Could also be your transducer is needs to be replaced, there is a mechanical component that can wear out.  Happened on one of my units.  Test on your trailer, should feel a click or pulse on your transducer as it fires.

I've used ugly sticks for probably20+ years and never had a problem, I've got a bunch of other rods but I prefer the UGly sticks. Maybe you got a bad batch, contact the company.
