Thanks for the replies. I'm going to take apart the lower cowling in the am and inspect it. Only way to know.

Started the motor today. Water is coming out of the cowling area on the left side. Nothing in the engine compartment. See picture. You can see water dripping from the plastic cover above the steering link straps left side.

I will be trying to get my daughter home from college in Canada. Anybody own a plane?
Just make sure no money changes hands unless the airplane is operated under a FAA part 135 Air Carrier Certificate. To charge for a flight requires an Air Carrier Certificate. There are exemptions for cost sharing of fuel and ramp fees though, for a non certificated carrier. Be safe.

I encourage everyone of you to purchase this little book. I did eight years ago. The opening introduction exactly describes what is happening. Most aren't prepared for anything. Hence the panic.

The Kings stage in August offshore in 120 foot on the bottom. Waiting to spawn there and when cold nights cool off the creek, they will then move up to ascend to spawn.
I've never had as good of luck in August off Olcott as I have earlier in the summer. I have no luck at all getting the staging Salmon to bite!

I should have told you in the original post, I fish out of OLCOTT.

Eight years ago I bought a book about Prepping. It's called The End of The World as we know it. TEOTWAWKIT. It described exactly what is happening right now, with a pandemic, an attack, EMP, whatever, in the opening chapter. The author called it the "big machine" that we all rely on to keep running smoothly. I urge you to get the book. Yes, I took it seriously for a few years, even got a "deep larder" of food that will keep 20 years, etc. Then I got complacent. Now I'm realizing how that was a mistake. Prepare my fellow citizens, we cannot depend on the big machine.

Hello all. My friend from Idaho wants to come and spend a week Salmon Fishing and I'm trying to decide what week would be best. Two years ago he came the last week of July. We did pretty good, but I thought I should have had him come earlier. Please share your recommendation. I realize there's no guarantee as far as weather goes, but generally, what do you think? I fish out of OLCOTT. Thanks.

Are the floating docks beside (parallel) to where you back your boat in, or are they just floating T docks out in the river after you launch the boat. Hope I explained that clearly. The docks used to be fixed concrete, and usually underwater.

So fish above the temp break then.

Just bought two bayrat heads hope they work.

I've done two of them on my own boats. Put pictures on here. It's one nasty, dirty, difficult job. So don't be shocked at the price. It costs about $1000 to $1500 to do it yourself. The epoxy resin is very expensive. Then add in the fiberglass, through hull drain, etc. Adds up.

I've some Kings on the Brad's cut plug too.
Not sure if any of you have tried the Brad’s Super Cut Plug but I ran one today for the first time. Loaded it up with herring oil and ran it 3’ behind a 10” spin doctor. Took a half dozen kings.
Just another option (and something to blow money on).

They do make in line connectors for those type of cables . Very easy to use and will also allow you to go from a 6 wire system to a 5 wire [ that's just a random number depending , on your specific needs.] I needed that as I changed FF and that had a different plug in's at the FF vs the ducer plug . Wanted to keep the in hull ducer and just cut ducer wire so I could use FF plug without messing with a new ducer. No soldering or shields needed .connector has screw type mini clamps if memory serves me correct.

Yep me too. Thought it was a dust cap.
Congratulations on getting it working. I basically did the same thing installing my Raymarine system. Left a "plug" out of the backbone and it wouldn't work. Luckily I found my answer online with a quick search. I too thought it was just an extra part, lol. Autopilot has been the best upgrade I've made and I've heard nothing but great things on that Lowrance system. Enjoy it.

For future reference, if this happens, squeeze the fuel ball when it starts to sputter. If it runs smooth it's the fuel pump.

I have the lowrance outboard auto pilot on my boat. Had it two years now. It is the best thing I ever bought for the boat. Works incredibly well. My only worry is if it ever breaks, and someday it will as all electromechanical devices do, where do I get it fixed? My understanding is that lowrance has no repair. Great product, great price at $999, but service availability is apparently not there to my understanding. Correct me if I am wrong. I hope I am.

I use the Walmart deep cycles. Two of them in parallel. I also have a dedicated battery for starting the big motor. No problems in 4 years.

22 foot Grady white Bimini 220. Lowarance outboard auto pilot. Hydraulic. I have my kicker connected to 175 Evinrude outboard using ez steer bar. Controlled by Lowarance HDS 7. AMAZING UNIT. works precisely in any waves I've been in up to 4 to 5s. My only worry: if it or the fishfinder ever breaks. My understanding is there is no repair. For that reason I wouldn't get it again.

Is water coming from here normal? NOPE-I'm screwed!
in This Old Boat
Posted · Edited by garrymny
I'm screwed. Water shooting out from the gasket between power head and lower skeg assembly. See pictures. I forgot to lower motor in the fall, discovered I had left it tilted up in towing position halfway through winter. Motor starts right up and seems to idle like it always did though. Maybe it's just a gasket? My season is now over. Rebuilt transom last year now this. I have no idea how to separate power head from skeg. 175 HP EVINRUDE 1993. This Motor ran flawlessly. I am disgusted with myself.
