  1. Thats about what my buddies boat did with his Merc 115. His new Merc 150 will do 43 now. My yamaha F200 will do 49 with 2 guys and full tank, 45 with 4 guys, flat lake of course. I know my buddy is much happier with his upgrade, especially getting out of the hole. My first boat was underpowered and was a dog. I wasnt going to make the mistake again which is why I maxed out the HP on my new one.

  2. I have two Okuma Blue Diamond 8 foot medium action trolling rods for sale.  Model number BD-C-802MA.  The rods are 2 years old and in like new condition. There is a small dent in the foam handles from the rod holder as they were used as downrigger rods.  $70.00 for both, willing to meet within reasonable distance of 14063.  Call or text 716-673-6614.

I haven't seen a timeout issue, that I know of.  Using it as I described, I don't think that would be an issue.  The clip on the TD Is pretty big so it seems to slide pretty easily over knots, swivels, etc.  Just make sure it won't slide over a spoon or whatever you have on the end of the line!  I almost lost it last year ... just caught the hooks on the spoon!

I haven't tried it with heavy fleas.  I did try it on copper (300) and dipseys last fall on Lake O and didn't have any issues.  I use it all the time on Champlain for checking temp at depth.  I hook it to a downrigger and let it down to the bottom and then retrieve it to find the temp break.  I wouldn't hook it anything and leave it out, though.  It will mess with the dive rate.

Fishmaster : You let the cores out as far as you want first, then hook the TD to the line and let it slide down.  That way you don't have to worry about how long it takes to get the lines out.

    Good luck!

Total brain fart on my part.  It never occurred to me to use it that way.  My thoughts were to get rid of my longer cores and just switch to 5 color cores with snap weights ans long as i could determine the running depths with different lengths of backer out. Thanks

  4. I don't have a Fishhawk X4, etc, only a TD.  I don't connect it to anything.  I run the line I want to check depth on like normal, then when line out and speed are correct, I clip the TD to the line and let it slide down.  Leave for a minute or 2 and then bring the line in to check how deep it was running.  I try to run the TD just before pulling a line for a lure change or whatever, so I'm not bringing the line in twice (esp. dipseys!).

I think attaching the TD will affect the dive rate and you won't get accurate data.  I've used it on dipseys, copper and leadcore so far and it seems to work great.
Any issues when using it with leadcore or copper? I wanted to buy one to check how deep my leadcores were running but decided against after learning that they timeout after 45 seconds. I dont think I can get the longer cores out in under 45 seconds to get an accurate reading.

  5. You can tie a uni to uni knot for the leadcore instead of the willis knot.  I tie in a small spro swivel in between the leadcore and the backing and leader that way I dont have to mess with the leadcore knot again when I retie a leader.

He likely has dedicated setups, which is why he has 10 setups. Clip boards on to the backing and no wear and tear on the leadcore itself. I would never clip boards directly to the leadcore just fyi.

    What he said.

  7. I have chamberlains and love them. That being said last year I had the wire that runs through the Chamberlain break and lost a new 16 pound shark weight. Luckily it was on the rigger that did not have my probe on it. I have been using them for 4 years now and that is the only issue I have had with them. I have since cut the wire that runs through the Chamberlain and now run the downtigger cable though the release and then to a Cannon terminator. I have a Scotty rubber stop above the chamberlain to keep it from riding up the downrigger cable.

Last year I bought snubbers for my cannon 10 Stx riggers and wish I had bought them sooner. They really help with the sudden stop and bounce of the balls when its wavy.
