Decided to beat the wave forecast and headed out at sunrise. Decided to head offshore while the lake was calm and just let the waves push us in. Set up west of the nose at 31 line and it was pretty bleak. Went an hr and half before the first small steelhead hit a cheater on a 70 rigger. From there we maintained a south troll all the way in to 90fow picking away at steelhead and 2 yr olds. Mix of FF off riggers and dipsy, J plug in the 400 copper , and cheaters all took something. We never really dialed anything in . Bait was sporadic and marks far and few between. Our last hr on 140-100 had best screen but we definitely weren’t on the bite. Lake kicked right up as forecasted , we fished till noon going 6/14. A lot of dipsy shots that came on buttoned. No matures landed or ever on the line.
Probably won’t t get out till next weekend and at this point I’ll be launching out of the river for stagers

Sounds like a nice outing. Offshore i fish pods of fish rather than depth. East or West doesn’t usually matter more than finding, dialing them in, and circling them. Remember everyday that goes by more matures move inside. So past three weeks has ben great offshore but it will slow down on a dime (for matures). I don’t think we need to be playing bumper cars inside yet but their moving in pretty quickly . So my spread offshore now hopes for some mature kings and it also is really set up for steelhead. Just like spring I run light leaders, boards with crankbaits, small spoons etc. it’s also nice to go side by side with other boats offshore to cover lots of ground out there. Personally i just love offshore. Very rare I fish with anyone 5 miles in any direction lol. Hopefully Saturday stays fish able. If so I’ll probably do in tight for couple hrs then run Offshore to finish the day.

Given your dipsy were out 265 in that depth those had to be kings tearing up your gear. J plugs run like a spoon, then you have Flashers with Flys. If your local maybe I could get you out if your available. We still got a couple weeks to go

4 dipsy with only spoons and getting bit is a success. Stinks to lose good fish. Looks like a typical staging king screen or Lakers (do you know temp on bottom?). Remember as their staging they cut way back on feeding. Basically your trying to get an aggressive reaction out of them. This is why J plugs, and FF are so good. As for the spoon getting destroyed, drags way too tight [emoji6]. A staging hardened jawed king hitting a stinger with a tight drag will give you those results 99% of the time. Staging kings are the most frustrating to get to bite and with limited options that’s extra tricky. Riggers also help a lot because you can better dial in exact depth to really annoy them. I’ll run a rigger with FF right in their face and stage the second rigger 10/15 feet above that with a longer lead. A lot of trial and error .

I’d go to 250fow , south troll , watching screen, and work in . Then I’d give myself a good 2hrs fishing under 120fow before sunset. Moonshine spoons, J Plugs ,FF , Meat big paddles, anything to get an angry one to go.

When do you think these kings are going to be at the mouth of the Genesee ?
Or around that area..
Thx

They are there now but you’ll get them offshore mixed in now also. I rarely target staging kings unless bored and solo. Targeting staging kings can be brutally grinding. This Saturday looks rough so I’ll probably shoot offshore in afternoon, then 2 hrs before dark shoot in and try for stagers a bit.

That’s roughly as shallow and as deep as I fish offshore. For me in a small boat wind usually decides where I start. I prefer the calmest troll to put down a consistant spread. Hard North wind I run deep and troll south, and visa versa. It can feel pretty vast but once you start marking and circling areas there’s no better place to be .

If you see the cross hairs of the cursor that is dead north of the Nose. So I’m usually a hair East, but it doesn’t matter out there. Find pods and work them over.

I'm planning to fish out of Bald Eagle. When you say you're fishing in 500-570 depth, what exactly are you talking about?
how far off-shore are you fishing?
Thanks for any tips!
Roughly 10-13 miles out. That’s the depth of water I fish over. In this area it’s 30-31 line

Was a great day out there. Another fantastic trip with Capt Jeremy.
My favorite line of the day....
Jeremy- "my rigger ! My rigger!"
I look over (from my side of the boat) and the rod is bouncing
Jeremy "grab it !"
Me- confused
Jeremy- " I just poured a fresh cup of coffee
Jeremy's confidence that we would pull a double with the time spent between two kids pulling in a 10 color was spot on.
That's how good the day was... 4 on board and we all had plenty of reel time. Making memories that will last forever. And these kids think we are just fishing...
If I don’t jump either the coffee is freshly poured or it didn’t look big lol

Is that a drain under the tail ? I have a fishmaster and I need to add something as water holds there. Did you add that or was it stock ? I have a 2011

That’s a floor drain, it came stock. Mines a 2017
