  1. First off, hull speed on your boat is about 6.7 mph, so anything beyond that the boat is planning. But you lack the hp to push it faster. I seriously doubt that twin 8 hp motors pushed it any faster than what your already seeing. And I don't think adding hydrofoils is going to do much else.

The one thing that may help is making sure your cavitation plate is even with the bottom of your bloat. If its below, see if you can raise them up a hole or two.

But overall, your simply under powered.

  2. Ok. There are a few good posts over on The Hull Truth about the AP11. Alot of people seem to like them for trolling.

They have a compass mode and gps mode. They also have a high speed mode and low speed mode. If its in compass mode, you have to manually select low speed.

  3. I know some older AP's can loose their heading at slow speeds. Not sure if the AP11 is in that category.

My "compass" is a puck which is down in my cabin. I have a Simrad AP35.

Was the AP on the boat when you bought it? Do you know if the previous owner had an issue trolling with it?

  4. I know guys who run a 5' section of mono between colors on leadcore line, so they can attach it to boards at different lengths. I agree with whats said above, that it sounds like a pain, introduces multiple failure points, and can easily be solved with adding some weight.

  5. I thought the same thing about Cat's catching air, but there are two 34' Baha Cat's in Ashtabula on Lake Erie run by charters that I know. They are some really stable fishing machines. And when we get hit with those snotty short period waves we get on Erie, they have no problem going out and keeping pace with my 36' Tiara Open. They do look uncomfortable in a beam sea though...

  6. How I have handled this is if you have two reels to do, do the first reel backwards (put the weighted steel on first, then fill with the 50 lbs braid).

Then transfer onto the second reel keeping track on the counter how much braid goes on.

Then fill the second reel using the same amount of braid and then the weighted steel.

  7. I went with heavier boards that pull harder and run my rod tips above the toe line. That's addressed my problems with boards on my last three boats.

My boards are 32" long with four 2' 1/2" allthread connecting them. Nice and heavy. Pull well and keep slack out of the line. I put pool noodles on the top sections of Allthread for flotation / visibility. I also run Great Lakes Planer plus 4' trees just in front of my windshield. Rod tips run above the toe line.

    That setup really works great.

  8. If you had to pick ONE gun what would it be ?
My Left Handed Remmington 700 BDL 30-06. It'll kill anything in North America and has had its fair share of deer, bear, and coyote.

I like that gun soo much, a few years ago I had it completely disassembled, cleaned, reblued, reassembled and fitted with a brand new Leopold scope. That should get me another 25 years out of it.

  9. My friend had a Simrad AP44 on his 25' Grady with twin ob's. He now has a Simrad AP44 on his 30' Cherokee. I have an older Simrad on my Tiara (inboards). Most people I know with Simrad AP's really like them.

I know Garmin also makes good electronics, including AP's, but I can't recommend a specific model.

But what you need to make sure of is that what ever make / model you choose, that it will hold a course at trolling speeds.

Another friend spent good $$ on a Raymarine AP that wouldn't hold course under 2 mph. That didnt work very well for walleye trolling.
