  1. Was out of Olcott yesterday afternoon. Picked up 2 medium fish on 4 hits, one on a white meat rig with soco bait, other on a silver backed spoon, white with green spots. Second fish hit while first one was being landed.

Screen blank most of day. Went 300-500, back on to 200, marked almost nothing except piles of fish on bottom from 200ft out.

Been out several times in last few days, when they are on screen, they're not biting... 3 fish in 3 outings between Olcott and Niagara bar... not the best [emoji53]

Appreciate the guy at dock giving some tips, big red boat. [emoji106]

Finally able to get a very good friend out fishing on the Big O. At 86 not many more days left to enjoy a day on the lake. Started straight out in 200 and trolled NW to 400 FOW. Turned and headed SE toward Olcott into 160 FOW. Been fishing Ontario for more than 35 years. Been skunked a number of times, but it was extremely disturbing that NO FISH showed on the screen. Have 2 units on board and used both thinking maybe one was just fuzzy. Trolled a distance overall about 12 miles in total. Seen one mark 55 down over 370. That was it. No boats out, seen only one other boat all day. No trailers at Wilson, 3 trailers at Olcott.
Something is definitely wrong with Ontario. This was a strange day on the water.  WOW, got me wondering whats out there.

  2. They have worked well for me but I had to modify hole for one of the meat head brands because they didn't fit. A little gentle bend is all you need, I've caught fish with them. Don't leave in sun though, the glue holding pattern tape seems to come loose or something and the decal can slide around. Also found they get kind of discolored, still catch fish. Have had 3 or four takers on a single bait and it's still running strong. I probably have 5 or 6, will keep using, but will likely try some of the non refrigerated real meat offerings before buying more of these.

I bought from fat Nancy, had one show up defective and they were real nice about sending a replacement out.

  3. Interesting. I think that chart assumes a speed of about 2.5 mph, but don't have it written down. Faster/slower will definitely change depth, as will currents and drag of lure behind diver.

I have a fish hawk td, and might be listing it after I get new down temp running well. I'll reach out if I see this is still open at that point in time.

Ebay has them up every now and then if you don't get one here quickly enough. I think the smart troll system would give you real time data at the lure, but that system isn't cheap and would be a much larger investment in getting that data in a lot of other scenarios.

  4. Glad to help! Enjoy the area, it has a lot to offer. Escarpment is pretty cool, but you've got Acadia so close by, I'm not sure there's much contesting that.

Walleye can be had on nearby erie as well. Smaller ones near windmills and CA line out of small boat harbor / erie basin marina, larger about an hour away out of Cattaraugus- sometimes one lake is whipped up and the other isn't too bad, depends on wind. Good perch fishing too.

Wherever you end up, be very careful with Canadian border waters. They're on lockdown - boating included, and they take the border shutdown very seriously

Thank you very much. I had over looked all of the above suggestions. I may bring my wife and both of us would enjoy seeing the falls. Also, walleye is a species that is on my list. Being from Maine I have never seen one. I have made up my mind, if I go to LO in two weeks I will try the Bar.

  5. Tons of marks at the bar yesterday around 60-100ft, had a hard time getting bites though, mornings seem best, just not able to get there early myself, managed a few shakers and a small king. Did better on Thursday with a nice mature, a 2yr and a small king in a few hours.

Niagara bar is nice if weather is bad as well because you can fish the Niagara river for some large walleye near red clay wall or if river is really bad (uncommon) you can see the fort, visit the American side of Niagara falls for not toooo far of a drive. River makes for a nice boat ride if nothing else. Something I've resorted to more than once when weather was questionable or if I've had little ones with me.

May and June can bring wind/storms, so it's nice to have a bad weather day backup plan close by when you're time constrained.
