Deer are loving the clover I planted this year in the backyard.

Same here Whaler...they been hitting it hard this summer.  We planted clover and chicory this year.  They had a party a couple weeks ago in our plot and did not invite us.  Got one nice 10 pt and several other decent 8's that has got us itchin' for opening day.

  3. Got out to wash some worms this morning out of Cleveland.  Beautiful drift with an east wind pushed us along at 0.7-1.1 mph.  Wife came along with me and she stuck a nice thick 21”.   I gotta give a shout out to @GAMBLER…got my first fish on one of his walleye rigs.  A nice 20” fish.

    I agree

Are there any live web cameras that you could get a read on near shore conditions I used to see a Weatherbug feed from Forest Lawn but that no longer seems to be up and running

There is a live cam in the MAPS tab at the top of this page.

Add a Lakemaster mapping card and you're all set.

Rick, to get mapping for Lake Ontairo and inland lakes in NY, would we need to buy two Lakemaster cards?  Northeast card to get inland lakes (like Oneida of Fingers) and another Great Lakes card to get Ontario?

  6. Couldn’t pass up what is probably the last nice day so I headed out on Oneida this morning.  Tried to start by launching at Godfrey’s but the wind was howling and the waves were rolling.  So turned around and went to Oneida shores where the lake was much calmer.  Launched and headed out toward marker 130.  Was marking a decent amount of fish in 25-28 fow but could not get a bite.  Blades, bucktail, shiver minnow… no takers.  So headed a little deeper and decided to troll.  Finally got two keepers to the boat but that was all for the morning.  These were my first two walleye while trolling stick baits on lead core…something I’m working on getting better at.  Both came on a bare naked reef runner on 3 colors out about 120 ft.  SOG was bouncing between 1.7-2.0.  Been a tough fall bite for me this year, had to work a lot harder to find them this year.   But all in all not the worst finish to the season.  Now it’s time for some tree stand time in the woods.

if you’re still fishing (or hunting) good luck and stay safe…

  7. Took a day off of work to get out for a muzzleloader hunt up here on the northern edge of the Southern zone in 7A.  About 20° when I left the house this morning, steady 10 to 15 mile an hour wind out of the east with an occasional gust that makes the treestand feel like a carnival ride. No deer movement yet this morning was hoping the approaching front would have them on their feet, but nothing yet.

good luck to all for the rest of the season and happy holidays to everyone

  8. Went out this morning also, 6-11am.  Caught 6 eyes, 3 keepers and a couple keeper perch.  Nothing special for size but will make for a nice family dinner tonight.  Found active fish in 40 fow hitting worm harnesses 15-20 ft down.  Only one fish came while dragging harness on the bottom.  8:30-10:00 seemed to be when they were feeding.  Went over the same track twice after 10 and never had another bite.  That was when the sun came out from behind the clouds and the wind died down.

  9. Gill-T, I think you will like the improvement.  I have one of these plug ins now in my 2015 Silverado 1500.  The guy who replaced my dead tranny (@125k miles) recommended it.  It has reduced my gas mileage by about 1-2 mpg but the clunks in and out of 4 cyl and 8 cyl are gone.  Also improves the throttle response at lower rpm's which was annoying as hell when cruising around town.  If I am making a longer highway drive, I pull the plug out and let the 4 cyl option work when at highway cruising speeds to get back some of the mpg.

  10. Took day off work to go hit the lake this morning.  Fished 7am-noon.  Very windy.  Drifted all morning 1.0 - 2.0 mph.  Fished 30-40 fow.  Went 3 for 3 with 2 keepers.  Caught my first fish on lead core today dragging a worm harness.  Suspended fish over 40 fow.  Really have no clue how far down it was but I had 5 colors out.  Not sure if 5 colors at less than 2 mph with a single blade harness makes it to 25 ft but I doubt it.  Second fish (the bigger if the two) came on worm harness behind a bottom bouncer in 38 fow.

    happy fishing!!

What’s a good way to rig them, drift with them?

Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

Frogger, I have been dragging them behind a 1 oz bottom bouncer and either drifting or trolling.

  13. Been lurking here for a couple seasons...love reading this every day, keeps me excited to get out and hunt.  Congrats to everyone who connected this year.  I closed out a long gun season on our property with a hunt yesterday in 6K in a foot of snow.  No success this year but we are still learning the property a bit, gaining insight for next season every hunt.  Pulled all my cameras and checked when I got home.  Went from elation (bear and 2 of the biggest racks I've ever seen) to borderline rage (2 d-bags on motorcycles twice over Thanksgiving weekend).   UGGGHHH!!!!

  14. Me and my buddy went to our property in Redfield this past Monday to do some mowing.  He got out of his truck and was promptly "attacked" by a young tom.  Came at him clucking with wings out and down, real tough guy pose.  Funniest thing I have seen in a while, startled my buddy pretty good, we had no idea they were there.  Next thing I saw was bunch of yellow puff balls run across the trail.  Mom showed herself soon after.
