  1. I'm looking to do a guided ice fishing trip. Willing to drive anywhere on the southern shore of Ontario, East shore of Erie, or any of the fingerlakes. Are there any guides in this area? Safe ice anywhere? Does anyone have a service they'd recommend?
  2. yup. Now that the cat is out of the bag I hope I don't see any of you guys at my secret spots pulling out all the fish!
  3. They put one of those launches at the black creek launch on the genesee river last year. I've seen disabled people using it a few times, and I rarely fish there. Not sure how they get the boat back on the vehicle.
  4. I tend to fish tough to access waters so I'll share my secret weapon with the masses. Gold and black shad colored rc2 crankbaits. Good luck finding any locally, I'm pretty sure I bought all of them. Troll along the weed edge. the quieter and smaller the boat the better. Don't know what it is but I can't keep them off the things. They're not even meant for pike, but they have been my biggest producer both trolling and casting by a long shot. When trolling I run straight 20 or 30 braid, they don't seem to mind and i don't seem to lose lures. Just make sure you check for nicks and retie regularly. You will also pick up bass, walleye, and monster sized panfish if you run them long enough. I've been dragging my electric canoe into some shore launch only water and crushing em with those things the last few weeks. Nothing like getting dragged around by a beaster pike. I only keep one line in the water per person now, so you don't have more fish on than people to reel. If the driver gets a hit, tip the motor up first thing in case they drag you into the rocks/weeds. If you're looking for some action packed fishing to do with the kids, this is my go-to. Just make sure you put floats on your rods and adjust the drag properly for some big gators. I don't kayak fish, but i would imagine it would work even better.
  5. Stolen from google: Shadrack’s Dip Shad Catfish Bait Recipe One use for the left over shad when you got too many at the end of a fishing trip. Place about 20 small threadfin shad in a blender Add 1/2 Cup of cornmeal Add 1 tablespoon each of garlic powder and sugar. Blend well and place this mixture in a jar and shake twice daily for a week and its ready. Use with dip worms or sponges. I'm sure you could adapt this. not sure that adding oil will make the paste texture that you're asking about. If you wanted to make a spray/liquid scent like you get at the store you could always concentrate the ground fish with an isopropyl extraction, and then dilute in an oil. Probably easier to store and apply that way.
  6. Sounds like you had a blast. Too bad the weather is going to be so nasty the next week or so.
  7. Make sure he files a police report and keeps an eye on craigslist for surrounding areas. They wont actively look for it, but if you file the report it will make recovery easier once you find it yourself. I put a security camera in my driveway for this reason, $200-300 you can get an internet connected night vision system that has red led's on the camera and sends you a snapshot of motion detection. No monthly fees. Very cheap insurance. My car got broken into twice in a month, put up the cameras and nothing sense. Nobody would bother with your boat if you have cameras and the guy next door doesn't.
  8. They were getting dink perch off the pier all weekend, no big ones yet. Tons of mud puppies, dink perch, bluegill and a few carp spotted on the north end throughout the night, but really wouldn't recommend fishing it at this point. Don't know about anything much past seagull island at the north end, could be better further south.
  9. If you want to get something done there are a handful of political consultants in CNY that could make a phone call and shift policy, if you can pay the bill. All politics aside Coumo heavily advertises how much he wants to make fishing in upstate NY a tourist attraction, so now wouldn't be the worst time to get a petition going and raise some funds to get something done that way. Lets be honest, this would be low on the docket for any and every politician and bureaucrat with the ability to get it done otherwise. Their base is not heavily impacted by potential musky fishermen. Unfortunately, that is probably what it is going to take if we want to see a major change. I pike fish multiple times a week during the summer and would love the chance to diversify a little, outside of the couple musky lakes/rivers that are common. Sadly, I don't see that happening in the general area anytime soon unless somebody has some pull they are willing to flex, or some major cash to throw down. Non-profit (tax exempt) status in NY isn't cheap, an association I work with recently went through that and it would have cost thousands in our case, so I would keep that in mind going forward. Luckily it was donated by a law firm that was a member of the association. Might be a good idea to go through another organization for that reason alone if funds are a concern. Or get a lawyer on board who's willing to work pro-bono. Hopefully one of you guys is a bar member with some spare time so that is a moot point. Best of luck on this thing, I hope it is a success and I'm willing to help out where necessary. I look forward to learning about the objectives and plan of action from this organization. I'm in Rochester but I fish the finger lakes and Syracuse area on a regular basis.
  10. try Jackson Saw on Brighton Henrietta TL Rd.
  11. Hi everyone, I stumbled across this place while looking for tips on some of the tributaries in Monroe County, and figured I'd sign up and see what it is all about. For the first time in a few years I've been going out quite regularly this spring, with limited luck, so I'm hoping to pick up some new tips and tricks. I've been doing mostly bank fishing, before and after work, however I've been looking into getting a small boat lately to give me more access. So far some minor luck with the Brown Trout and Ranbows, but nothing else has been taking so if anyone has any tips, tricks, or advice, I'm all ears. Especially in the Rivers/Creeks/Streams in Southern Monroe County, as that is where i have been spending most my time.
