There will always be enough people around to help you if you need it specially this time of the year. Generally as far as waves are concerned the lake tends to lay down during the evening for the most part.

I find afternoons are often more productive specially when the morning bite is slow. The last 2 hrs of daylight can be fire !

Oak Orchard Questions Hi everyone. I'm from Ohio and fish the area a ton in the fall, winter, and spring in the streams and Niagara River, but haven't done much on Lake O in about 10 years. I'm heading up that way next week for a business trip and towing along my boat and my dad who's retired. We're going to try to fish the lake out of Oak Orchard on Tuesday, and I'd really appreciate a few pointers to get started. I'm not looking for anyone's secret sauce, just any tips anyone is willing to share to get us started and hopefully get my dad into a fish or 2. I have an 18' Tracker and good trolling rods & reels with line counters. I've got plenty of dipseys, jets, snap weights, spin doctors, and boards and all the necessary spoons, flies, etc...unfortunately, no riggers. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Jrich,
Oak is my home port, I fished there this morning.... inside was bath water down to 95ft. We trolled north and found good temp and a nice mix of kings and steelies from 300 -350 fow. We had 51 degrees down 70ft. Our 150 and 180 divers on a 1.5 setting divers were our best rods today with SD flys and meat rigs. Hope this helps. Good luck !

If your gettin bit on turns it's just speed. If your getting bit on the outside they want it faster. If your inside rods are getting bit they want it slower. Always pay attention to your speed when your getting bites this can be the one difference between lighting them up or only getting a bite here and there.

Fished friday through monday for browns, ended up boating some hog BTs 8 to 10 fow running stick baits on boards and spoons off riggers. Best water was east of port 51°f and good color. Each trip averaged around 20 or so bites and probably a 50/60% landing ratio. Hot colors were black/silver black/gold and purple. over all a fun weekend and my father ended up pulling a 16.8 lb Brown. Overall an awesome weekend !

One or two color led core down the chute with stingers or evil eyes always produce my biggest fish when targeting browns inside of 15 fow.

When running slower in the spring I like to put out lighter spoons like stingers they run well at 2.0-2.2 I useally like to put them a little higher in the water colum or wherever I'm marking suspended fish

Gotcha, thanks guys! Can't wait to join the fishery and hopefully see some of you on the water!
I have seen some videos of Yakima Mag Lips being used with success on the bar in may, anyone have any experience with these being good or was it likely a plug for their sponsor?
Finally, anything specific you guys do as far as certain classes of fish you release or anything to keep the fishery sustainable? I'm all about conservation and making sure we can enjoy these things for years to come

This ! This is the best question yet. I'm sure many will also agree. It's awesome to see people from out of state showing interest is sustaining the fishery here. Unfortunetally this isn't as common as It should be though. ...... IMO I release every fish that appears to be in good shape and not gill hooked or over fatigued from the fight. It's important to revive fish as best as you can a good way to do this is to get a boga grip and tie a rope to it long enough for it to reach the water with a fish on it while attached to your rod holder ect. Leave the fish on there for a few minutes while trolling once the fish is upright and kicking they should swim off with no issue. If you do plan on keeping fish though generally anything over 20 lbs Is a mature fish in Lake O.

Thanks I have the double keel set up I think I have to tweek the knot configuration
Sent from my SM-G900V using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
Regular big jon stuff... I'm talking about the rope and knot placement on the board it's self... sorry for the confusion lol
Sent from my SM-G900V using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
When running the extra keel do you have to change the length of the tow line to get it to pull harder.... I have mine at the same length big jon says to put it at for the single keel, it pulls good but iv seen others track better, thanks
