  1. Thanks chaschut, good advice for finding out how much it could be off. And I know that even when full they're close, not necessarily spot on, more for repetition.

Let's just say that the crewman may or may not have been my brother... there was no swift jab to the throat... and I'll be seeing how far off that dipsy set up is before the season! Lol!

And that's a great trick G-Daddy! Thanks! I will totally try it. Do you think it'll work with wire?

  2. So I know that a line counter is most accurate when the spool is full. Let me give you a hypothetical situation...

Situation: As I'm setting lines, a crew member decides to set a dipsy on the opposite side, shuts the clicker off, opens the bail, and the dipsy splashes down, the spool over rotates and bird nest! After a quick punch in the throat for shutting the clicker off (as was told to me by a faithful member here, if anyone ever shuts a clicker off), I get to work untangling, cutting, and reattaching terminal tackle. The rod is ready to fish again, but I lost a decent amount of line and the spool isn't full.

Question: Where is the error on the counter? I'm thinking if there is less line, the wraps are tighter and the counter will run faster and read more feet out than are actual line out. So I would want to set farther on the counter. Anybody agree? Disagree? Thoughts?

  3. Welcome! There is some much great info here! I grew up fishing for perch and smallies on Lake O. I have in the past few years transitioned into walleye, trout and salmon. I guys and gals here are great, any question for anywhere will get you good advice.

Happy you're a part of it!

  4. I posted LOU stickers for sale and the post is now gone or restricted.

I PMed Chad for permission to make some lou stickers and sell them to make my costs and time back. He granted me permission, I made them, then posted it and it was shortly taken down. I have no problem with the admin or moderators of this site checking through things and making sure all is good, but I got no notification that it was restricted or taken down, or was shot a question about it. At this point, with $ out, I'd just like to know.

Sorry for the rant. I love and appreciate the value of this site.

  6. When I get to my boards upstate, I'll post some pics with directions for rigging the tattle flag for cheap.

I ran mine out of the box for a couple years... Just harder to see a light strike or small fish on em. If it's big, you'll be able to tell. Happened to see a smallmouth jump 100' behind the board once! It was a little rough, so hard to tell.

  7. Don't think I would sell the boat. There just isnt anything else in that size range comparable to what the boat offers. Tracker really nailed this boat design for a trolling fisherman and the type of gear required for that type of fishing. For example, Lund just doesn't get it... I don't use 6'6'' poles thus all their rod lockers are useless. Nor do I want a tiny livewell that can't handle 1 King, let alone a limit of walleye. Made for a bass fisherman (no offense)... just haven't found a boat comparable in capability and the capability may not be apparent to most at first glance. I'm very particular and many of the boats out there are not ideally designed to support the fishing I do. Tough to find the right fit and everyone is different and looks for the right setup to suit them. I also like the flexibility of having a larger glass boat for rougher water or more people going out. If I were to choose, I would take the Tracker out every day. It's a fishing machine.

I have to back Fleet up on this one... Spent time in a Lund of the same size and the amount of storage, room, and well of this Tracker far exceed the Lund. I've fished on the Reel Happy and as stated... it's a machine... helps when you set it up like Fleet, but it's seriously no joke.

Hoping for the new hull for you. Take it easy and Happy New Year to ya.

  8. I've been in the site for a while now, time to introduce...

I've spent every summer of my life on Lake Ontario (Sackets Harbor) and am bringing my children there. My grandfather took me fishing for smallies and perch since I can remember. He took me out in a 14' 1966 deep-v starcraft my family calls the green boat. He left her to me and she is still seaworthy!

My fishing progressed from bass and perch to pike, and now walleye, browns, salmon, and lakers. New to that game, but have put in some time, some research (so much here) and of course $$$. Got myself a 1998 Trophy 1802 WA to get out farther and get through my learning curve!

This site is great, full of info, and most importantly awesome guys and gals!

  9. I just checked the link above and the sound isn't coming through on my phone... I tried cutting and pasting into Safari and it couldn't find the server. Anyway, just search "diy tattle flag planer board" and it sound come up. It's 2:04 long and by Jordan Porritt Fishing.

  10. I have the same inline boards. I have a pair for port and starboard. I gathered materials for the tattle flag system at lowes for $5ish and rigged all four. There's a YouTube video about it. No need to spend $25 a piece for off shore's system.
