Hi All,
I've been working off and on for the last several years, trying to figure out a lot of this fishery. Would anyone be willing to take me out, teach me the proper way to set up the rods, downriggers, the whole gamut? I'll gladly pay fuel, food, time, etc. Or recommend a charter captain that would be willing to do this? I'm tired of fumbling around. I have 8 year old twin boys that are really showing serious interest in it, so it's important to me to learn to do this properly for a change. Not asking for secret spots or any of that stuff. Just education. I learn much better from hands on, rather than watching Youtube. I don't even need to reel in a fish. Just set up, and tackle recommendations etc. I'm in Canandaigua, but traveling isn't a problem.
Thanks
John
I’ve been dodging kids events all yr but next weekend weather permitting I’m hoping to get out do some fishing. I’m always more than happy to have a guest. I primarily fish afternoons out of braddocks or bald Eagle.

Fished for a couple hrs with my daughter yesterday afternoon till the lightning . We had a decent screen 150-180 but we couldn’t get a bite. Slid out to 200-230 and ended 3/6 losing a slob at the boat. 300 copper took stealhead , riggers 75-95 , divers 210-250 took the king shots. Overcast I was running gold Martel, gold 42nd, and carbon 14
With kids graduations, senior ball, junior prom unfortunately I’ve rarely got out this yr.
Next week finalizes most my obligations and then we’ll be focusing offshore where I love to fish. Hope everyone enjoys Father’s Day

Took a nice long run with the boat to make sure she ran well and fished for an hr in front of braddocks. 80-120 we caught lakers and lost out first mature salmon at the back of the boat. This weekend we should be out of weather cooperates . Much needed day on the water

Fishhawk is a must but if your not getting bit at all then you really need to get with someone who’s consistently steady catching fish. Reading a good bend in a dipsy should at minimal keep you at a catchable speed. There’s so many little details to fine tune to get consistent and a solid fisherman can cut that learning curve in half. I got blessed with a lot of guys feeding me info/techniques and it builds the confidence . The ability to throw a great mixed spread , pick good starting points, etc all come with experience. Just keep grinding away

What kind of monster sets a dipsy out 169 when they could set it at 170

This day the cold water was inside . I fished mostly 130-170 during the day and before sunset slid into 100-130. My lures were parked 45-50 degree water midday and before sunset 50-60degree water.
When we set up wind was out of the East and smaller (delicate) setups worked best. The winds tuned to the west and the FF and mag spoons kicked in

Awesome. They're some really big fish. It looked like the kids could barely hold them. Lol

If you don’t have down temp. First light I’d run 10color, 300 copper, riggers 50-80down to start. Today midday 400 copper , riggers70-100, divers 240-300 , right before dark my bites all moved up. Screen was loaded though, fish the marks

Nice job Jeremy,
What size spoons do most run, regular or mags?
This time of year I start with mags in deep setups and standard/super slims for sliders. However if your getting a lot of looking and no takers I size down .
On a tough East wind bite I usually always run standards to start with .

Had a friend daughter join us tonight. Game plan was look for lakers for kids just in case but the screen was just so good. Fished 4-dark putting 4 16-20lb and 2 fish pushing 24lbs in the boat and bunch of smaller ones. From 4-7 our best depth was 160-170 , riggers 80-100, divers 250-300, and 400 copper . Mostly a FF bite. Closer to dark we slid in 120-140 all same depths. Carbon 14 took over as the night set in and the bite was steady and constant. We lost a couple tanks that just came unbuttoned . Overall a beautiful calm night and some great fish to be had.

Solid job my friend. Wish I could have been there but work was way more fun..... Oh wait, no, it wasn't.
You missed a great bite. Nice steady action all morning. I think first week of August is the next Bald Eagle tourney.

So you just decided to fish for a couple of hours to put some fish on the board.....Lol.
Exactly[emoji23], Brian has a pretty time tested and true pattern of putting the hammer down on big lakers

I appreciate it. I’ve had many opportunities to take take guys out from LOU and had a great time with this community. Like John I started for the “kids” or so I told my wife to justify the expense [emoji23]. Iv had a lot of local Captains willing to let me tangle a line or two to learn, best way is hands on
