  1. Ok Lucky Linda, I am rigging up my SWR, and put 2 colors lead core on my Penn 8000 conflict after a full spool of sea flea 30#. My question is, do I put a flasher or spin doctor on and then a short leader to the spoon/lure, or NO flasher at all just the spoon??? Maybe the flasher kills the lead core action? Please help.

  2. I am going to rig 2 colors of lead for an SWR to use off my downrigger. I plan to use the sea flee line on the reel. The thing is, I use open face spinning reels for my downriggers, since they don't require a line counter. I use the level wind reels for the dipseys, and a  10 color lead core. The open face reel is a Penn conflict 8000, huge reel. I hope this works.

  3. I do not understand what is meant by the lake turning over, and such. Can someone who has knowledge of this please explain it, and what is different than what we have had over the last month (July).  Thank You.

  4. I also wonder if the speed is to make the lure have the correct action, or is it the preference of the fish? It seems that you could use different lures, some that have action at higher speeds and some that have action at lower speeds, and you could always have a lure that is generating some action-movement, as the speed down at depth varies.

  5. I made my spools (reels) out of toilet flanges. One plastic and one with the stainless steel ring, which spins. Glued them together to make the reel. you need one plastic and one with the steel ring to make one reel.  I could not find the electric wire spools that were heavy duty enough when I built mine.

  6. I'm Using 10 colors of lead core, with a cowbell (or spin doctor) and a spoon and it has caught me some nice steelhead this year. 5" cowbell was working great until it broke in half on a nice one. Ordered some more. I find it easy to use, and the reel does not have to be as HUGE as it takes for 300 or 400 copper. I tried, and had to take the copper back because I couldn't even get the 300 copper on, let alone the backing The 45 Okuma I had allowed lead to go on with a good amount of backing. I think 10 colors will get down about 50 feet per the package, but as someone said, no way to know for sure. What I have read is the leadcore actually undulates up and down in the water column up and down, so you are covering a range of depth.

  7. I won't be able to get out until the weekend after next try all the advice. Out of town this week, then when I get home I have to change the prop seals in my 9.9 evinrude, its leaking.  I will try to apply what was said here and see if we do better.

There is some difference in opinion on the temperature importance. From that, I will use it as a reference or starting point, and keep looking for big fish on the FF, but we have not seen many.
