  1. Last spring I was in a walleye tournament and on day 4 it was foggy, so I decided to trailer to Oswego to give it a try, I had 12 -7' rods with okuma Cold water 20 line counters reels set up for walleye, 12lb big game and 10lb fluorocarbon leaders, we ran 4 inline boards per side and two riggers with spoons, which I used the walleye rods cause that's all I had. A 15lb King smashed a moonshine green Jean super glow and took off like a rocket. We had trouble controlling him, were very lucky to clear board lines as he was running hard port side. When we finally got him close he did get into inside board line. We managed to land him, and I'll admit it was a blast landing him on 10lb, but I would agree, there is a great chance of loosing tackle. This isn't like stream fishing, they have no boundaries, and I forgot to add, the salmon almost spoiled us twice. I plan on doing some early spring salmon, I will be running my normal rigger rods with 20lb flea flicker and a 20lb flurocarbon leader.

Also if there were other boats anywhere near us the salmon would have been in all their gear too.

Just my opinion, hope it helps

  2. Art,

I see its sold, Just curious around about what it sold for, I have a 2011 Chevy extended cab with 38,000 miles, almost identical options with dual exhaust, I'm considering selling it outright instead of trading, I put 4 new BF Goodrich ALL Terrain tires on it last fall also.

PM me if you get a chance, I know the trade value they offered, it's good but the new ones are crazy priced, lol

  3. The best advice can give you is as follows...

    1) Unless your wife fishes get a divorce now because you dont want to waste any time during the king run in a lawyers office

    2) Be prepared to spend sleepless nights dreaming and reliving the first wire/dipsy strike

    3) Open the wallet because your gonna buy about 300 spoons, flashers and flies when you realistically need about 20

    4) Get your son a tutor now because he will spend a lot of time in class day dreaming

    5) Make sure your paypal account is linked with your ebay account so purchasing the spoons is easier

    6) Next winter when the lake is dead you can come here for a withdrawals support group

  4. I had my dipsy fire this past Sunday, it was on a #2 setting with a Spin Doctor/atomic 225' of line out in 140' of water and I got a screamer like I only witnessed once before, and I'm no rooky, I've caught my share of kings over the past 20 years. It screamed out to 785' of line at it seamed like 20 mph. Drag was set perfectly, and this fish broke off my wire about 25' up from the diver. About $40 in tackle lost,

1 hour later I had a king hit my outside rigger set at 95' and this fish tore out to 535 feet. I was dumbfounded....we are very proud of a high percentage of hooked kings to boating kings and we went 2 for 5 on kings that morning. I've had many screamers over the years, and caught many huge kings but never had them just pull drag that fast with no let ups.

Anyone else have this happen this year?

  5. Eyes are here, should be good providing the weather cooperates, I went this past Sunday in a monsoon, was tough controlling boat, we caught a mix of walleyes, smallmouths and pike, quit at 10:00.....couldn't take it anymore and were frozen, lol.....all the usual walleye hotspots should have fish, NOAH is forcasting a northeast wind that I usually don't like, but that could change. Good luck, hope the little guy has a great time, there is no better feeling than sharing your favorite passion with your children!!

  6. When I run for salmon I run 20lb flea flicker or 30lb trilene on all flasher fly rods, spoons are the same with 20lb fluorocarbon leader. All my wire dipsy rods have 30lb if flasher fly and 20lb with spoon. I tryed running 20lb fluorocarbon on my wire dipsy rods and big kings were breaking off on the strike

  7. During the Henderson spring classic derby we decided to run to Oswego for a fun day. I only had my walleye rods with me, with 12lb trilene and 10lb seagar fluorocarbon leaders. I set a rigger with a moonshine spoon and an 18lb king smoked it. We had a nice battle on 10lb line but landed it.
