  1. I had bought one last year and it had worked good for us. Well until I had I mishap with my wire on the dive during the derby. Funny thing is that it had jumped out of the water like a steelhead would. Maybe just to laugh at us. I think it just gives it a little different roll. Whether or not that comes into play or not remains to be seen. I pick up a couple at the show so time will tell Sent from my SM-G892A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. This was my 3rd year doing the Salmon School. They did a great job once again. There was alot of info they gave and at time funny. It was great that it was more for the smaller boat guys. Some of tactics that when fishing get tougher that I know I forget about doing. I have come to realize that you never stop learning. Capt Pete said it best what this school is all about. You come back to the dock with only a couple and say the fish weren't biting today. The right behind you someone comes in with in cooler full. You start asking yourself why did I only get a couple ? What was I doing wrong ? Was I even fishing in the right spot ? That's where the salmon school helps. I appreciate everything you guys do for everyone. 3. That's awesome. Nice fish. Love the color on the 1st pic Sent from my SM-G892A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. I run 4 divers. Black for low, green for high divers. I have green reflective scale tape on the high diver. For some reason the steelhead seem to like it. Usually I'll start running flies or meat on the low diver and spoons on the high till I see what they want. Sent from my SM-G892A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. With wire and no weight out 210' I believe I should be in the 75' range. I was around 40'. That was on setting 3. I have yet to use the weight yet. But from what someone at slide diver said it should be 2.5:1 ratio with the weight. Sent from my SM-G892A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. On a small boat I believe the slide diver is more of a necessity. It is so much easier to net the fish. Especially when running meat off them. I would advise getting the weight kit for them. Toward the end of the season I bought a fishhawk TD. Needless to say I was nowhere near where I thought I was. If u happen to be going to the Niagara fishing expo slid diver will be there Sent from my SM-G892A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. The one thing I would say is don't be dead set on just fishing the bar. While the bar can be awesome Wilson and Olcott can be just as good. Last year the water on the bar was ice cold and the fishing wasn't that great while Wilson was on fire. I did a couple charters during the spring and summer LOC. He was out of wilson and I asked about the bar and I was told that he hadn't had a need to go up there. Just my 2 cents for whatever it's worth Sent from my SM-G892A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. As long as it has a good backbone u should be ok. On the charters I have been on I believe they were just med rods. I like my med-heavy rods. For me it's more about the just in case moments. They are some people the have hook into a musky down there. When u are drifting u want your line in as much of a 90° as u can and the weight just ticking along the bottom. 9. We use the same rod and reel we use to cast for bass and pike. I like a 7' med or med-heavy rod with fast action. As far as reels go it really personal preference. I personally like the bait casting reels I find it easier to bring the weight up and down with the depths. We usually are using 2 or 3 oz weights depending what part of the river are fishing. The qwikfish do work but it seems that the maglips have worked better of late. The best piece of advice I can give you is do a charter and/or go the the fishing expo and do 1 of the seminars for the lower river. I can tell you that it is well worth the money. I have done a few. In between the charters and Salmon School the last few yrs my learning curve got a whole lot smaller. With that being said you are always learning things. I can tell you that you are in the right place for help. Best group of guys that aren't going to bs you. Good luck Sent from my SM-G892A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. I love the slide diver. I run the wire to a very short piece of braid the attach 30' of 30# big game to the barrel swivel. After the swivel I just use a 2' leader of fluorocarbon. It makes things alot easier when running meat rigs. If that's th he way u decide to go I would also get the weight kit they sell for it. U will have to use a lot less line to get where u want to be Sent from my SM-G892A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. Not local but I've had good luck with Empire Covers. I think I had paid $225 for mine. Sent from my SM-G892A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. Just an fyi for anyone wanting to do the salmon school. Looks like only 3 seats left Sent from my SM-G892A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. I have an 18'er. I have both electric and a gas kicker. My Minn Kota acts more as a auto pilot and push the boat with the gas. Last winter I got a early 2000's 8hp 4 stroke for about $800. U should see some kicker on craigslist throughout the winter. The gas kicker is a nice insurance policy if God forbid anything happens to the main motor. Oh my minn kota is a Tereova 80# thrust Sent from my SM-G892A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. Heading up to Olcott for an afternoon run. Anyone out today ? Shallow or deep ? Thanks Sent from my SM-G892A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. He runs it out of his house. Does great work. Repaired my old cannon riggers before I upgraded Sent from my SM-G892A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. Just got back from SLR. They have a sign coming off the 81 300' no wake zone.. But they are not enforcing it around clayton. Seen a boat go past the coast guard full throttle while they boarded a pleasure boat. Sent from my SM-G892A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. I'm not absolutely positive but I dont believe so. I have the Elite ti also. It has wireless. You can run a tablet/smart phone off it but I dont think the elite 5 is compatible. From what my understanding was the elite ti can hook up with another ti through the wireless or 2 hds models you can network both of them on 1 transducer Sent from my SM-G892A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. Once u buy it just keep the ID# with u. If u get a fish to weigh in u will need that number. Good luck Sent from my SM-G892A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. X2. I dont fish it eith but I know guy that do. Eel bay has been a good but you also have to be careful too. I know that there is a lot of rocks there which is why I stay away from the bay. Right now the water is almost 74°. But the channel is a good area if the fish want to cooperate. Good luck. Bass fishing has been the better option this week Sent from my SM-G892A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. We fish Clayton area a few times a year. I dont normally look for structure too much. You can really drift along the weed beds. We cast Mepps #5's, gaint killers and long casts. As far as bass go we just drift in 15-25' with some sort of live bait. Worms, minnows or crayfish. Hope that helps. I'll be up there in a couple weeks Sent from my SM-G892A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. That sure is a nice ride. Sent from my SM-G892A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. Ok thanks for the help Sent from my SM-G892A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. I know it wouldn't change the return on the sonar but with the 16# torpedos I get such a big line on fishfinder. Do I need to fish smaller weights til there is too much blowback and then use the torpedos? Or is that a sonar issue ? Running lowrance elite Ti with the totalscan transducer Sent from my SM-G892A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  24. U can call the coast guard and they will send someone from the closest station to your house to do an inspection. Atleast they were doing that last year. I got mine inspected at the launch at Olcott. Sent from my SM-G892A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. I'm up there a couple times a year. We do very good on Mepps Gaint Killers and long casts. Here is what we use. Sent from my SM-G892A using Lake Ontario United mobile app
