  1.  Wondering what was the preferred planner board release  for Copper and leadcore. I'm using Cannon offshore releases I happened to have but figured there must be other releases that will hold them.
    Thanks, Rick

Scotty power grip I just got for my coppers. I have been using krazywolf mini for my leadcores only thing about the krazywolf mini’s is I had some false releases on 7 to 10 cores in 2’ rollers with flasher/ fly. They won’t pull a 11” paddle with a 3 fly meat rigs. Hopefully the larger Scotty’s is the cure

  2. Upgrading to a Bayliner 2452 express. It’s a compromise between my wife and me. That having a large cabin is best for her and my daughter and a decent fishing platform with a hard top. It’s a big difference from my 17ft walk thru. Going to mount planer board reels on each side of hard top with pulleys running towards to front of hard top. My question how would rod trees work with big boards. Looking at High Seas quad trees with the 10 degree dipsy holder at the bottom. It will take up a lot less space. I usually only see guys running inline boards with trees. My normal spring brown spread is 2 rods each side on boards with 2 riggers unless the board bite is prevailing then 3 board rods. Mid to late season 2 riggers and lead core and my new coppers on boards no more than 1 rod per side with a wire dipsy. My spring rods 7’6 for browns and copper and core rods 8’6” and 10ft dipsy Rods to clear down riggers easily. I’d like to run a 3rd rigger down the center but that’s out of my reality this season. The only thing I don’t like about the horizontal high sea quad rod holder you can’t turn the dipsy rod holder forward like I do now with my individual rod holders. Unless they can give you a holder that has the 10 degree angle on one of the quad holders. Usually the dipsy bite is a violent wack compared to a rigger or core bite. I almost lost a wire setup once now I bungee it just in case.

  3. Poaching = destructive harvesting with little respect of the resource !   One wonders how much habitat loss in the late 1880s played in the demise of the Atlantic salmon when we heard of the pointless slaughter of the fish !
Biology 101 : biology has natural ups and downs of all species  ; if the species suffers an added attack  eg. Poaching it may disappear !
Other examples : the turkey was wiped out in Ontario not in NYS !
Walleye : over harvested and poached !
The deer population is down in the Niagara peninsula Ont. How can we prove it ie not due to poaching .

  4. It was cheaper and less aggravating to buy a used jet ski trailer and extend the tongue for my square back canoe . This was in PA. They wanted serial numbers off the axel, GVW of axel, pictures, inspection, and $79 for title. I got a used jet ski trailer for $125 it needed tires and $30 for tubing. All said and done I didn’t have more than $200 into it.

  5. Just last month I purchased die cuts to upgrade flashers and dodgers from Mad River he will work with you on quantity and has a lot more colors available including super glows and plasma. I used heat gun and denatured alcohol to remove old tape. Buffed the dodgers on wheel buffer almost back to their new luster. Added new tape with added extras dots, ladder backs, and glow tape. I made 5 old flashers into the new trending one that cost $18 for a couple dollars and put life back into a dozen dodgers. Fast and reasonable shipping. I have about 2 dozen spoons that need some bling. Saving them for the winter

  6. Good read! I could not imagine a 80lb king on a 400 copper everyone in the boat would have a sore arms! In six years the biggest over the rail 24.5lbs and that was a on 7 color. Still remember the early 90’s when you get a 30+ at least ever other season

  7. Buy a Fish Hawk TD to come up with your own depth chart with your variables. I spent 6 hrs on the water coming up with my depth chart and variables. Speed, outward dive setting, flasher type and size, spoon size, and then I picked up 2 John King diver disc weights which made my dipsy’s really dive my wire angle is almost 45 degrees. Take a kid with you that likes reel by the 15th time reeling in his arm was burning away but didn’t care. I told him practice makes perfect. Its was cheaper than buying the precision trollers bible and the wire was so nice and tight on the reel could of fit another 100ft

  9. Do most of you spool your own reels with the reverse method. Leader copper braid or use clip on the rod line counter? I got a digital line counter on eBay that’s only 4 1/2 inches in 100 ft paid $26. It works very well when I re-spooled my cores and wire divers.

  10. In the video by torpedo it looks pretty coil free. I have their wire on my diver rods and have great success with it. I was old school with my spread 4 riggers now run 2 with up to 4 wire dipsy and long cores on boards. This year if I had $ 20 for ever time I heard 300 copper on fire, only rod we moved was 400 copper on the radio I’d have enough money to buy everything at once.

  11. Looking to add 8 coppers rods to my spread. I was going to go with Okuma convector high speed reels matched with the Okuma GLT lead core/copper rods 8’6” and run them off my big boards. I have several questions? I’m going to run 100&150 on 30 size reel,200,250,300 on 45 size reel with the 300 having about 350ft of backing and 350,400,450 on 55. I was going to use 65lb braid. I really don’t see the need for 600+ft of backing? Is it really worth the money for the high speed reels ? What is the best release for the braid and will take the weight of a 450 with FF combo and 11” paddle with Twinkie rig? I’m most likely going with Atomik copper 2000ft bulk spool or the weighted steel line that suppose to be extremely coil resistant? Longer rods? I am willing to spend 1k for the copper in my spread but don’t want to regret something I overlooked trying to save dimes on dollars. I’m a ebay buyer cause there is no place local to even get that gear or advice. Thank you for your input.

  12. Thinking about planing a family vacation in July in the sylvan/Verona beach area. We usually go to Fairhaven or Sandy pond on ontario but with the high water looks like there are no beaches left. I haven't been on Oneida in several years. Going to do some fishing but mostly relaxing with family which include toddlers to teenagers. Any input will be much appreciated.
