Best to show a photo of the entire back of the transom .... not a side shot. What's important is how close it is to hull features, and trim plates.
I was thinking the same thing. I'll get a better photo up. It's a pontoon boat and top speed is 17 mph..Thanks!

What you want is undisturbed water flow. The way they sit now there is turbulence of the water coming up from the bottom of the boat.
You should try to get them so that the lower surface is just a bit lower than the bottom of the boat. Looking at the picture, the small one has to come down something like an inch whereas the long (chirp) one should go down maybe half an inch.
Thanks Rolmops! The long transducer is a Mega side Mega down. I thought it has to be lower than the smaller one to avoid interference. Does this make a difference?

No the NE card will do inland and Lake O. If you want Lake Erie you need the Great Lakes card.
Rick, I'm limited to Owasco lake. Is there any benefit to go with the premium NE card?

Thanks! Appreciate it!👍🙂

With an older Minn Kota you needed an iPilot LINK, but all the new Quest trolling motors in the Terrova, Ulterra, and Ultrex will do it now. For a Humminbird you will need a "N" unit, which is an Networking unit. Add a Lakemaster mapping card and you're all set. Reach out to me with any questions about this set-up. I have it on my Lund and sell them at the marina. We have professional installers as well.

What minn kota TM and Hummingbird set up do I need to have a follow the contour option? Is it built in or do I need an accessory?

I only fish for perch in fall and in early spring. but yes I mostly use these whenever I go after perch. When the perch are out on the flats, the minimites work very good. When I fish in between weed beds or near steep drop offs I just try everything until I find what they like best. Another thing I catch a lot of perch on is the eyes of perch. After you catch one , you kill it, remove the eyes and stick one on a #6 or #8 hook.
You must always make sure that your bait moves around a bit, unless the school is in an open place between weedbeds. Then the perch usually hit the bait on the way down. When you get the first hit, just set the hook, but leave the line in the water and more often than not, some other perch will hit the other hooks
Thank you! Good info! I used to use perch eyes on Swedish pimples jigging for perch when ice fishing but that was 50 years ago and I had forgotten about using them...🤷♂️🙂

One of the things to be aware of is that often the larger the hook size the fewer hits when the perch are fussy which is "usually" They also don't seem to like exposed hook points.
Yes! Fish are smart! They travel in Schools!!😁

I use minimite plastic with a maggot on the hook. They imitate small shrimp which are a perch’s favorite food. The hooks are very small.
Rolmops, do you use this year round?

I use drop shot 2 hooks & hook minnows through back.
Thanks for sharing. Do you use #2 hooks or just 2 dropshot hooks of ? size?

cone isn't narrow enough. a basic 2d transducer 83/200 or 50/200 gives much better results.
chirp has it's place as well as side view but not for trolling. I run a basic 2d for trolling and another ff with chirp and dv and sv for sm and perch. JMO
Makes sense 🤔 I'll have my original helix 5 transducer left on the transom and I can use that for trolling if the one I posted doesn't work as well.... it would be nice to be able to use both at the same time and be able to compare? There'll be another transducer on the Ulterra Quest that will be available to use. It sounds Very Complicated!! 🤷♂️🙂

I would consider something else if your main fishing is trolling.
Why don't you like the above Transducer?🤷♂️

Yep sometimes you have to experiment when they are fussy it can help to go smaller hooks like 8's but then a lot of times the bait is easier to pull off without hook-ups especially with fatheads
🙂👍I can't wait for spring so we can do some fishing. It seems so far away!! How do you like to hook fatheads?
-
Thanks Sk8man! I usually fish for perch with fatheads. Just curious what hook size folks use. I used to use # 4 but lately I've switched to #6 & 8 gold Aberdeen....🙂

What size hook do you guys use for perch and is there a best way to rig??

Thanks again! 😎That was a screenshot from the helix 9 I was thinking about. 👍

Thanks for sharing! I'm curious about the dual spectrum Chirp. But it sounds like from what you're saying the MEGA down/side image will do both types of fishing.

What Hummingbird-Minn Kota Helix 9 transducer do you guys recommend for trolling, perch fishing and jigging for lake trout? The choices are,
Dual Spectrum Chirp or MEGA down/side imaging..
Transducer location?
in This Old Boat

I did lower the smaller one a half inch and tilted the SI-DI-duel spectrum so the back is slightly lower and that lowered it in the front slightly as well...🤞
Hope this helps... Thanks!
