This post is a bit dated - but I was also thinking of running a mag size 3 dipsy on the 1.5 setting, and a regular size 1 Dipsy on the outside, high rod setting 3. Hopefully that makes it a little easier to avoid tangles too
to compliment riggers with free sliders for a 6 rod, 8 lure spread.

Another guy who’s #’s must always end in a 7! We were out Friday night, eerily similar report. 87 & 77 riggers over 150-250 took a couple smaller kings on mag spoons. Got 1 that was 24lb on a 177 Dipsy down the chute, setting 0 on a carbon 14 Spin Doctor with Green/Black Fly over 180.

Haha, thanks Bob - you’re right!

Thanks - It's definitely a beauty! It needs the right boat though - Someone with a classic or custom built wood boat - In order to move it I might need a different audience.

Hi Guys,
Up for sale in Canandaigua is a 1957 - 35 HP Evinrude Bigtwin outboard in excellent condition. This is the coolest looking motor I've ever seen - I'm a wooden boat guy, and loved the way this looked on one of boats. It's just not the perfect fit for the boat.
Several years ago this motor was restored to museum like quality as shown in the picture.
This motor runs strong and comes with the throttle plate and cables for a center console boat.
Electric start.
Also comes with a gas tank and fuel connector for this motor.$1,500O OBO. There is probably some wiggle room on the price. Please call Kevin at (315)406-1813 or DM me with any questions.

Hi Guys,
I have custom built wooden fishing boat up for sale in Canandaigua, NY. Very stable wide design. Easy to drive and fun to fish! This boat has served me well over the last 4 seasons. I bought it as a shell and built out the whole interior myself. I've since collected 2 more wooden boats and just don't have time for 3 as you might imagine.
This boat has fished Canandaigua, Skaneateles, Hemlock, Canadice, Conesus, and Honeoye Lakes.
14 feet in length with a 4 HP two stroke Yamaha outboard motor that runs very smooth and trolls well. Top speed is about 7 mph, so not a real burner!
I'm including a 2015 Lowrance Elite 4 sonar with Down Imaging & GPS which is already mounted on board as well as 2 Scotty rod holders.
Trailer and cover are included. Please call Kevin at (315) 406-1813 or DM me with any questions. Thank you.- 1

It was actually this past weekend - had a great time. Rented a house with a bunch of buddies about 1 mile south of the Conkingville Dam - was a little worried about the ice that far North but it ended up being a solid 20" everywhere I drilled. Fished 2 days with 20 tip-ups and only managed 1 fish. But it was an awesome one. 44.75" with a 22.25" girth. A buddy of mine from the trip is having it mounted. It was our 1st trip to GSL and have never caught anything like that thru the ice. Need to work on landing these fish so they can be safely released in the future, but definitely a great memory from the trip..

Very cool video! Looked like an incredible day. I am actually headed up to Sacandaga next weekend. I rented a place on the water about 1.5 miles southwest of the Conklingville Dam. Would you happen to know if the ice is ever safe up that way or does everyone generally stay around Northville and Broadalin?

Great Brown!
Thanks! The Rainbow was a real nice fish too - unfortunately Kevin has massive hands so the fish looks small, haha

Thanks! It was a great day. I wish today wasn't so windy...

