Hey man, thanks for that.  I'm a data kind of guy so I appreciate it. Pretty interesting to see that Goby's are the main thing they eat by numbers in Oneida, but more walleye by weight.

I'm not sure the cormorants are the only source of the bad day we had. We saw lots of great suspended hooks in the Goldilocks zone for temp - they just had lockjaw. It happens. With the abundance of bait this year it might take a few trips to get dialed in. I'm looking forward to the challenge. Honestly, we've done mid-twenties numbers on kings in a single day and it was easy. Other days you really had to grind for one. That's fishing.

If there was a one single lure and technique solution that always worked tackle shops would be a lot smaller!

That's why I like this type of fishing. Every day is a new puzzle to work out. Even the slow days on the water are a gift. There's so much more to this sport than just catching fish. I think we all lose sight of that sometimes. Even on a bad day I always try to remind myself to enjoy the moment and reflect on how lucky I am to be able to do this.

  2. Sunday, I lost my father and best friend.  Fred G Giovagnoli. Freddie G, Lookin Good. I had the privilege to fish with him for 49 years.  We started in a John boat on Honeyoe and dragged it out by Webster pier as well.  Fished Hedges, Webster and the river piers.   Got a 16 foot bluefin named Lookin Good.  The thousands of hours on the water. The days launching in the bay on sand and ducking under the bridge.  Pushing the boat over sandbars in the fall. Old school, Applejack, Nolmois, Hoseman, and all the old guys.  Dragging the boat over the ice in-20 degree water to fish Ginna.  Combat fishing the river, perch in the Islands, tuna in the outerbanks.  The hours and the stories.  It can go on for ever.  Next time out with the family take a mental picture.  It’s well worth it.  I am putting some of his ashes in front of shipbuilders.  Need to get his boat up and running so I can take mom and sister out.  I ask one thing.  First trip out every spring. When the cool breeze turns a little warm, The browns are hitting and your one of the only boats out.  Raise your coffee mug,  or beverage of choice, and give a salute to the old man that was my father and best friend.  The laughter will never be forgotten.

    Amen!

  3. Rainbows on Cayuga this year have been both plentiful large and great fighters... client this young man landed one Sunday despite the roaring wind that would make any trout lover sing...have pretty much been able to rig up for salmon and bows and get them on board even Mid day ... temps on the lake went wacky with down temps in the high 50s as low as 85 feet took going 95 plus down to break 50... pulled a nice salmon down 90 and this rainbow down 80....amazing what wind and storms did to break up thermocline and scatter the fish...but this young man’s smile made me happy !! 4. I will work from home as long as I have a job. I will wear a mask if I have to buy groceries. I will (and did) reject my parents wishes to come over for Easter. I will be prudent and practical. However, I alone in my boat in the middle of the water imperils no one. I will not abide heavy-handed, disingenuous, and unconstitutional government dictates. The only thing keeping me off the water will be the weather.

    I like your reasoning bosco.....
