  1. I haven't been out in almost 3 weeks now because of this (and hot walleye bite on Oneida Lake). Super slow since mid May for me basically. My last 2 times out have totaled 3/5 with only 1 salmon. Might give it a try Sunday, but I'm not super optimistic about it. Sounds like they are doing really well further west so hopefully those fish move this way soon!
  2. Most of the steelheads I've caught in the summertime have been on sliders or short leadcores and any spoon with a good amount of orange in it.
  3. I have no experience with that unit specifically but I will say this... 3.5" screen is going to make it tough to see what's going on. I would suggest something with a slightly bigger screen, a Humminbird Helix 5 can be had for under $200 and will be much easier to read with a 30% larger screen. As far as marking your rigger balls, there are a few more factors other than your sonar. Mainly what size/style of ball you're using, I ran 10lb pancake weights my first year and could not see them below 50ish ft. Next year I upgraded to 12lb torpedo weights and I could see them down to 100ft, this was all with the same sonar unit. Any decent sonar will mark your rigger balls as long as they are in the transducer cone.
  4. I launch from Godfrey Point usually. Nice state launch right in the middle of the lake on the north side. It's right before the town of Cleveland on rt 49, decent little bait shop a mile down the road. Huge parking lot, it's usually never crowded during the week either and a big plus is it is FREE to launch there. Very good walleye fishing close to the launch as well. Shoot me a pm next time you go and I'll give you the details on the fishing.
  5. I'm sure they have big plans for the area. They bought Marion manor 2yrs ago now, tore the main building down within the first month but left the ramp, docks and large storage shed. They are in the process of replacing the main section of docks and fuel pumps now. They must have something in mind there and with all the land near the marinas they bought as well. Only time will tell I guess, in the meantime walleye fishing is on fire right now. I usually get out there once or twice during the week, I only live 15 mins from the lake.
  6. Yes they own Snug Harbor, Mariner's Landing and what's left of Marion Manor.
  7. They should be glad they sold it then, a lot of the trailer/camp parks in the Sylvan Beach area just got bought out by Oneida Indian Nation. They weren't given the option of selling, they were told they had 'X' amount of days to leave. OIN owns all of the marinas in Sylvan Beach now as well.
  8. My uncle and a couple guys that I work with store their boats year round at Snug Harbor Marina. They have never had any issues there, seems to be a pretty laid back place the few times I have been there.
  9. Personally never have used a refurb fish finder. If I was going to I would make sure it was refurbished by the factory or an authorized retailer. I have seen a lot of "seller refurbished" items on ebay that I would prolly avoid.
  10. I've read about ppl running dipseys off of the TX-44 Church inline planer boards. I would think the need for the dipsey arm to trip and release from the big boards could prove to be difficult.
  11. I'll have to check when I get home but each of the spools of WS I just bought came with a sticker saying how deep they would go @2.5mph. I don't remember what they were off the top of my head, but I put the stickers on the reels so I can check later (I wanna say 200 WS was 35ft @2.5mph). I believe ppl have said to get the same depths as 45# copper, you would actually need the same amount of 60# WS.
  12. Honestly don’t know, there’s enough backing to run it on a planer board and deal with a decent salmon run.
  13. I have an Okuma Coldwater 303D linecounter reel spooled with 10 colors of Suffix Performance (27lb) leadcore and 30# braid backing. Setup is 2years old, I can get pictures if needed... asking $100 shipped.
  14. On the rare occasion I can find trays of whole herring I brine them in Fire Brine and add canning salt after I cut them. I always use the clear/natural color but have thought about doing some in chartreuse, just never have yet. The precut strips I usually don't brine them, I just make sure to empty all the "juice" from the trays into my container and then freeze in between uses. I don't think it would hurt the strips to brine them again but I usually don't bother.
  15. I thought the same thing for a few years, trolled with my 150hp 2 stroke main with a couple bags out and it did fine. $25 a trip in gas for the main seemed pretty decent also. Then I found a good deal on a 8hp 4 stroke kicker, now I troll the same amount of time for less than $5 a trip. Not to mention it's way easier to control speed and I no longer need trolling bags. Now I question why anyone would not have a kicker...
  16. Water is high but launching is do-able... bring boots if you don't wanna get wet.
  17. lol... you can have the best electronics money can buy. Still won't put fish on the deck if you don't know how to use them. Fishawk X4d is very new and arguably the best probe system money can buy right now. I'm betting you're thinking about the much older fishawk 840 system, which is night and day different than what they are talking about. You're "younger than us"... a quick google search and you could have been just as informed as us too. But you chose to answer without knowing what we were talking about... not the best way to introduce yourself to forum.
  18. I agree also, even if it was just a few generic categories... Electronics, Fishing Equipment, Boats/trailers and Miscellaneous. Sure would make things easier.
  19. Yeah slow morning here also, definitely a lot of debris out there. Ended 1/2 with a 17lb king that came on a 200 WS with a spoon in 105 fow. Other hit was rigger at 50 but he shook off at the boat (another king). We Started to see some good marks in 80-90fow but then the wind picked up pretty good and we headed in.
  20. Bring your boots if you’re gonna launch at Mexico. For reference those are 35” tires and how deep I was to launch the boat. It was prolly 8-10” of water where the ramp started
  21. Yeah boots were needed when I was there last. It would a bit of a ride to Oswego... or you could just stay close and fish the plant like the rest of us that launch out of Mexico.
  22. I think I'd have to see it work firsthand before I'd try that... an untripped Mag dipsey with a ring, out 300' will rival the hardest fighting salmon in the lake.
