  1. So been pounding fish out of Oswego since april fished. 4 footers wensday went 8 for 13 with about 20 knock offs thats never a good sign of whats to come went back out at 5am thursday and for the most part fish where gone caught a couple big steelies and a small king and a couple knock offs but just never found them . Weather was great looking to find out were did they go east up into mexico or way out deep . I looked all over from 100 to 400 was surprised to not have found them thinking they went east but any info would be great allways trying to learn more about how they travel . THANKS
  2. Thanks for that scotty info allmost broke mine on fleas as well
  3. I found that my torpedo weighted steel rods had no flea issues so i am going to get two more set ups and use them of riggers as well when fleas are bad plus the set ups often work better then riggers on some days .
  4. Pounded the kings sat and sunday lots off big kings and a couple really nice steelies in the 8 to 10 pound range . Fleas wear bad had to work my ass off to just keep 4 rods in the water . Was a total spoon bight for us went out in the 300 foot curve and worked it four hours catching big kings and steelies was a crazy good bight . Sunday am started off the same but slowed so went on the hunt and found them 140 to 200 so filled the box with big kings and were off by 11 . I love that place but hate those fleas heading right back to do a 2 day charter on wensday and thursday hope the fleas are not as bad .
  5. It is likely you have a mud wasp nest in the plumbing did the snake or air come out the outlet hose ? Try pressurizing it with a garden hose if its mud wasp it is very hard packed dry mud it will take some doing to get it out .
  6. As long as down temp is good there is fish at the finger and mountain this time of year .
  7. Hooks on stinger spoons are junk break all the time trying to release a mature fish !
  8. I guess if the unit works great marks fish and bait well there really is no need to tweak it i am allways trying to fine tune my helix but really am not happy with the results .With si .chart plotter and duel beam it has a lot of features but does not due any of them really well . I will likely leave the unit on the boat and run as a chart plotter well i use new unit as fish finder really am looking for great screen picture .
  9. Well screen size is one thing fish sonar archs are another as well as side imaging with a 5 inch is screen is a wast of time but really the return of fish are rather weak it is better on 83khz then 200 i have had better units by hummingbird 15 years ago as far as signal returns go . Have you owned the dragonfly model as it uses a multi band with transducer not used by most sounders.
  10. Looking to purchase a new fish finder not happy with my hummingbird helix 5 si was hoping to get some feed back from anybody that may own one , thanks
  11. The 455 khz is for down image i would think you should be able totalk to hummingbird but you might loss di .
  12. After my last trip it would seem it does not mater were they were the day before because they can change alot over night .One day 120 to 200 is hot next day nothing and find them in 400 so i would start at 100 and troll out when you get a bight start working that depth contour and see if you find more fish if not keep working your way out.
  13. Temp break was 50 degrees 45feet down so we ran lines at 35 to 65 all fish about 30 came from 35 to 55 not one fish came on deepest rigger until raising it up to 55 all big kings and big steelies .
  14. Went to Oswego for 2 days and slayed big kings and steelies it was crazy good fishing all spoon bight for us just could not get the meat to fire lots of big steelies and mature kings around . Had a couple double hook ups and one triple on big kings 1st day fished 3 footers and bight was in 140 to 200 and fish were hungry put 3 rods in and before i could get the 4th all rods were hooked up and the bight stayed strong most of the day. On the 2nd day slow start fish moved and 1 footers only saw 1 boat hooked up so went on the hunt found them in 400 and game on it was a mature king and steelie slam feast all the other boats were gone and we just keep working and catching fish . I wish i did not live 150 miles away because it kills me waiting for my next trip .
  15. Thanks guys wind and waves always seems to move the fish and temps last time i was out a black ,green ,lemon colored spoon behind matching fish flash was the hot ticket .I have a carbon 14 meat rig made by minion that i am dyeing to try behind a black /crush glow flasher think it might be a killer . Nice to have 4 riggers and wingers to build a spread and test new stuff .
  16. Thanks but will be on the road by 4 good luck.
  17. Heading to Oswego for 2 days going to start out with a meat and spoon program any recent reports on a good starting dept was thinking of starting out over say 120 and work out but any advice would be great thanks .
  18. That place can be funny if i am having a tough go of it there and i am not marking lots of bait or fish i will pick up and make 8 mile run east or west and take a look around many times it changes the hole game and puts me on fish .
  19. You dont here alot of talk about it but trust me i allways run spoons behind padels and spin doctors just use a long leader to the spoon as it does not need action from the padel .
  20. Thats a great looking hull i would put a 4 stroke yamaha and a kicker and keep that thing for North Carolina offshore fishing ! Or for even less money change out to a i/o . There is tuna in those waters down there a couple bluefin would help pay for the up grades . Good luck with the sale i wish i was !
  21. I have caught alot of land locked salmon drifting live smelt with a spinning rod using split shot and nose hooked smelt . Most productive rod is the one in your hand as when you feel the bight you drop it back a little then set the hook . I dont feel large sinkers would work well as the fish will feel it and drop the bait . I would try using your rigger with a long leed and a very light release or send it down to depth with then trip the release and it will rise very slowly .
  22. On my church tackle walleye boards i was able to just turn the release round .
  23. You should see the size of some of the stripers that you can catch there well trolling macks for tuna on the south end of the bank its crazy !
