How would you say the ranger rides compared to the Lund? Is it less bumpy and noisy than the Lund. If you typically fished 3 people on the boat and had to do it all over again would you choose the Lund 1875 or a Ranger deep-v?

I wish it was more straight forward but the Ranger tracks better trolling and is much more stable bashing big waves. It's also more stable with 3 people moving around. The Lund jumped up on plane at such low speed that it was great to just bounce spot to spot with and it was also fine for 3 people as long as the waves weren't too big. Then it got tossed a bit more.

  2. I had a Lund Impact 1775, which I loved. There’s nothing like the way a Lund jumps on plane.

I have a glass multispecies now. Ranger FS621 that I trailer everywhere. It’s great. Lots of storage. Stable. But a lot of problems with the trailer. Brakes, tire wear, etc. And my gas mileage is crap. A little over 9mpg when towing.

I fish alone 90% of the time but still love the big stable platform. I have started to think about maybe downsizing to a Lund again though. It would just make trailering and launching alone that much easier.

Can you just switch them back and forth from auto to manual? Also, how do they know to inflate if they get wet? Is there some sort of sensor?

On the auto models I have, there's a sensor that makes them auto inflate and a manual pull cord. They don't switch back and forth. If they're auto, they're always auto, with a back-up manual pull cord.

  4. I have 2 of the cheaper Cabelas and 2 Mustangs. Needless to say, the Mustangs feel better so that's what I wear. The Cabelas have also both auto-inflated on their own. One in a boat compartment and the other in the backseat of my truck. It's good to have extra re-charge kits on-hand just in case.

  5. I have the same Ulterra on my 21' Ranger that probably weighs 3500 with the motors. Even with the 31 size AGM's I can barely run it as an auotpilot at 3-4 power all day and no way I could use it as the only power. I'd think it'd be fine for 0.5-1.0mph though. I do that at times but never for long periods so I can't say how long it can run like that. I think my top speed is 2.5-3.0mph. If I get out again this year, I'll check.

  6. The deep tiger feed bite was ridiculous today.  I had chowdaire out with me and wanted to show him how to target the bigger walleye specifically, and I had to move offshore dead center of the lake and abandone the bigger walleye to try to stop catching tigers and still got 1 more.  We ended up with 4 over 36 and 1 for sure over 40.  I handlined all four to the door and released them all without a net with no issues same as I've been doing all summer.  I've definitely caught more tigers over 36" trolling deep this season than ever including when I ran a reaction program every day.  Ended up getting into 1 good walleye at 8lbs, and the rest were average fish.

It was a good day. Nice mix of fish and a couple of those tigers were thick. Lots of great info on the bite and fishing in general too. The water release on those tigers is definitely the way to go. They beat themselves up so bad even holding them in a net but if you can just pop the hook out next to the boat they take off fresh. It was fun and educational. Thanks again, Justin

  7. I caught one like that once on Oneida. Pretty freaky looking but I didn’t keep it. Heck, maybe it’s the same one.

Today was no gimme!  Toughest fishing I've had perhaps all summer.  Got lines in downwind turned around to go back to the area I had good fish and had a double.  Landed a big bass and a decent eye and that was all the action.  Fished 7 hours after not a touch by any species.  Last night was a good wind direction for casting but really was too rough to fish properly and they certainly weren't chewing!  I've had my share of wind and waves but at least the wind blew the lake clean....and I had it to myself for a day n a half!  Nobody else that stupid, but I had to know....bet tomorrow is decent.

I hope so. I'm going to try to get down there in the morning.

    Thanks for the report.

  9. I have had 4 of them and I haven't had the best luck with them, but I need a very fast charger and have stayed with them just because they have a 15 amp per bank model.  I've had enough with all of issues and intend to go with lithium ion next season and hopefully stop going through batteries and chargers.  My use is extreme and probably you will be very happy with any on board charger with out spending double for the minn Kota charger.

I’ll probably be going Li on my next boat and definitely want to try the Power Pole Charge charger. Being able to control which batteries are charging on your graphs or cell phone while running/trolling sounds like a game changer for the way I fish.

Usually makes sense to wait a bit with any new electronics but that Charge looks awesome.

  10. If you're marking suspended fish up on bait try running faster. I generally stagger lines around 20' down (+/-5-10') and run 2.0-2.5 for those fish, and have had stretches where the fish wouldn't go unless it was 3+ (not often). The other way guys do real well is slow and low. Under 2mph and within 10' of the bottom.

Lots of ways to catch 'em but those are a couple if you like to troll.

  11. Inline boards catch the weeds but when they're bad I put a snap weight 50' ahead of the lure or just an OR-16 clip if I don't want to affect the depth I'm running. That'll catch the weeds so your lures run clean. I'll also bury the tips of my leadcore rods in the water sometimes so the weeds catch the rod and don't go down the line.
