  1. I’d say you have it tilted to far forward, your probe is going to have blow back. I know that doesn’t solve your current problem but could solve a future problem.

Meaning his wheel doesn’t clear the bottom of the transom enough? I considered that, but from the pic it seems to clear to me. Maybe my eyes aren’t good enough though. If it’s not clearing the bottom of the transom that would impact the wheel from spinning, as the area behind the transom will be more like dead water.
  2. It looks fine to me. IMG_0037.thumb.JPG.3c8206d938bc10e69f036f3741a63feb.JPG

This is how mine is mounted. Clearances look fine. There’s nothing infront of the transducer that would interfere, correct? Honestly seems like you may just have gotten a defective transducer from them. I recommend you email

them tomorrow, with the pics and follow up

with a call. Being that you are getting temp I would assume interference with your FF isn’t the issue. Maybe it could be a bit lower, but I would seek input directly from the company.

  3. At the boat. I haven't even tried it with the probe yet

Okay, so you have run it in the water on the boat and it still doesn’t read. It isn’t uncommon after some time for the wheel on the transducer to not work. I’ve seen it. Like the other member just asked, show us where it is mounted. Luckily, your probe will still read speed so long as that isn’t defective or damaged, and that is the important speed after all. Post a pic of the mounting location. It does sound like you either have a bad connection possibly or a defective transducer. The good news is that Fishhawk customer service is pretty good, so fear not.
  4. If you spin the wheel in a bucket of water it will not work. It refreshes every 45 seconds if I recall correctly. Did you actually run it or only test the wheel out of the water? If only out of the water (or in a bucket) throw it in and it will function. If not, check your connections. If that doesn’t help, contact Fishhawk and they’ll likely send a new transducer. Again, spinning the wheel out of water will produce 0.0 (Even in a bucket of water) but will read temp.

  5.   Run your mouth there Mr.1 post!! Did you ever hear of auto correct, not the best way to show your first couple of posts. Then you wonder why nobody posts anything anymore, it’s because of you ignorant pricks like you who run their mouth before their brain is in gear!! I don’t give a shyt if they do bar me. It’s just $20.00 they’ll loose. To let you free bees run your chops. This younger gen. Is really something. I sure hope I’m dead before you knuckle heads take control of this country, you just can’t jump on you phone call out someone and hide behind your IPhone8. Real world don’t work that way Mr Bgk88!!!  I’m out!! I don’t need this aggravation first thing in the morning!!

Huh? I put “throne” in parenthesis because I was quoting what you had said, just like “jackazz”. My point was that the drama we see on the screen is scripted, so to call another person on there an arse is “taking the bait” as I referred to it. I bet Tyler acts a bit differently in real life. Sorry that my post struck a nerve with you. That was not the intention. I’m not sure where the whole “this new generation” rant comes in to play. I suppose you’re assuming the 88 in my username means I was born in 1988 along with other assumptions. I suppose it doesn’t matter regardless. Good luck fishing, Pap.

  6. i think it might pay to get a little perspective here. First of all the original post was calling attention to a young kids as yet unexplained death. As with nearly any TV program the Wicked Tuna show  has scripted parts and when paying close attention you can often see and hear the folks reading from cue cards. Does that mean the show isnt any good or that it is "phony" in its entirety? No. After talking with Dave Marciano personally I realized that there is very little difference in his personality in real life than that projected in the show. He is a very knowledgeable, experienced  fisherman who looks at his involvement in the show as a something to augment his main income as a fisherman. Is he or the others polished professional actors? No.  Does the scripting affect the credibility of those fishermen appearing on the show? I don't think so. Contrast the show with some of the other reality shows like the Kardashian crap and it becomes clear that there is at least some social redeeming value to it. I'm always looking for the details on how they rig their baits and equipment and little "nuances" in what they are doing regarding fishing and ignore the drama stuff  which may appear interesting to folks only generally interested in fishing itself. The character Tyler McLaughlin presented on the show could be perceived a s a real pain but if you notice the kid catches some pretty big tuna...not an accident..... he knows how to fish....Is he 'likeable"? I'll leave that up to the viewer. No sense getting into a war over this stuff.... just a TV program.....

Exactly, the persona Tyler and the others play doesn’t necessarily reflect who they are in real life. It’s definitely dramatized.
  7. I think everyone knows its scripted....but what other reality show has guys fishing in nice boats landing big fish? I suppose we could watch the bachelor......

I watch it as well. My point was he “took the bait” when it comes to saying Tyler is a crappy captain... he was calling him a “jackazz” and said he would have “throne”(assumed he meant thrown) him off of his own boat.

  8. Thanks, what would you recommend for us rookies. I was thinking about chunk bait or blood worms if I can find some.

Blood worms are effective if you drift them through fish. Anchoring and bottom fishing them yields basically any species stealing your $1.25 worm. If you’re going to anchor fish live herring. Use a circle hook right through the nose, or use a tiny zip tie through the nose and put your hook through the zip tie. Clip the dorsal or tail fins of bait. I strictly troll as to avoid the catching/buying/keeping the bait alive issue. Rapala F18’s trolled 30’ behind the ball just above the fish is my game. Downriggers and lead core are effective. 20 lb mono main line, 4’ 20# flouro leader. Troll at 2.6-3.0 at the probe. Most importantly, let the 40”+ fish go even though they’re legal and keep the 18-28” legal fish (i keep 22-28”) for table fare. They eat better and it’s for the good of the fishery. Pics and measurements of the big ones, and if you want a mount go replica.
  9. For this one you have to pay $8 a day or 50 for the season the guy usually it's right by the boat ramp if you want to purchase, lots of parking
    Good luck[emoji6][emoji106][emoji476][emoji476][emoji476]Screenshot_20180430-070225.thumb.jpg.12c1ee3a20cbc4071d307725741c404e.jpg

This is where I launch. Worth the money since two can launch at a time and plenty of parking. Sleightsburg is cramped at best, but free. Both launches are treated like they’re fishing piers so you always have some interesting people that at times get in the way. Most are fine.
