  1. For sale. Headunit, transducer and mounts included. May need new hardware for the mounts as what I would include has been on my boat for a while. No map chips included. No other accessories. System works like new, but the condition is used. Local pickup, or willing to ship, but you will have to pay the shipping cost.

  2. I guess the truth hurts. huh? 50 yrs?  I doubt it since he kept everything. Keeping something legal is one thing but 10" bass are not legal and are slightly bigger than yearlings. Dont complain when there are no bass around with the added pressure from more people, kayaks, internet and high tech depthfinders.
Don't worry, I don't plan to stick around where there's lots of people to catch and kill my fish much longer lol. Regardless, you still have no knowledge about how many they caught, the true size of that fish, how often they keep fish, etc. I get the animosity, believe me. I'm a flyfisherman who has kept maybe a half dozen fish ever and almost vomit everytime i see someone with a wild fish on a stringer. That doesn't mean this guy's in the wrong. Morals and ethics are subjective, and just because we may disagree or see a bigger picture doesn't mean we're any better. If you (or I) really wanted to do all we could to preserve what we have, we'd stop fishing altogether. I can guarantee you that will never happen with me until the day I die. In fact it's likely I'll die in a river.

  3. First of all, its total BS that NY has extended the season for Black Bass to March 15th on the Finger Lakes. Last I knew it was Nov 30th like it has been for 50 years. NYS DEC is a P.O.S. Shame on them. Cant give the bass a break because they might eat a trout? Second of all just because its open, doesnt mean you have to keep them. How about catch and release and being a conservationist? With so many guys fishing now, if everyone keeps everything, the resource will be depleted just like we are ruining everything else. (see climate change, endangered species, pollution, etc.). OK so he caught a few bass but the one on the bottom is a dink and not 12" any way you look at it. Thumbs down...

Though I agree with you as I'm a young guy and therefore have more stake in conservation than many, for all you know, it could be the first bass they've kept in 50 years. There is no need for a thumbs down or an angry rant.

  4. I got that Laker yesterday at Canadice in 74fow. on a #7 Blue chrome jigging rap. I mostly fish with A tube jig but have been using Raps the last couple of trips with ok results. I was dead sticking it about 3' off the bottom. I had some Smelt Lottering around under my rap then a big mark peeled off the bottom to my jig I raised it a foot and it was game on. Canadice has been tough for me this year. I have marked fewer fish than in past years. The fish have been glued to the bottom more than past years and are less aggressive. I fished Hemlock 4 days last week 72fow to 85fow. Best day was 4 in 78fow. I marked even less fish their but found them more aggressive. Fish There were still very close to bottom but would chase your offerings up to about 10' which is about where I hooked most of my fish. I mix it up between jigging my bait and dead sticking. I have as good or better luck dead sticking until the fish appear. 10 in the morning till about 1 has been best for me. Lazy fish sinking back to the bottom can be Smelt or small Lakers. I have gotten some small 12" or so Lakers out of both lakes this year.
Thanks I really appreciate the reply. Trying again today, and will give an update on ice conditions after all the rain and warm weather

  5. Man I can't catch a laker out of hemlock or canadice to save my life. Can you share the depth you got that one at as well as how aggressive she wanted it? I got one bite, deadsticking a tube jig on the bottom in about 80 fow in canadice last Saturday. But that's about the only action I've had after fishing each lake about 5 times. I've tried aggressive, I've tried subtle, tried deep, tried shallow, tried morning, afternoon, evening. I get looks, and then lazy fish sinking back to the bottom. I'm going mad, and the window for safe ice is closing rapidly.

  6. I have yet to try these lakes on the ice, hope to get out this year. I fished canadice twice by kayak/canoe for the first time last year and only managed one laker each trip. Had plenty of chasers and lookers too on the graph, but indeed the fish seemed lazy. Tons of bait too!

I just found this site, nice interactive maps of all the lakes and waterways...

Thanks for the maps! I wonder how accurate they are...

  7. I forgot to ask how many and how big. He did say not many though. Does that mean dozens or a few hundred? I don't know, but yes it was an unplanned stocking so first in a long time. On a different note. Still no Lakers for me. Anyone have a good 1' contour map of hemlock or canadice and care to share? Or any advice for either lake?

  8. Update on the brookie. Spoke to the dec today and it turns out it was a stocker. Apparently one of the hatcheries had too many fish and if they didn't get the excess out they were going to die so they threw then in hemlock sometime back in October. The fish looked healthy and the guy said this could be the proof they need to start stocking them. Hopefully they do!

  9. Is there solid laker fishing to be had here? I have a fish finder/flasher and all the right baits for lake trout. Willing to hike miles back. Not sure if better off coming in from south end or north end. Willing to give it a solid try but havnt been too encouraged by recent reports. Any tips would be appreciated.
You and me both brother. I can't catch a laker there at all. I haven't been moving much though. Next trip I'm going to deal with the cold and try to be as mobile as possible. Check the contours on garmins activecaptian app. Still not convinced they're very accurate, and a lot of the lake is unmapped, but it's the only 1ft contours I've found. I've been focusing mainly on the deepest points. Next trip im trying 10-60 ft because I was barely marking any fish out in 90. If you do figure something out please share. I'm getting pretty discouraged. About 24hrs spent and no Lakers.

  10. The one being held in the shanty is a brown. 100%
The one on the ice is a brook trout. 100%
Anyone that thinks that either of these fish are lake trout needs to bone up on their fish ID.
Brook trout were stocked experimentally decades ago. They didn't take and were never stocked again. If that brook trout was taken from Hemlock lake, then it's anybody's guess as to how it got there. I have been a diary holder for Hemlock since the early 80's and we receive the final reports from the DEC for all of the cooperators and there has never been a brook trout reported. I'm told by the DEC that there are none present.
Take that info and make your own assumptions.
Very interesting! I am a fly guy and a brookie magnet by trade lol. Funniest part was I was talking to one of my friends about 2 weeks prior. I don't want to give too much info, but basically some tribs of hemlock have wild brooks, so we speculated that there MUST be brooks in the lake. Needless to say I didn't need to wait long to get my answer. Best part was I was 0% targeting them. Saw a trout shallow through the ice over 80ft and reeled up to it.... I wonder if someone's illegally stocking? Her fins looked too clean for a stocked fish. Are you sure they weren't once native to the lake? Just called dec and reported it, they didnt answer so if they give me a call back I'll keep the thread updated on their 2 cents as to what it was doing there.

  11. It came on a tip up  8’ below the ice over 40fow. We had 8 tip ups out between 5’-15’ under the ice. That was the only flag we had all day.
Hey it was a good one at least. Interesting you say that though. About 50% of my marks jigging have been 15-30ft deep or so, and I got that brookie directly under the ice in 80ft of water. It's weird to be that deep and fish right at your feet

  12. Thank you. I said Brown, my brother said LLS. Tail and mouth told me Brown. Very few spots below the lateral line and orange fillets told him LLS. I'm a walleye guy and it was my first time on Hemlock. I was going for Salmon but I won't complain.
Care to share where about in the water column he was? I'd love to get a chunky brown like that since the Lakers won't play with me.
