  1. Looking for recommendations as to where to get I pilot trolling motor serviced… new unit on a recently purchased used boat. Worked fine first few trips then quit working, took the prop off to make sure it didn’t have line wrapped up in it. Located near Ithaca but willing to drive. Thanks!

I guess the truth hurts. huh? 50 yrs?  I doubt it since he kept everything. Keeping something legal is one thing but 10" bass are not legal and are slightly bigger than yearlings. Dont complain when there are no bass around with the added pressure from more people, kayaks, internet and high tech depthfinders.

What’s wrong with kayaks? I actually got rid of my boat and went full in with kayak fishing. You got a legit point? Or are you just a crabby patty??

  4. I fish out of a kayak as well... sold the boat for it actually. One way to get depth would be using a lead core setup... I use a 10 color lead core and can get down to 60-65 ft depending on how deep my crankbait dives. It’s great for spoons too, 50-55ft down with spoons. Best thing is no drag from lead core setup. Also you can check out using snap weights, and tadpole divers, in-line weights to achieve depth. Hope this helps. What kind of kayak do you have?

  5. Lakertaker,
You may want to consider mooching.  Essentially “power jigging” with the rod in the rod holder....would be very straight forward with a kayak.  Guys on the west coast pound salmon doing this...no one really does it here but I think it’d be very effective especially for staging fish.  Drop that 8oz toropedo down to the bottom with a flasher/meat rig behind it....start pedaling to pull the rig up off the bottom and get it rotating....then pause and let it spin back down.  If u have a fishfinder set up right you can prolly watch the whole thing go down and video game fish them.

I will look into that, thanks!

  6. I use the 8 oz torpedoes from the yak if I'm not going any deeper than 60-70 feet.

I did some testing with the Fish Hawk TD, and if I remember right with 15 lb braid it was like 280 feet of line to get 100 ft @ 1.5-2.0 MPH on the GPS.

I run a 2 lb or 4 llb ball off a Scotty Laketroller down rigger, and the drag is pretty manageable.

Thanks! Could you post some pics of the Scotty rigger on your kayak? Was that a hard install?
