  1. Based on 3 different marine forcasts that I just looked at for mexico bay, they seem consistent. Winds 5 to 7 knots ,seas 1' or less for the next 4 or so days. I'm sure out at the 100+ it'll be a little stiffer but overall pretty nice. Don't take my word for it, things change in minutes with chances of T storms. Boats ready to go, hope to see everyone out taking a well deserved breather. Now all we need is fish lol.

They changed weather since then lol

  2. Good morning Gregger. I run a small rig with pretty much the same set up. Let me just start by saying it's not easy but the reward is off the hook. Getting everything set is the easy part. You're 1st hookup will make you want a bigger boat. Lol. I stick to 4 rods with 1 passenger, sometimes 2 depending on lake conditions. You'll hear alot of debate about temp this time of year, focus on the marks, although I like to find temp breaks when possible. Usually try to keep gear just above marks, with one rigger tight to bottom with a spoon for the occasional brown or laker. Tried running core down the slew a few times but was too much to deal with. Run speeds between 2 and 3, lots of S turns, and a ton of patience. Too much to tell, you'll figure it out. Just a precaution, be sure you keep an eye on the sky, make sure you're crew are familiar with safety protocol, and don't leave your comfort zone. Not trying to tell you what to do, but that lake has no mercy. Good luck, be safe, and have a blast.

  3. Was probably Lenny in the river. He's starts scouting the river at the ball park every 1st of August. He's a nut, but I've been lodging with him for 18 yrs

Yea. 6:30am rods out. 120fow A lil north of big river.

some feller was on a small boat fishing little salmon river next to My boat in the slip.  He said he Knows guys gettin salmon out of the river last week.  Sounds ubsurd to me. So before I moved out deep ,for ****s and giggles ,i ran in to 60Fow in front of river and putted around to see if fish were stackin up. Didnt see any marks from 100fow to 60fow.  Then I picked up and ran to 160fow and was markin fish here and there.

unless I hear any reports before Saturday, I’m thinkin Saturday morning setting up in 180FOW and runnin out  deeper and stayin in Temp.  The last two years fishin was great. Definitely spoiled me.

  4. I'm no pro, but my procedure is based on the day before reports. Weather and wave 1st, fish 2nd. Running a small craft, there are 3 points of contact that are my main usage. If the dunes and north are hot, Sandy's the closest . If the stacks are hot (power plant ), Mexico is closest. Pine grove is shallow but puts you in the estuary right in the middle. I don't know how familiar you are with the bay, but basically I like to cut a line between the dunes and the stacks. 90 to 150 '. With the threat of thunderstorms I always want to have the shortest run to port. Pine grove gives me the best options.
Hope this helps, there's alot of guys that know better than me.

I really appreciate the help, flying blind but have to start some how so this really helps.

  5. We all need a little help this year. Can't think of a better way to find clarity than fighting a fat salmon in late summer. Hell, I'll take a 20lb laker any day. See you out front, I'll be the idiot in the misty harbor with the big grin on his face.

Ya I do lol don’t mind helping I remember times when I could have used help and never got any and it sucked so figure I skip the really hard part for some people don’t catch em all though leave some out there for me [emoji16]

  6. Well said and honestly all the things and tips and tricks everyone is throwing at you  low baller are ways to try and put tight lipped fish in the box but unless u have a lot of money it’s all the things you acquire overs years of fishing I was fortunate enough to buy the same boat and tackle that I fished on for about 15 years from my friend who got to elderly to fish and also taught me about 98 percent of everything I know about fishing out there but I’ve been hooked for life on it
And it's folks like yourself that have taught me most of what I know. That's what I like about this sight. And I'm finally starting to put faces to names which is very cool. I'm just a fat guy in a little boat. Been playing the late season game for about 15 yrs now. If I can put a couple in the freezer each year, I'm a happy boy. Thanks

  7. Meat riggs can get expensive.  If u dont get to pick a couple up I have a bunch I can loan ya.
My plan is to be at my boat around 8ish Friday night.  If ur up there maybe we can meet up and get a bite to eat and talk salmon.  Lol
All depends on Ty. He's trying to finish up a job this week so we can stay up till next Tues. If the weather holds. I'll text you later this week. Worst scenerio is we come up Saturday morning and go from there. I know he's going like hell this week. Lol

  8. Someone wrote an interesting thread about tipping flys with strips. Always thought about that. Kind of like a flounder rig. Makes the bait bigger, and adds a little action. Thinking out loud.

I started running meat rigs with MC Rockets a few years back and then with real meat last year. I always have one down deep now. Some days its the only thing that fires. It's made my catch rate much more consistent.

  9. I usually launch at pine, get to 60+ and set gear head north. Depends on wind. I'm small so I prefer a tail wind for return. Don't mind the push on the out . Low and slow. Never tried meat rigs, though I experiment with alewife oil on flys. Hard to tell, when they're active they'll take just about anything.

That’s where I’ve been launching from I can’t handle Mexico on weekends anymore I’d start in 150 in front of big river work your way north

  10. That's what I like to see. Do a little scout before we get up there. Ty, aka the Red Headed Yetti, is so pumped. He even bought a pair of inflatable pfds and glow sticks for me. I might have to launch out of Sandy if the fish are still around the 150. That's a hump from pine grove. Hoping there's bait in the 100. No problem with under 2' but like to stay in my comfort zone. Thanks for the info folks, fingers crossed.

  11. This season I started noticing small dime to quarter size bubbles in the paint on my transom. Upon scratching off the paint bubbles I'm finding small pinholes corroded through the aluminum.

2 questions. 1 , what's causing it,and 2, proper repair? The boat is 22 yrs old, I have used it a few times in saltwater for flounder, and I did replace the fuse bus 2 seasons ago. Electrolysis ? Magnetism? Or just showing her age? For now I'm just going to silicone the spots, she's getting an overhaul this winter.
