  1. Weather and wave forecast was very wrong!

Headed out about 6:15 and got a couple of rods set by 6:40 in about 120’. Got third rod set, dipsy with a spin doctor and spoon that’s been best combo so far. Maybe 10 minutes and the wire dipsy takes a hit. Fish took off but didn’t take much and then jumped, twice. I couldn’t figure out what it was, a couple of short hard runs but not King like. Got him to the boat but couldn’t get his head up, going straight down. Finally got a look and had 10/12# king hooked in the back just in front of fin. He was in control, not me. He basically tangled through cables and other lines and everything else. I finally got my hands on the paddle and yanked him loose. Skin mark but shouldn’t hurt him. Fished out to 180, then back against the Gail force wind and heavy waves. Got back to 120 again and got a 6# or so brown. By 10:45 lake settled down but very few fish marks and no bait, so headed in.

It was the nicest temp water I have seen so far, nice cold stable temp at 70. Just not many fish.

The fleet headed way out, I didn’t, to rough and windy for me!

    Maybe next week.....

  2. This is a great topic!

It is amazing to me that there isn’t a 30 plus pounder in the Summer LOC!

It will be interesting to see if any of those big 30 plus pound fish run this fall!

It also appears to me that there are significantly less people fishing this year, maybe it’s just on the recreational side but there appears to be way fewer boats and activity in the marinas too.

  3. A nice morning starting at about 6:45 with my son and my granddaughter! Her first trip chasing Kings!

Started in about 120’ with lots of boats in that depth, ten minutes after setting third rod we connect with first fish, a medium laker, a great first fish for her to get the hang of it. Get everything reset and hook a nice Brown, she does great and lands that on her own. When we get to 170’ a nice king hits an outside wire dipsy and heads towards Florida, my son and granddaughter hang on til he gets about 650’ of wire out and off he goes, a “got away” as they say.

Fished out to about 300’, nothing from 170 out. Back in to 200’ and hooked another king, mid teens and they got that one!

One other small king and headed in about 11:30.

    T107 fly, and moonshine spoons.

Every fish was wire, dipsy, zero rigger hits

    Good Luck

  4. Pretty nice conditions to start at 6:45!

Used Whaler 1 depth and Temp info from Braddocks 7/17 report and landed a nice laker in first half hour in 120’ of water, temp was right at 80’ down. Fished out to about 180, temp was really nice all the way but blank screens. Wind came up fast, nothing showing on weather apps etc but it was miserable for about an hour or so. Got back in to 110 and it settled down, got a paddle and spoon down from Yankee Troller report from the weekend and hooked a real nice king, but still not marking fish or bait. One other shaker, and that was it, no good screens for me anywhere, but temps were great.

So a Shaker, a laker and a nice king and some weird weather...again!

Good luck and thanks to the fellow fisherman who share the information!

  5. It’s interesting when you are on the lake everyday!

There are lots of dead bait fish this year fir sure and they explained the two bacteria’s that killed them etc.

    But...

This year there are also dead bullheads and pike, haven’t seen any perch or bass, trout.

Last year there were some, not lots, but some small bass and perch around the dock, this year, I have seen none.

Im not a biologist but I have watched and fished here my entire life, something isn’t right!

The fishing here on the south end was world class not many years ago, I stopped fishing just to leave the few that are alone.
