockers these postions are my only choices.

Which position would be better for turning, etc. and cause less potential for line fouling with riggers and in-line planers?

I currently use snap weights of in-line boards and have then in weights from 1/2 oz. to 3 oz. My line is 15# big game. I put the weigh on the snap swivel at the end of the 15# big game and then attach a 5-6' leader on to the weight with lure at the end.

I always fish alone and am therefore limited to 3 lines. My normal setup is rigger with cheater off of the port stern, wire out port side and in-line planer out starboard side. I do not want to go to 2 wires.

I've read a lot on this forum about lead core.

Would the lead core work better than snap weights?

If so, how could I rig a core to work for different depths without having multiple rods and reels with different numbers of core on them?

Assuming I will be using the mentioned spoons and color combos for Bows, what would you suggest for getting to the correct depth;

Rigger, Dipsy, weights,etc.?

Would you run just the spoons or put a flasher or ?? in front of?

I am rigging my first wire rig for a dippsy rig.

I purchased a Diawa Sealine 47 line counter reel, 1000' of 30# wire and 30# big game for backing and leaders.

I have been looking at both the Diawa Heartland 9'6" dippsy rod and the Okuma Blue Diamond 10' dippsy rod and cannot decide which to buy.

Which of the above (2) rods would you recommend?

I was using 15# big game.

I have a large spool of 20# Cortland flea flicker on order.

Hopefully that will eliminate my problem.

I am new to Lake Ontario Salmon and Trout fishing.

Today the fleas cost me about a 7-8 pound laker and almost cost me a 15+ pounder.

Both fish were off the rigger at about 100 feet over 140 feet. The first fish came after about 1 hour of trolling and when I brought him in I had to stop and clean my off my line about a dozen times. I lost him along side the boat. After that I brought up the rigger around every 20 minutes and cleaned the line.

Luckly on the second one, the 15+ pounder, my line was much cleaner and required considerably less cleaning on the way in. However it was still a royal PITA. Actually, considering the flea problem, I was lucky to boat this fish which pegged my 15# scale.

My question is how long do these fleas last? Hopefully not the rest of the season.