Well, its quite a bit late, but I thought my fellow fisherman might enjoy a quick read about some winter trolling -
On Super Bowl Sunday (2/7), my buddy Kevin and I spotted a prime day in the forecast, cleared the calendars, and found ourselves along the shoreline of Hemlock Lake around 7:30 a.m. The day called for plenty of sunshine and a high of 45 degrees later in the afternoon - a mid-winter gift for sure!
For this outing we decided to keep it simple and start with proven colors like Oranges, Greens, and Pinks. The Riggers were set at 25 and 30 feet respectively with two different spoon sizes - standard and super slim. We also ran two (2) planer boards per side rounding out a six (6) rod spread. The outside boards would carry smaller Cleos, and the inside boards would drag some big, K15 Kwik-Fish.
No matter how many times I fish Hemlock I'm always impressed with how scenic and pristine the area is. For the better part of the morning I found myself staring off in the distance as we trolled along, really enjoying the moment and patiently waiting for both a strike and for the sun rise over the steep, tree lined horizon.
It was a pretty slow morning, but sometime around 9:30 a.m. and the action picked up, heading south over 40' of water along the east side. I first noticed a big rod bend, followed by our inside board moving in the opposite direction. Fish on! Kevin grabbed the rod and began reeling it in only to see a big splash at the surface behind our skiff boat. This was a large fish! After a tough battle, a beautiful Brown had found the net! This was by far the nicest, Finger Lakes Brown I've ever caught - he clobbered a vintage Luhr-Jensen K15 Kwik-Fish, a lure primarily designed for targeting larger predator species. I know the Finger Lakes guys tend to do well with smaller baits, but on Hemlock, bigger has been better. At least for me, and at least in terms of quality fish! The Brown was promptly released and swam off strong in the cold water - (Oh, the water temp was 36 degrees on the surface.)
About an hour later, the 25' Downrigger showed signs of life when the rod tip starting dancing over 90' of water. I grabbed the rod and began to reel it in. Sure enough - to our delight - there was another sizable fish on the line. The bright flashes in the water showed signs of the big Rainbow that would soon be in the boat. This was another Hemlock beauty! We landed it further down the lake cutting across the middle of the South End on a Super-Slim Dreamweaver spoon, in the "Magic Man" Pattern (Orange & Blue).
All told we landed 2 gorgeous, sizable fish on a very favorable mid-winter day. Both were promptly released unharmed to hopefully be caught another day. Enjoy the pics, and hopefully you guys have been getting out too!!

You still buy gas when the prices go up. The finishes on them are second to none 100% best finish in the business and the prices are comparable to others I have probably 500 of them on the boat plus a few hundred of other brands if I could only choose one it would be flt all the way

I'll second this - I even caught that ridiculous Walleye on Hemlock on an FLT spoon... Its teeth didn't even scratch the paint
-
Chuck, is the tail really forked? Hard to tell from the picture. If so its a channel cat. Otherwise it's a world record Bull Head!
-
Sweet fish Chuck - how do you catch all these exotic species out of Hemlock?
I got out on the South end for a bit yesterday morning, first time on Hemlock in 2 months... Caught one nice 23" Rainbow over 70' on a size 0 dipsy, setting 2, 137' back on a Pink/Gold Stingray, and a Laker, about 26" on the 40' Downrigger with a Finger Lakes Tackle Alpha Alewife . Laker was over 50' of water. Beautiful day, a bit windy though...
I'll probably hit again next Sunday weather permitting

One of my riggers needs cable but I can only find 200' and 400' replacement spools. I read somewhere that if you put more or less than the 150' that came with the rigger, that it would effect the rigger cable counter. Will braid effect the counter?
I assumed that would happen when I made the switch, however, the downrigger line seems to be perfectly in sync with my line counter reels.
In other words, When I clip my actual line at the ball and send it down say 40 feet, the line counter on my reel will count off exactly 40 feet as well
-
My 14' Boat is run on battery, so to reduce drag, and extend battery life, I swapped out my cable for 100# braid - on that boat I run 4# balls, so its a real light set-up...
I use 8# balls on my 20' boat, and the 100# braid holds it's own- haven't had a break-off all season.... I will say this though, fleas can be bad, but for most outtings they are OK.... Labor Day on Canandaigua was pretty bad...
I use Scotty 1050 Manuals, and I swap them back and fourth between the 2 boats...

Good stuff Justin! As you may know I'm primarily a Fingers guy myself, but making my first real trip to Ontario tomorrow, can't wait!
One King and I will be happy - enjoy your weekend of fishing (Hopefully)

I use the cooler whem we go deer hunting for a week,Iput a grate in the bottom to keep the food out of the water when the ice melts, it is still in there.
Haha. That's too funny. I was gonna say, it looked like you started grilling him, then decided to get a photo.
-
Great Fish - how on earth did you net him? Haha, was he on the grill prior to the photo? He looks a little charred

Thanks for the input! I may try to get out Saturday/Sunday as both days look great. IBay launch is about 5 mins from my house, so for my first trip I'll probably try that.
Sunday, if I can get out, I will heed your advice!
This is just the beginning for me on the big lake...
Braid and fleas??

Have you ever FishHawk TD’d a Mag diver on 100# braid? Just curious how deep it gets. Obviously it’s catching fish (I see your reports) and that’s all that matters
