  1. Wanted to create this post to see when does the shore bite tend to pick up on Seneca and Cayuga? I do remember reading a previous thread saying March can be good, but wasnt sure when in late fall/early winter does one have a shot at Landlocks, Browns and even Lakers? I live 4-4.5 hrs so looking to maximize my drive time. Also, is there a good resource other than DEC to get surface water temps?

    Thank you in advance!!

Depends where you live, man. There’s dozens of public access piers on Lake Ontario. Look up the pfr locations in whatever particular area you interested in fishing.

Ok so did some searching, Olcott is closet to me, but some said they ruined the pier fishing with all the new construction? Lake O is pretty new to me, so trying to learn.

  3. Did you jig them off the bottom or were they suspended? I ve watch some youtube videos of a guy jigging for Lake Trout on Cayuga, and he picks up several by letting bait fall to bottom, jig it couple times, then slow wind it back up to his kayak.

    Thanks!!

  4. Look at Tadpole Divers. Come in several weights and easy to use in a kayak Offshore Tackle has dive charts too on their website.

Snap weights also an option and inline trolling weights.

If you dont wanna mess with that, use leadcore. You will need a big level wind reel. Can get one fairly cheap.

  5. Last April we started out trolling a mix of hard baits and spoons. After a few fish were in the boat it was clear spoons were the way to go. We were trolling in less than 20 FOW and caught them on a couple of different color combinations but I can't recall which ones. (I really have to start keeping a log) I do recall we felt like flash was more important than color.

Flatline trolling spoons or did you use riggers, divers or lead-core? What kind of spoons

  6. I have a couple questions...will the lake mostly be open water in Mid to late March? I ve wanted to come up and catch some Lakers from the shore, and with my birthday being mid March, what better time to go try.

Is Taughannock my best bet from shore? Can you fish down in Ithaca at Stewart Park and/or East Shore Park?

I live about 4 hours south down here in PA, so I ve been doing a-lot of Google Earth searching for shore access.

Now over on Seneca, I understand you can fish the pier and rocks at Watkins Glen?

    Thanks!!
