  1. Fished this morning out in front of the power plant in 110-180fow.  Went an abysmal 6 for 12.  Had 3 bites on spoons, 1 on FF and 8 on meat.  All of the fish we lost were on meat.  Not sure what the issue was.  Of the six we landed the biggest was only 10lbs.  Just couldn't find any big fish.  I did have 2 guys with me that had never fished for salmon before so it was nice getting them both their first kings, even if they weren't very big.  Coming back to Olcott next weekend so I hope some bigger fish will be in the area.

Fished about 1 mile East out of Olcott, started in 330 FOW, caught a King within a few minutes. Worked out to 410 FOW, nothing. Decided to head SW, to shallower water. We found fish in 220-260 FOW, end up 5 for 7, Kings, 1 Coho and one slob laker. Spoon bite on the riggers 56 down.

Fish straight out of Olcott in 220-375 FOW. Went 4 for 5, Kings, Coho and one steelie. Green and black glow, NK mag green/blue. Fish came 47 feet down on riggers; 235 out on copper did a 12 lb Coho. Buddy got sick, so in early.

Glad to see the fish starting to become more active.  I'm coming up tomorrow to fish until Sunday around noon.   My boat will be in dock #2 all weekend.  Stop by if you'd like a cold beverage.   I owe you one for providing all the info this week.  Lol...

  4. I've never used a wire diver setup and am looking for some advice.   Does anyone use 19 strand wire instead of 7 strand?  Why or why not?  Do you have to use a swivel tip rod?  I'd like to set up a couple of wire diver rods but don't want to break the bank.  I fish out of Olcott maybe 3 or 4 weekends a year.  Am more interested in what guys are actually using than just what tackle manufacturers say i should have.   Thanks for any and all input!

Sure was fun this morning.  We did pretty well, slightly west of Olcott in 140-180.  Mostly spoons, Carbon 14 as well was hot this morning.

This evening has been even better.  110-150fow.  Everyone disappeared too early!

Seems like the fish are moving a little deeper.  I'll be back up this Friday.  If you're there let me know and we can communicate and share info.

How'd you end up doing? I got held up by kids putting toys down toilet...lol. Fished 3pm to 8pm, 150-175 FOW in front of the power plant. Went 3/7, ugh. Copper 300ft back with a wonder bread moonshine, seemed to work best.

We had 8 hookups by 9am just west of Olcott in 90 to 110 fow then the fish just disappeared.  Was thinking they might have gone to deeper water but I was having  a little engine trouble and didn't want to get too far from the marina.  Carbon 14 took 3 fish early before the sun got higher in the sky and we got 3 off of a meat rig set on the downrigger at 65ft.  Here are a few pics.   Check out the little guy that hit a spoon as big as he is.  Lol

  7. I'm coming up to Olcott/Newfane marina tomorrow afternoon and fishing until Sunday afternoon.   I just want to throw this out there.  I'm looking for some guys who might want to communicate during those days on the water.  I think I'm the perfect partner,  lol.  I don't enter tournaments,  I don't eat salmon so I only keep a few for friends that request some.  It's a big lake and its difficult to cover by yourself.  Especially when you only get out 3 or 4 weekends a year.  I have no problem letting someone know where I am, what I'm seeing on my graph and what I'm catching during the day.

I'm looking to team up with some guys who feel the same way.  Let me know by responding here.  Thanks...

  8. I fished out of Olcott this weekend.   Saturday we fished from the power plant east all day from 35fow out.  I even ran out to 400fow just for the heck of it, had a nice king on right away out there but lost it 15ft from the side of the boat.  Sunday got a tip to try the bar so we ran down there.  I have never seen so many huge bait balls in my life!!  All morning my screen was covered in bait with nice arcs all around.  110 to 130fow had 3 quick hookups and then things just shut down.  Managed a nice Laker at about 1:30 PM  but that was it.

All total in 2 days we could only muster 4 kings, 1 lake trout and 5 misses.  I'll be back up next weekend to try again.

I'm still learning this craft as this is only my 2nd year fishing for salmon but I am addicted.  What a rush when that rod goes off!!  I'll just keep trying, learning from successes and mistakes.  The experience is what it's all about...
