  1. That's what I would have thought that the bait would have been deep. While I was out yesterday I would wonder from 80 out to 300 + and then back in while out deep I was marking fish at 220+ ft of water. More info think I marked alot of fish from 180 to 250. Don't know what that would have been but way to deep for me to try to chase.

  2. Had a great day today. Launched out of Myers and went straight across from launch and set up on a North troll. Riggers stets at 80 and 60 with sliders on both. Dipsy set back 240 and 180 both on 2. First fish came just beyond the falls on a purple atomic fly with a problem troll flasher. Came off the 240 dipsy. Landed a nice healthy laker. Not long after came anouther laker on a blue silver spindoctor with a green and silver atomic fly. Kept a.north troll with a pretty steady catch of Lakers most in the 5 to 7 lb range. Most productive water was.the 80 to 100 ft of water. Switched riggers over to flasher fly combos with cheaters later in the day with no responce. Went 6 for 10 today. And only caught 1 small salmon. Lakers were very active on the west side. Spent some time on the east side near the plant fishing our way backed to the boat launch with no results. Best water today was west side north of the boy scout camp. Good to catch fish with some decent size. The dipsy was hot today and might as well left riggers at home. Tried all different leads from the ball tried numerous different spoons with every color imaginable. Any way thanks.for everyone's advise had a great day. Was planning on going south today but last minute went North and glad I did. Good luck everyone and be safe.

  3. Keeping the line tight for that last 20 feet can be tough especially on the dipsy rods when the dipsy pops out of the water. May have had something to do with the loss of fish. The hole in the fishes moth becomes big and with just a little bit of slack with the smaller fish gravity takes over and the hook comes out. I also fish with single hooks on all my spoons and that is what I always figured what happened. Especially with the wide gap hooks that you are useing. I switched to singles for the same reasons as you and also my catch rates seemed to improve when I did make it to lake ontario but some times the ease of release works to well🤔 anyway thanks for report. Don't hesitate to introduce your self if you see me at the launch thompson boat called the loon feather.

  4. Wow surprising what a week can make. I fished last Monday and had similar results as you guys had boated only 2 fish for a 8 hrs grind but other people had fish all day in similar places to me. Thought it was just my day to be off for what ever reason. Thanks for the reports. Anyone been going south towards ithaca I out of habit allways go north. Towards more familiar to me water. Thanks again.

  5. I have 2 manual scotty down riggers. The other day while letting the cable down 1 of the line counters detonated. The inner part of the riggers seems to be fine but the line counter won't work. I looked up on line and they sell the whole mechanism Wich I don't think I need. For the electric down riggers they sell just the line counter it's self Wich is what I need. Is there a difference. The pictures look the same but pictures and reality are often times different. Thanks for any. Help.

  6. I have run divers and riggers for along time and have noticed my divers out fish the riggers hands down in all waters from the lake ontario to the finger lakes. I have run rigger lines farther back from the ball like you were mentioning wand have not noticed a difference with catch rates. If I had only to chose between divers and down riggers I would chose the diver every time. Just my opinion. I don't like the resistance when reeling in a fish but fish numbers would make me pick divers.

  7. Hey thanks vogael. This is my 1 st trip this year that I didn't mark a ton of fish and my lowest catch rate this year to. I figured that it had some thing to do with boat traffic starring everything up. I have to imagine that it would maybe not though. Most of the .time I troll north out of Myers. Don't usally head south towards ithaca. I used to spend my summers with my grand father trolling out of kidders so I know the north water better. He used to rent a place from a guy named Bunny out be hind Omallys. We had a permanent camper up in that camp ground that's there now. One of the first ones back in the 80s.

  8. I launched from Myers trolled up past The plant. Then motored north to Sheldrake and trolled back to myers on the west side. Maybe just wasn't my day for fishing. But had a good day anyway. Ran 2 divers and 2 down riggers at various depth with multiple lure changes just couldn't get anything to work. Didn't get skunked so all and all a good day.

  9. Fished today from 0830 to 1630 and had 2 fish to show for it. Fished. All water depths and used all colors and just could not get anything to work for us. Most bait was marked in 60 to 80 foot of water but marked very few fish with the bait. Alot of boat traffic today Wich was expected maybe had something to do with the dismal results. Had a hand full of short strikes but like said before only got 2 in the boat. Hey a tough day on the lake is better than a easy day at work. Best baits to day were black and white spoons with purple tape. Good luck out there. Boat ran rough this morning but smoothed out later in the day.
