Agreed. You could walk on the jetty and look, it’s not far a walk. Know where the spit bar is... If it looks too sketchy, move on to Henderson, i mean if you’re passing it. The thing I like about westcott’s is you’re right into the bay quick and can put the throttle down. Anyway, I’ll try to check it Mem weekend.

Also, I swung by westcotts early May... floating dock was in (pic from May 1). Launch looked good. Didn’t use it though. Went out of Sackets, pulled the boat around the corner of the cement slabs to get in easier. Lol!

Went out for eyes today in the BRB. We went 2 for 3. Lost a monster. At one point while at the helm, I heard the pee can hit the deck and “fish on!” Ended up landing a D.O. fish! [emoji23] He did manage to tuck it while fighting the fish, so does it qualify? Not sure it matters! 🤣 Great to be out!

Shakedown out of Stony creek Friday evening. It’s definitely shallow as mentioned. I have a trophy 1802. Buoys are in, but a couple knocked over/missing. I followed the tracks on my gps from previous trips and was fine.
Got lines in shortly out into the lake and headed south. Picked up a laker first, then an eye, then a brown. Also out Saturday 9:30ish-4:30ish. A big brown and 2 Lakers.

If you read previous threads, you’ll find a lot of members use 30lbs mono on there rigger rods for salmon. It helps to keep the fleas off when they get bad. Use a fluoro leader off the mainline. No need to spool fluoro on the entire reel (although it’ll work, it’s just more expensive). I use 17-20lbs fluoro for leaders for salmon. So to answer your initial question, you should be fine. You could always tie on a lighter leader if the fish get finicky.

Look through the new regs... https://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/fish_marine_pdf/fishguide21.pdf

Previous regs allowed for out of season c and r for bass almost statewide, except for Jefferson county (where my place is). Looks like they locked up some more counties and places. Go to your region and see if there are any special regs. If not, then state regs would apply.

Not to burn spots, but does anyone want to point me in likely directions for Pike in the BRB or Henderson area?

 

I haven’t targeted Pike in quite some time. We used to fish in May in Henderson Bay for Pike (Sackets side near Horse island and Bolton’s). But they would more out shortly after Looking for more likely places near by and for more of the fishing season.

When I run sacs, I just barely hook a couple strands or mesh and have the whole hook exposed. The fish don’t mind one bit.

I use the same set up, a little shorter on the leader (around 6’) so someone else doesn’t take the swivel into the guides.

Went out of Stony this evening. Dropped lines at 5, pulled em at 8. Found good temp and marks... only took a white fish and a dragged a small laker for a little bit. Best screens over 125 fow give or take. Getting a little frustrating.

Do you have an e z steer on your kicker?  I am tempted to go solo but think I could only do it if I rigged something up to be able to steer from the helm

Yes it’s and e z steer system. I got it used on here. I believe it was actually for an I/O to kicker, but made it work. Definitely helps.

Was out yesterday in the trench. First solo trip. Dropped riggers at 7, pulled lines at 10. Had 47 degrees down 90ish. The were marks on the screen. Counted 22 boats at one point. Didn’t see any nets move, and only had a small brown when I went in shallow for some relief from the winds. No skunk! I’ll take it for my first solo trip. I was happy to get my gear in an manage to steer!

Rough out today. Took a while to get out of stony to outer trench. Picked up a king on 450 copper. And dragged a tiny laker on meat on a rigger when we pulled lines. Didn’t fish long. Temp was 48 down 100 fished over 130-150.

I use 13 lbs torpedo weights and have manual riggers. Same situation as above. Less blow back. Around 10 ft at 100 feet out. Also use a x4d.

Had 51 degrees down 110 over 140 (that was around 9 this a.m.). Didn’t put the probe rigger down any further.

Just a lousy white fish today. 5 releases with nothing home.
