So interesting how different people have been having different experiences this year. We’ve had like 5 of our best days ever, and are averaging 5 MORE fish caught per trip than our previous best season. It’s been silly all season long for us... and we haven’t changed a thing!

That being said, this is the most likely time of the year to have tough days. Transition is happening and the fish are moving to the much less predictable offshore areas.

By the way, 6/7 should never be considered “slow”. It’s not lighting them up, but it’s a fine day.

Agreed it was a good day. It's just been weird. The first light bite has been almost non existent with the bite starting around 7 for me each day. The evening bite has been outperforming mornings. We aren't marking much at all. Weird year. Not the first and won't be the last.

  2. The fishing is definitely much slower than last year so far. We went out at first light not sure what the water temps were going to look like. We started shallow and aimed straight north to find where the best water was. Found the fish in 300 fow. Steady pick for about two hours then it just died. 6/7. 5 Kings and a Steelhead. Good size.

No real pattern as every rod fired. Green spoons and green flies. Wire divers have been good early lately then the riggers and braid divers seem to pick up mid morning.

Hopefully the fishing gets better soon. Not sure what’s going on?

  3. I've been trolling Lake O for 15 years without downspeed. Too many life events recently to make the $1,000 investment in a probe. I've had many days with insane numbers. Just pay attention to the angle of your rigger cable and listen for the hum. Or, as mentioned above, look at the bend in the dipsy rods as well.

Downspeed is super important but not having it won't break your day if you pay attention to some other details.

  4. Thanks guys that was very helpful. I usually use Sailflow, Windy.com, and NOAA as my go-to's.

NOAA is calling for 1-3 feet but that is the forecast for the full day. I'm going to assume the early am forecast will be 1-2's and will build to 3's with the shift to East in the PM.

  5. What are you guys thinking of the forecast for tomorrow morning? It says Southeast 10-15 until an afternoon shift to E/NE. Anyone think it'll be too rough from 5am-11am? My rule is typically anything from a variation of a South wind is typically a go. Don't want to get up at 3:30 am if there is a more accurate forecast out there....

  6. We will see.

I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt and hope that they are being proactive as opposed to being reactive in the future. If a reduction means I catch 4 kings for every 5 kings that I caught in the previous years, then that's fine by me (for the short term).

If the reduction in stocking means a short term sacrifice to ensure the fishery is here long term, then I'm all for it. If it's an underhanded attempt to get rid of the Kings, then that would be unfortunate, and I'd obviously oppose it.

That being said I marked a ton of bait off the bar the last few weeks, but that doesn't mean anything because I don't have year over year hard data to compare.
