  1. Ok guys as most of you have seen my post. I am at the point where I'm ready to purchase my auto pilot system. I have already converted my bout over to hydraulic steering, I guess what I'm having trouble with is should I go to a Raymarine ev-100 or a lowrance auto pilot. I will also need to purchase a new waypoint unit so I can really go either way . Could you also include witch waypoint unit you would buy. I'm only looking to spend 1000 on waypoint . What's your opinion. Thank you in advance. Kjpenn-yan-2188153.jpeg

  2. Ok guys as most of you know I'm trying to set up my first lake boat. I have gotten a ton of help from everyone. Well my newest dalema is my OMC inboard steering problem. Ok I am converting my cable steer with hydraulic assist steering to hydraulic. My omc has power steering assist. When my engine is not running it is impossible to tern the helm. I thought to myself it's because of the power assist. So tonight I unhooked the cable steer and the power assist cylinder. My problem is I can not move the lever arm that the power assist cylinder was hooked up to. I even put a pair of vis grips on the arm to make it longer still could not budge it, in either direction. My question is shouldn't I be able to move this arm back and forth freely in return it should turn the rudder on the outside of the boat. I almost forgot my out drive is a omc also from what I was told. I just don't think it's right. Has anyone ever experienced this . What my Hope's are is to eliminate the power assist steering, install the hydraulic steer cylinder and my new auto pilot. I was also told by one of you guys on this sight that they have done this same thing before on a boat and it worked successfully with no problems. Maybe I'm just worried for no reason at all. If I had the hydraulic steering I would just hook it up. But I'm afraid to order it at 900 big ones until I'm sure it will work. Any input would help.

  3. Well I guess I'm not sure. I'm not really familiar with the difference in the unit's . I now it is almost impossible to steer unless motor is running. There Is a cable that run from the helms back. I guess that is why I was calling it and thinking it was hydraulic steer. So I guess what you are telling me is this unit wouldn't work on my boat anyway. So a true hydraulic steer boat would have the hydraulics lines going all the way to the helms ?when I was reading cable steer I was thinking that was the old cable pulley system, so know I'm back to really not knowing what system will work for me. Right know my boat has the sportpilot autohelm with remote. I have a used one in a box to. I just didn't like that main motor had to run in order for it to work. Figured I would sell older unit and upgrade. That way I could add a kicker also. What would you guys do. I thank you guys in advance for all the info. I'm new to all this stuff and really don't have anyone else to get advice from.

  4. First off I want to give thanks to everyone that has posted on here. I have found all the information valuable.  Thank you. Well I got another question above in my original post I mentioned that I had a 25 hp yamaha . It is a four strock electric start. With power tilt. I have all the controls , wiring and cables to hook this thing up. From the numbers on the motor it was manufactured in 1998.  It runs great new stainless steel prop. Motor was on my pontoon boat. Witch is for sale. Anyways it runs great. Know I have looked around and really can't find anywhere that will give me an idea what this motor is worth. I'm hoping maybe selling it for enough money for a smaller kick motor or a new pilot set up. Any ideas

Hi guy. I'm writing on here to see if anyone could help me out. I have always had the passion for fishing. I have had meany boats in the past. I have become every interested in down rigger fishing. I have watched a lot of utube. Unbelievable how much you can lern from there.  Well I have saved up some money, bought a 1985 24' penn van . Have not had it in the water yet but can't weight to get her out. I have installed 4 down riggers 2 big jon and 2 cannon riggers. I installed a water temperature unit that will tell me water temp and speed of lure.  I have a helix 7 with gps. And all the safety stuff needed. I am looking for some advice. I have a Yamaha 25 hp with power tilt. Is that to big of a motor to put on for a kicker. Plus I'm in the need of buying tackle.  I purchased some stuff from this sight and ebay but I would love to know being a beginner. What should I have in my arsenal.  I'm truly looking to fish Lakers and salmon. Anything you guys can share will be highly appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

Thank you for the advice, I did forget to mention in the above post that I have taken charters out. About 6 times know. That's what got me hooked. I have pretty much got my boat set up to the point I am from what I have learned from utube , charters, and web sights. I guess what I'm looking for more then anything is what equipment,  rigs are the local guys using to get me on the fish.  I know I will learn alot just by trial and era . Just looking to put my money to good us instead of useless gear. Thanks again Happy fishing.  O and just to clarify the above statement of going out by myself, I was trying to say I want a boat that can pretty much fish her self. I own a small construction business with 8 employees.  I highly doubt I will ever get the boat out of the shop without one or two of them wanting to tag along.

I almost forgot it has a old pilot that is under the hell wheel. Seems to work ok but I would love to install something newer up to date that will go to waypoints and follow a past path or line. Like I said new to this so I'm still learning. What would you guys buy something worth the money. I'm most likely going to fish alot by myself. So a good pilot will help . I already have the hummingbird lake chart maps for my helix7.
