  1. Thanks for the info Justin, as it is alet down to here they quit stocking otisco,  it is good to here they want many lakes with the success as otisco has had. I like the idea of fishing different lakes to sharpen our skills as walleye fishermen. Hope to see you on the water soon..

  2. Joe W, Been using synthetic oil in everything I own for about 12 years now. It will not hurt an engine to mix synthetic with conventional oil but naturally you wont get the full effect of synthetic until your running all synthetic. Better fuel mileage, better idling and you will find if you run injector system you won't use as much oil. Also use it in lower unit. Hope this helps

  3. Was up last weekend and actually caught more northerns at tail end of black river bay, did catch 4 in Chaumont bay and a few small mouths.   Caught 2 walleye on shoal along point of peninsula at mouth to black river bay. Caught all trolling.

  4. Kevin,  was planning on hitting the calf island shoals and galloo shoals this weekend for walleye have you heard of any good reports or maybe I should head to charity shoals instaed? Thanks for all the good reports!

  5. Was at Bass Pro in Auburn Today and Berkley had a tent set up selling the long awaited Flicker Minnow. They also have them in Bass Pro.If you bought $25 worth of merchandise you got a free tee shirt. So naturally I had to load up on the Flicker Minnows to try out. Any one else get a chance to use these yet?Gonna be headed to Lake Ontario next weekend so will give them a shot. will post results if they live up to all the hype.

  6. BrokeOff,I think the bottom picture of longline is your problem. It seems maybe your new weight you changed to is too heavy and making the diver stand vertical in water pulling line across edge of diver. Sure you have same size diver as others? I take it your using #1 size diver & is the spring the line goes through long enough to get correct bend to pull diver at correct angle. Hope this helps.

  7. Hookem & Cookem,  Did You Happen to notice all the perch fry in there stomach. We fished today also and our livewell was full of them being spit out. some of them only 2- 3 inches long.

  8. JimB,    This tactic of zig-zagging seems to shine on those neutral to negative fish mood days and also just checking lure speed to under standing what speed they want that day. I usually go 200'-300' with a turn. I also will put the motor in neutral and stall my lures which flutters the baits back into the fishes face which has put as many fish on as s-turns. I fish mainly for walleye but using these tactics on Ontario and other combination trout walleye waters have put many browns steelhead and some lakers in my boat.I have a small tiller boat so I have even done very ubrupt turns to stall inside boards and speed up outsides ones, may not be the thing to do with a big boat. Also to just crank your speed up well beyond your normal speed maybe 3 to 4 mph and then back to say 2mph can also work as well as s-turns. Hope this helps

  9. yes,  almost every morning between 5:30 & 6:00  this past week and the flocks that were out in the fields are starting to break up.Ever ytime a herd of deer were seen across the rd from me a flock of turkeys would be with them, but the last few days the deer are there almost every night but no turkeys.

  10. Phisherman585,   I run both 7.5' & 8' medium rods with Daiwa linecounter sg27lc sealine reels, the new accudepth linecounters are a little cheaper and I use these spooled with lead core. hope this helps.

  11. Phisherman585, Walleye Signature rods from Bass Pro, designed by Keith Kavajecz and Gary Parsons. Have been using these for 20 yrs now and have had great luck trolling for walleye and anything else, northerns, brown trout and landlocks.

  12. First off any stick bait should only need minimal weight to get down to 10 or 12' . Most stickbaits will run from  5 - 9' alone. try using inline weights from 1/8, 1/4 or 3/8ths just remember that speed will come into play once weight is used. I try targeting depths down to 15' with lures hand picked to cover depths you want to target with out weight. This is where precision trolling book comes in handy. Dead of Summer I run either 3 colors or 8 colors on my reels and cover most any depth I need with sometimes adding snap weight to backing line to get into 60 or 70 fow. Hope this helps

  13. Big Dave, Thanks for the info, I usually only run 3 colors except for fishing Erie so this would be a good deal for me. only live in Owego and work near cortland at times, so I'll have to check it out.

  14. Fishbowl836,    I have been using a Pro Mariner- prosport12 for 2 years now and have had no problems, works flawlessly.Usually takes about  4- 6 hrs to charge up both batteries after a days fishing. Nice thing is it puts out 12 amps  or if 1 battery is low and the other is 75% it will sense that and put more amps to the battery that needs the most so it would put 10 amps to 1 and 2 amps to other. Has 3 charge profiles for lead acid std.- Gel and Hp AGM. I paid $119.00 on sale at Gander Mtn. 2 years ago  Have mine mounted in the open never gets hot, I would not put it in a small confine space it does get warm, something large enough to dissapate the heat. I also leave mine plugged in basicaly all the time when not fishing, it shuts off when batteries reach fully charged and will maintain batteries while sitting at 13.4VDC

  15. DJ717,  I take it you fish for trout?  I fish nothing but walleye but still pull salmon and browns at times with this setup either at Ontario or Erie with slide divers. I use walleye signature series rods from Bass Pro in 8' length with Daiwa lc27 reel and  Power Pro 30# main line and a 10' hi seas flourocarbon leader. Run Spoons, crawler Harnesses and shallow stickbaits and all my divers are Black, seem to have best luck with this color, clear is my second choice. I fish Cayuga lake in april just waiting for walleye season to open and catch lots of salmon & Browns with same set ups as I use for  walleye.   Hope this helps
