    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

    ====================

    I decided to sneak out after work for a few hours by myself and give it a shot. Decided to drop the rigger w/ the probe first to get an idea on temp - dropped a black nk w/ white bottom. It was down 30 seconds and the rod started bouncing - ended up getting a small king. I dropped that back down and then let out the two wires. A friend gave me a quick tip and said try 70-90 fow. Right away had 2 swings and misses on the 210 wire so I kept a nice west troll and bounced from 70-90. Switched the spoon out on the rigger for a spin dr and green fly and picked up a small steelie. Then the wire w/ the white e chip and green fly wouldn't stop hitting. Ended up with 2 more kings 23 and 24lbs and another steelie about 7 pounds. I'm glad it was calm because trying to reel in decent king and keep him out of the other rods is quite the chore. It was a fun night and I'm glad I was able to get out.

    I'll try and add a couple pics later tonight.

    8/23 I was able to sneak out after work again last night and we had a pretty good run. The night didn't start off very promising dropping the first 4 fish with one straightening out the hook of the fly. We fished close again 70 - 90 fow. white echip flasher and green fly was hot again on the wire w/ dipseys 210 - 250. Also had some good luck with the SD on the riggers down 80-90 ft w/ a 40 ft lead off the ball. I tried closer but no luck. We went 5-10 w/ 3 over 20lbs. I'm not going to be able to make it out again until Monday so save a couple slobs out there for me!!

    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

    ====================

    Had a good couple of days fishing. The wind definitely made it tough on Saturday. We didn't pick up our first fish until about 8am - small king. It was really tough finding the fish. Best water for us was around 310 feet - we were constantly marking and catching fish then. Lost a nice king right behind the boat on an NK ladder back. Seemed like we just started to figure it out and 12 oclock hit....Time to head in and get ready to go to a wedding for a good buddy. :( They would have to wait until Sunday.

    Headed back to the deep water Sunday morning. I put both riggers down 100 and 120 w/ a couple NK spoons and then moved on to dropping the wire back when the 100 rigger fires. We picked up a nice 8lb steelhead and tossed him back. Finally got everything set up - wire was back 300 and 325. All of a sudden the 300 wire starts screaming I grabbed the rod only to have fish pull off in seconds. So I get that one set back up and the 325 wire goes and we pick up a small king then pick up a 21lber on the 300 wire about 20 mins later. We ended up picking up a few more small kings and steelies but nothing big. Lost a couple that were ripping pretty good on the wires but the big hits kept dropping. We had a pretty solid weekend just couldn't get any big fish in the boat.

    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

    ====================

    Lake was a little ridiculous today but I had to go out. Fished the first 3 hours solo which was a chore. Hooked up right away in 225ft of water w/ 200 ft of wire out - ended up losing that fish. About an hour later picked up about a 10lb steelhead on a blue fly back 300. At 430 my buddy made it to the dock and made a quick run in to grab him to finish off the evening and was hoping the wind would let up. I was wrong - it kept getting worse! We hit 100ft and dropped both wires out and pushed out to 200ft and decided to turn and head back in. On the way in we had the wire back 300, for some reason decided to drop it back another 30 ft. Just snugged up the drag and it started bouncing. Ended up picking up a small 15 pound king and decided to get the hell out of there. I can only hope the waves slow down tomorrow. Tough fishing but at least we didn't get skunked.

    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

    I was really excited to be out on the water at 630 - weather was perfect! Unfortunately the boat decided not to cooperate :( - temperature started rising and I cut it before we got too hot. Made it back to the dock and took a trip to the Boat Doctors in Olcott. Told them the problem I was having and said he would take a look at it as soon as he could. Boat was ready before 12 - I can't tell you how much I appreciate the service that has been provided to me at the Boat Doctors - straight shooter, great advice and very fair on prices. I will be sure to work with them going forward.

    So, we were back on the water and fishing a little after 2. We headed straight out of Wilson hit 100 feet and dropped the lines. Decided to ride with the waves and head west and I'm glad we did. Picked up a 10lb steelie around 230 in 180 feet of water down 85 on the rigger. He hit a magnum NK silver with an orange stripe. Good start to the day, the person I tasked with driving while I set up was having some issues keeping the boat straight so I jumped in the drivers seat for a bit. That turned out to be a mistake - I was watching the rods when a rigger popped and I couldn't get to it and my crew didn't really understand what was happening :@ . So after another refresher we were good to go. Starting trolling with the wind and it made it much easier for them to keep the boat straight. Moved the right wire back to 160 from 140 and it starting thumping, grabbed it and picked up a nice 14lb king. Got it set back up at 160 and dropped the left back to 300 and that one started screaming. Gave the rod to one of the rookies and he was in for a pretty solid fight. I was cracking up when he kept having to shake his arm out. About 15 mins later we landed a nice 23lb King.

    I was happy we had a few in the boat and took back to the drivers seat to head back east to not get to far from port and let the rookies handle the rods. The rigger popped and Paul jumped right on that one and we grabbed anohter 10lb or so king. Then both divers start bouncing and taking line. I pulled up both riggers and let them work the fish. Paul end up dipping the rod down a little to low and created some slack and his was gone. We were able to get the other one in which turned out to be about a 14" steelie. Had a few more misses after that and decided to call it a day. After a not so pleasant start it ended up to be a pretty solid day! The 2 rookies hada good time and I"m sure they will be back out with me in the near future. Towards the end of the day they really started to figure it out. :yes:

    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

    ====================

    Had a great day for the 2nd time out with a new boat! I ran two spoons on the down riggers and two coppers out the side. All the hits were on the down riggers - I must be doing something wrong with the copper? I tried any where from 150 to 300 feet back and everything in between. Also ran different color flashers and flies with no luck. I did catch one steelhead on a white fly but it was on the down rigger. The black and white spoon was hot! I need to get a couple more but can't find them anywhere.

    Caught the first steelhead in 183ft 70ft down at about 730. It was a little over 10lbs - it was a great fight to watch as I couldn't keep him in the water. We were pretty excited beause at least we knew we would not get skunked. I think I should have been a little deeper for the kings but was happy to at least be getting a few fish. At 930 I dropped the black and white spoon down to 85ft...it wasn't there 2 minutes and the drag started screaming. I grabbed the rod and handed it to my dad - he couldn't make any ground for a little bit and started to tighten up the drag on the rod. My friend Mark and I yelled at him and he left it alone for the rest of the fight. 15 minutes later we boated a 27.5lb King!

    All in it was a great day! I can't wait to get out next week and try to hammer them again!

    I have fished the lake with my uncle quite a few times but am on my own now. I plan on running 30lb copper for dipsys (too light??) Picked up some flashers to run behind the dipsys - any preference on leader? Any color combos I should try?

    I did fish Sunday and picked up one steelhead on the 30lb copper back 190 spin dr with a blue fly. Missed another down 50 on the rigger black and purple nk spoon. 20 ft behind the ball. Not far enough?

    I really appreciate any and all help. My dad is coming out to fish Thurs n Fri and hoping to show him a good time!

    Thanks and good luck!
