  1. Great-ish night. Setup in 200 on a full screen and started trolling into em against a heavy west wind. Screen looked fantastic. Bait. Hooks. the whole 9. Finally got the program out. Fish were holding 80-90down in 54-57° water. Popped one on the rigger and that's actually when things went south. I realized my father was not going to be able to handle the rollers (3-4's). After a hectic landing we got him his biggest king ever. My son was extatic but I was very nervous as I thought my dad was gonna fall over. Took our pic, dismantled the giant lamprey ( also made my son happy ) and turned to troll with em. I finally made my turn and decided that it wasn't the night to grind it out in the chop. Pulled lines and took a nice cruise back. But, it's been a goal of mine to get 3 generations on the boat and bring in a king. Check. Fish came on the 90 rigger with a mountain dew / crushed paddle with a minion meat head.

On a side note, my minion meat heads are gonna need new hooks soon. I can't keep them in the water and they have brought me more kings this year than anything else. Glad I got turned on to them. Not affiliated at all, just wanna share that these things work ! Not sure why, but I get better hook sets than other heads. Seems they always have 3 trebles buried in them Vs the other brands I use. Look em up, u won't be disappointed. 84205.thumb.jpeg.c295b3ea5a28348ee73e9322e782b922.jpeg84210.thumb.jpeg.a7e54254f0e9d12b51a8ae6334e305e2.jpeg

  2. Got out solo from 3-6 tonight public launch at Sandy. I'm always reminded how awesome lake O can be and how much respect I need to pay her.. A mile from the launch I was only in 40 foot of water and the waves started turning white on top. The boat was bouncing all around and I was crawling north but I was determined to get to 100 feet. After forever I somehow got there. I only saw one other boat much further out. Only spoons today, I dropped a copper straight back and two dipsys on both sides. On about my third pass in rough water, my dipsy with the watermelon striker went off.. Somehow I managed to keep the fish out of the other lines.. I scrambled to get the net..waves were so big I almost fell... got the net stuck and quickly dropped to the floor, finally got it unhooked with my left hand and kept pressure on the fish with my right.. I really should have lost him since I must have bruised his face from stabbing at him three or four tries with the net.. When it was over the whole boat was a mess but I managed a selfie with this 9 lb steeley.. Lol that's my game face. Guess that made me 1 for 1 this afternoon with two nice fillets brining for the smoker. For record I marked many fish this afternoon from 100 to 150 and spotted a bunch of bait balls in the 130ft range. IMAG1665.jpg

  3. Probably a dozen boats out of Sandy already when I met my buddy at 6 am. Noticed right away waves were larger than I expected...The guy in this picture I know was a little sceptical about how our vessel would handle in the rollers. We made it to 100ft and set up 1 copper, and two dipsies . First fish came off bottom in 120ft on copper rig w blue and silver spoon.. Fish came off before we saw him though... Lip dragging we continued on. Ten minutes later, 120 ft depth, this 12 lb king took a watermelon stinger spoon about 75 feet down on our dipsy. Awesome high fives as we got this one in the boat! Guess that made us 1 for 2. Great trip. 19970.jpeg

  4. I like the last picture, makes me hungry. Much like Vanilla Ice, sometimes it’s time to go solo.

Great pics from up in the big CA! I fish on the south shore near Rochester NY but I also use a smoker, big chief lure Jensen. Any possibility you might share your brine recipe? Or any tips to achieve that final color! I usually brine mine in one quarter cup salt and sugar overnight...

  5. That’s got to fill you with pride? There are dam few people around that could build a boat by hand these days and even fewer that would not only complete it but use it as a daily driver. That’s great!! I do have a question.
How much trouble did you have getting your boat numbers???
I’d love to build a boat someday.

Thanks for kind words! To get the numbers you call sheriff office, they send inspector out to look it over and issue boat identification numbers.

Well you asked for it so here goes... I Built this boat in 2014. Took six months to complete and launch. Studied wooden boat magazine and you tube for a while and decided to try it for myself. Dimensions:14' 1/2 ft length, 6 foot beam. Five ribbings for skeleton frame constructed of oak. Chines and gunwales of maple. Transom of oak. Plywood from Lowe's 3/8". Covered in six ounces of fibreglass wet thoroughly with epoxy resin. All joints are screwed and glued w epoxy and stainless fasteners. Wood, fasteners, epoxy resin, and cloth all totalled around $800. The greater expenses really became the trailer and new Merc 9.9 which totalled another $3300. Still having launched this boat nearly a hundred voyages, the experiences and time have been completely worthwhile. Someday when I get tired of repairing it's aging hull, probably have a campfire and build a better one! 7. So my buddy and I took my plywood boat out of Sandy early. My buddy pulled this nice 4.5 brown at 715 am in 58 feet of water. Took him on a watermelon striker spoon down 50 ft on a dipsy.. Around 930 the down rigger went off and this nice 8lb Steeley put on a great acrobatic show before finally finding our net. The trout was landed in 70 ft of water 50ft down. That made us 2 for 2.Not bad for two guys running two or maybe three lines most Of The morning! We marked huge bait balls and many fish near them in the 50-60 foot range.
