resurrecting this discussion as I was just about to paint my torpedoes (from Troutman87) chrome. I know the downrigger ball can be considered a 'secondary' attractor. I guess I'm thinking of those early morning bites when running F/F close to the ball. Later in the day I'll be running longer leads, stealth rigs below the weight, etc. I've been reading a lot of books, and there's been some references to some color on downrigger weights, but not a lot. I was thinking mine would be a poor man's shark, basically. Thoughts?
What I have done with my black weights was put a piece of fish scale tape on the back fin of weights. More than once have I had fish strike the tail of those weights so I just keep going with it. Not sure if it was attracted to it but it’s happened multiple times.

Sea-IV: Could you provide a description on the carbon spoons. Are they the carbon 14 with the glow back and black front with glow dot? Also seen a reference to a carbon spoon with an orange ladder back, Glad you guys are doing well. Hope to get there next week if the governor doesn't ban travelers from Ohio.Thanks.

when you say leader is that from flasher to fly or ball to flasher ! i have been told from flasher to fly to keep it from 20" to the most 30" . do you guys use anything with your spoons like dodgers ??
Ok from the rigger ball back I like to keep my leads short, no more than 20’ but as little as 5’ back from ball. Now for flasher fly leads it depends on what they want, sometimes I run the fly 24” back from flasher others I run 16” but rule of thumb for me is twice the length of the flasher, so an 8” flasher I have a 16” lead to my fly and so on

Yes it’s the carbon 14 spoon by moonshine or Dreamweaver I speak of

Any hot colors for spoons or f/f rigs ?? How far off the ball do you guys usually go with f/f and spoons ? Same with dipsy’s how much of a leader ??
Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario UnitedAnything with Green Dots has been killing it, carbons early and then green dots and uv as sun gets higher. We have been keeping leads short off riggers like less than 15’, f/f has been a 3-6’ leader

Sounds like you have a plan all setup only thing I would change is starts point, I would setup in 60 and troll north til you get but which could be between 60-100fow, we played 105 all day Saturday and had a pretty steady bite from the to the nose

Can check with Rigged or Nick Rusin to see if he has any available.

www.airmar.com under technical then cross reference section there is a spread sheet with one of the headings -connector- under that you will see the numbers of pins . From what I can tell the 5 is for Garmin/Lowrance and Simrad. If it was me and I wanted to buy it I would call Airmar up with my make of FF and the model of the ducer B60 -20 MM .They should be able to tell you if they offer adaptors and or splicing kits for what you might need.,The 20 reps the deadrise # of the hull you are putting it in , good for something like 10 to 20 * , [which is a common deadrise for most boats, [double check that figure.] Would not work on a flat bottom boat very well.
Just to add to your description this is a Mix and Match thru hull ad there are several adapter cables made to fit many units. I currently have the same one in my Tiara and found almost every adapter available on google by looking up the MIx/Match Airmar Cables
