  1. I am a recreational salmon fisherman out of the Port of Rochester.  It is time for an upgrade to my fish finding electronics.  I am a big fan of the Garmin products.  On some post I saw in the past it looked like you were connected to the Garmin product line.  I was wondering if you would be open to recommending the best system for the type of trolling we do?  Unit, transducers, etc.  Thanks.

Is the Panoptix the way to go?  If so, what is the learning curve?

Is the PS30 the transducer to buy?

What if I wanted a larger screen?

First of all, thanks for replying.  I am sure you are a busy guy this time of year.

I fish a 1991 Tiara 3100 Open.  I have a Garmin 2006C gps mounted in the dash.  This will stay but I would like the new head unit to also have GPS.  I have a 6 inch color Raymarine "fish finder" that uses a thru hull transducer.  This is the unit I want to replace.  No room to flush mount whatever we choose.  Not looking forward to pulling out the thru hull.  I would like the new head unit to be able display traditional sonar (high and low frequency).  I would like it to be able to "zoom" the top 200 feet of the water column when fishing out deep.  I do not have  radar or an autopilot and am not planning to add them.  I am interested in Garmin's Panoptix.

The boat I tow to Florida (I am retired) is equipped with Garmin's GPSMAP 8612.   I like the touch screen.  99% of my fishing up here is trolling.  Looking forward to your thoughts and recommendations.
