Thumb the spool, rod tip to the side and back, sweeping motion towards the bow. Don't jerk or snap the rod back. No loose line when you start reeling.

X2, snapping the rod will likely result in a lost dipsey

you can call mikes marina in mexico 315-963-3119 and ask,but its about 13 miles from Oswego or you can just launch right in mexico.you can also try k&g lodge in Oswego, not sure if greg would do it.

Mikes does do it, I've left mine there at times.

  3. We fish mainly live herring on the flats but some guys do very well with chunk, only problem with chunk is catfish and eels also like it. Night crawlers may work but I think you would be fighting mostly catfish and eels again. Trolling with big stick baits on channel breaks or even in the channel will usually get you more fish but they lack in size compared to using bait.

  4. We usually try to keep the fish directly at the back of the boat but if they go to the side so be it.When they are ready the person fighting the fish backs up and lifts the head up, netting head first. Never had a problem like this. Sk8man is 100% right about  experience on the net, they know when the fish can be netted. One thing for sure is don't horse the fish, they tend to break line that way no matter what test.

Simple spreads are proven to produce more fish....
For instance, I used to run 5 riggers. As the zebra mussels have cleared the water, the fish can be spooky. I switched to 3 riggers and as an average i took more rigger shots.... My theory is less cable hum in the water column.
90% of the time I run fixed or slide cheaters in order to get more lures in the strike zone.
Divers- usually only one per side....
Junk lines- if it's rough- one copper or lead core ( depending on where the temp is) down the chute.... If conditions are ok ( boat traffic or waves) then I will run one on each side off Otter Boats..
Simple spreads mean less tangles, your lures are in the strike zone longer, and easier to manage if you get more than one fish on... Tight lines

X3, most of the time I run a chute copper, sometimes one off each side. One thing I do believe in is the free sliders with flutter spoons, usually Evil Eyes. You cover more of the upper part of the zone and I get a lot of steelies and later cohos with them.

And once again the Republican Party keeps giving us duds as candidates ...time to start a new party. “Which corrupt politician should I vote for?” should not be  our choice.

I think Marc is a great all around guy and a great candidate, I'm in a boardering  county from where he's from. There's two problems I see, one he's realarively young considering and not many people know him other than his area and two as stated previously, Cuomo has the NYC area in his pocket and that's a lot of votes

  7. I believe they will try for them all but at the very least the popular ones for the area you're in. East end 68-72 but with scanning radios should be able to pick up any. CG will also broadcast bad weather. Keep eyes to the west, if it starts to look bad a quick check for radar on a smart phone will help also. Lady O can rear her ugly head real fast if she wants too.

As a weekend warrior I would like to thank Jason Martin for getting on the radio and telling me that with the change in wind direction it was going to get bad. Pulled rods and headed in and was very thankful that I did! With that being said I would ask those of you with the experience (Chaters capt.) to let guys like me ( weekenders) that your heading because of weather and not because your boxed out .

I have only fished the east end and there are plenty of times when charter captains will issue bad weather approaching broadcasts even telling how much time before it should hit yet they are ignored. I would dare say it's the same on the entire length of the lake. They may not tell you their secrets of how and where they're fishing but they do look out for others safety and if they say it, believe it and quit.

I'll 2nd that...I cannot tell you how many times I've rolled up the creek first thing in the the morning with the bigger boats passed the breakwall and drove rite around it and back down the creek..in a way it kinda hurts your pride watching them motor right on by and head for the fish but I respect the people who are on my boat and would rather live to fish another day.... with that being said if someone wants to take risks on their own boat with their own life at stake that's one thing but when it comes to others who are trusting you to keep them safe on your boat whether your recreational fishing or chartering in my opinion no risks should be taken period.

X2 on this. This was a tragedy in that a life was lost for no reason other than really really bad judgement and I agree with stupidity. Maybe at one time we've all done things that we shouldn't but no matter how you put it they were stupid except we lived for another day and hopefully learned. More than once I've seen boats that had no business being out as we were running back in. The sad thing is it will happen again just a matter of when. No fish or anything for that matter is worth it. Be safe today so you can fish tomorrow.
