  1. I put a Garmin Echomap Plus 94 on my Shamrock with a GT-51M transom mount 'ducer. Everyone says transom mounts don't read well on inboard boats. On plane there is some interference, but I can still see fish, bait and bottom. At trolling speed it looks like I am in demo mode it is so clear. I could not be happier with this unit. I love the hybrid touch/programmable soft button option on this unit. The touch option is lockable with a push of a button so clients don't mess up my settings, etc. Very intuitive interface and quick to move about the settings.

  2. IO? Does the engine rev up, but won't go anywhere? If so, a little more complicated. Sounds like your cable end at the carb is loose, off or broke. One cable shifts her into gear, another advances the throttle in gear. Take a look at the carb or throttle body to see where the cable terminates. It may be obvious. If not, maybe the same is true at the controller end. You can pull it off to look and see, but don't take it apart unless you are confident in putting it back together. They are full of springs and stuff that must go back together correctly. The problem may be obvious in the back of the controller.

  3. My Elite 7 Chirp used to pull this same crap. It's only purpose is my chart now. My Lowrance Ice pack does the same thing when hole hopping. I just think their 'ducers are just too finicky. I think it has somehing to do with bubbles, turbulence, speed and how the machine interprets what the 'ducer is sending to it. Much the same way it wouldn't read shallow water. Just a PITA So I went to Garmin. Much better.

  4. A couple things to consider with braid for dipsies:
    1. Fleas usually stick to the braid worse, but then again they stick to wire and mono too.
    2. The thicker the line, the better. Even though a lighter braid will hold the pull of a mag dipsy just fine, a heavier, say 65# braid is thicker and maybe the fleas won't adhere as badly.

I am using 65# PowerPro and have really good luck with it as far as fleas. They are there, but manageable.

  5. I have only been out opening day.  Worked both shores of BRB.  Pillar side was a parking lot. Sacketts side from Mill Creek to buoys produced a lot of bites but had trouble keeping them buttoned up so can't say what they in fact were.   Managed two.  A friend went out next day, same spot and never tipped a rod.  I think in general it was spotty in the bays.  A few here and there.  The guys that always, get 'em, got a few.  Others really struggled.  VERY cold water except for mouth of BR.

  6. Yes, a 110V receptacle will work just fine. Two things to remember: make sure you have a fuse or breaker close to your power source with wire heavy enough to withstand the draw you'll have on it, and those big jons will run normal or in reverse. Meaning, if you plug in upside down, up on the switch will be down on the rigger. Simply flip the plug over and they will be right.
