I just purchased two of these rods. I have a lead core reel for one rod but no copper reel spooled yet. I do have another reel already spooled with 1000' of 7 strand wire line.
My questions are, could I use this rod as is for steel line, or does it need to be modified with either a twili tip or roller tip? The rod, as configured, has all stainless steel guides and tip.
My last question is, if I changed the rod to a twili tip, could it be used for both copper and steel line if I decided to spool a reel with copper? Thanks in advance for any advice. This site
has given me a lot of useful information.

Great photos. Glad the weather cooperated and you had some good fishing.

Copper John, thanks for the input. I'm looking to purchase one now.

Thanks for the replies. I went with two lead acid flooded batteries from O'Reilly Auto Parts. Appreciate all the input I got from this site.

Bluegiller, will the guides handle seven strand stainless steel wire or just copper line? I was looking for a wire diver rod with roller guides. I have several dipsy rods that I could modify with a twilli tip but I'm not sure if the guides could handle the 7 strand wire.

I really want to add a wire dipsy rod to my spread. I have the wire and a reel but can't find an 8-1/2 or 9' rod. Don't think I could handle anything larger when I fish solo. I hope the fishing improves and I can make it to Lake Ontario before you head back to Ohio. Looks like you might have some decent weather through early next week. Enjoy your vacation.

Way to go Dan! Great photo. How deep did you have to go to find the fish? I'm still working on the i-Pilot installation. Got the motor mounted but running into battery location problems. Didn't want to wait for several weeks to get it installed by a marina. Hope to have it up and running soon. Congrats on your catch.

Thanks for the reply. I was kind of thinking that way too. Any suggestions on brand of battery or whether to go sealed AGM gel or just regular wet cell batteries. There are so many brands out there. Thanks again.

What batteries would be best for a 24v. 80lb. thrust Minn Kota Terrova? Can't afford lithium. What are you guys using for the 12 volt batteries? Thanks.

Appreciate the info. Thanks

Just wondering about that. I've got two 1000' foot spools of 7 strand coming in the mail. Never used wire before, but anxious to give it a try.

Thanks. Was wondering on the dipsy divers. Do you use wire or braid?

Fished 6-12 on wavy lake with little boat . 100 to 400 and all water put about a foot of fleas on my 12lb test per hour .Next trip the heavy line and big reels will be on boat. Last release the fleas clogged the guides and before I noticed the gears broke in reel and lost fish. By the way , that was out of Oswego.
What brand and lb. test of line do you switch to on your riggers and dipsies to combat the fleas. Planning a trip in the next couple of weeks and want my rods ready. Thanks.

I'll take both spools. Will you take payment through PayPal? Thanks.

Thanks Greg. I'd like 8 of the red and 8 of the black. How much for the 16? Is your email for PayPal still [email protected]? As soon as I get the amount I'll send payment. Thanks.

Troubles, can these be reused, or are they single use only? Thanks.

Shortbus makes the triangle rotary flashers but they also make 11” paddles, check out their website. Big paddle flashers are a staple out on the west coast/Columbia river and also the ocean fishery with cut herring behind them. I run meat rigs behind the 11”ers. Behind the triangle rotary flashers u can run pretty much whatever u want (I like to run meat with no teasers). If u walleye fish try running the small rotary flasher directly off ur bottom bouncer rig with a worm harness or gambler rig behind it.
What colors on the 11" shortbus flashers have you had the best luck with? I bought some 11" blanks and have been putting my own tape variations on them.

Thanks, I'll tie some up with those colors and see how they look.

Here's a photo of the mooneye fly from the A-TOM-MIK website.

Nice pics. Glad you've had several good days on the water.

Awesome offer. I'm sure you didn't have to wait long to fill the seats. Hope you catch a few.

Making up some trolling flies and wondering if anyone has the recipe for the A-TOM-MIK Mooneye fly. It looks like standard cut black, possibly crinkle green, but not sure of the other colors. Thanks

Yes 20 with spoons and 40 -50 for flies. I make my own flies and on them usually 50 lb Big game mono (strong enough for big hits yet having a bit of stretch to absorb shock)
I'm getting ready to tie up some tournament fly rigs and wondering what size hooks you use on your rigs. I have both 4/0 & 5/0 Gamakatsu octopus for the single hooks but still trying to decide on the trebles. Thinking about #1 or 1/0 VMC 9651 short shank or Owner ST-41. Also, do you think it matters what the color of the trailing treble hook is? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Nice photo. That's the way to spend a cool spring day. Your efforts paid off.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll keep one unmodified and I'll put a twili tip on the other.
