My experience has taught me to never go back to Mercury outboards. I had a 50hp merc on my boat for 8years, had issues from day one and chased them till the day she puked. Repowered with a 90-hp 2stroke Yamaha and put 3 times as many hours over 18 years on that motor without a literal hiccup. I have also seen very good reliability out of bandrus1's ETEC. Yamaha or ETEC get my vote. Good luck with your choice!

Not saying ur lying but I believe you have a malfunctioning electronic. Take a vid for sure but the GPS is off or something, light or not my 20 more horse makes up for that plus i have only a single console (also very light aluminum boat), so something is funny. I have verified my speed with the motor speedometer (tube/water pressure), fish finder paddle wheel at the back of the boat and GPS and im whithin 2-3mph reading difference on all of them. Ive had my boat with a 50 horse merc on it before i repowered it in 01, it could only get 28-30 top end with the 50.

Better get ur speedometer fixed lol. No way that boat goes 48! I have a 16 foot sylvan with a 2001 90 horse yamaha with a 19 pitch prop that can max out at 44 with one person. I could see 35-38 max with a 70 horse of that age.

I am heading to Massena this coming weekend in pursuit of musky on the St Lawrence. I have a game plan worked out except for one very big detail. What speed would you typically troll at for fall Musky? Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

They have done this to the boat I work on in Oswego. Its a 84 9meter Trojan and it made a world of difference. Went from somewhat sloppy to solid at all speeds. Good luck.

AMS retriever pro. This reel is a couple of years old and only used a few times (was on a spare bow). It is missing the sliding ring and thumb screw that go into the spacer, but I rigged it with the nut/bolt you can see in the pictures and it worked fine for me. I have no more time for the sport so my gear is for sale. 30$ shipped or local pickup can be arranged in Pulaski or Binghamton areas for 25$.

I second the #5 mepps spinner baits, along the weed edges and over top of the weed beds in the bays has been very productive over the years. If you get a bunch of follows but no takers tip the spinner bait with a yellow or white mister twister, Yellow and pink mepps have been my go to colors, blue fox # 5 vibrex are a good option as well.
