  1. Save the Date! April 20, 2024, we'll be holding our annual Bob Groeling Memorial Perch Tournament (formerly Seager Marine Spring Perch Tournament). Entry fee bumped up to $60/team this year (all still goes into the pot), up to 3 people per team, weigh 5 fish. Registration form and rules will be attached here when ready. We plan to set it up so you can register from our website (not set yet). Better yet, stop in and see us in our showroom at our 21 Parrish St location or call us with credit card info. Hope you all can make it. It's a great way to start the spring fishing season. I'm guessing with the weather we've been having, you've all been out a few times already!
  2. It's already that time of year again! Seager Marine is holding its annual fall perch tournament on 10/14/23. We are doing it a little different this fall. We are partnering with Doc's Tackle and you have the choice of fishing only the Seager Marine Tournament (same prizes and plaques as always) or you can enter a series of 3 and be in on additional prizes for the series winner, based on combined weights from all three tournaments. The second one will be on Irondequoit Bay on 10/22/23 and the third one will be on Cayuga lake on 11/12/23. Entry fee for each tournament will be $60/team, up to 3 people per team, weigh 5 fish. Info sheet is attached. If you want to fish the series, you must be registered for all three events by 10/13/23. We plan to set it up so you can register from our website (not set yet). Better yet, stop in and see us in our showroom at our 21 Parrish St location, call us with credit card info, or visit Doc's Tackle. Hope you all can make it. It's a great way to enjoy the lake now that things have quieted down out there. Perch Flyer Fall 2023 Jen.pdf
  3. Been a busy summer. Last time I got out out was July due to many different reasons. Game plan was to target rainbows. Ended up 6 for 9 with 3 rainbows and 3 Lakers. All fish released. Two of the bigger bows looked skinny. Lakers were smaller. Had a couple leadcores out, 2 dipsy rods and 2 riggers. Eventually ditched flasher fly bc fish seemed to want spoons. Fleas weren't bad.

    Canandaigua 7/8

On the water at 8 AM. Trolled south from Onanda to Cook then crossed over and headed north. Best action was on the East side. Went 2 for 5. Green flasher fly and Orange Gold spoon.

    Canandaigua 7/1

Got out with a friend of my boy and his Dad on Sat. Fished about 745 to 1045ish before the idiots usually come out. Went 7 for 9 with 5 bows and 2 Lakers. Best 2 fish caught was a 9 lb laker and a 4.25 lb bow. Ended up being my boys friend's biggest fish ever ...his pb was a big carp before. The dad reeled in the bigger rainbow. Was caught off guard when a laker bit the 3 color leadcore rod when surface temp was around 70. Didn't use fishhawk today. Got lucky.

    Canandaigua Cdga 5/5

Got out for a solo trip yesterday. Trolled west shore from drop off area in Woodville up to Bristol Harbor area looking for rainbows. Ran rigger around 40' down with cheater 20ish along with 2 mono flat lines out each side with planers. Ended up catching 3 14-18" bows. They lived to see another day. Changed up colors as I went. Got 2 on stinger standard spoons and 1 on a black and silver smithwick. Good to be out after crappy week of weather.
  7. troutman10

    Canandaigua 5/27

Had a rod down about 60' for Lakers and targeted rainbows with the other 5 rods. Went 6 for 8. Brought 4 rainbows and 2 Lakers to the boat. Two fish lost were rainbows as well. Lakers bit gambler rig with spin dr and bows bit various bright colored spoons. The boy was loving it.
  8. troutman10

    Canandaigua Cdga 5/8

Trolled around looking for Rainbows again. Fished west side from Tichenor Pt south. Went 2/4. One of the fish missed was a good sized rainbow and assuming a good sized laker that was staying deep. Fish came on stinger spoon and a warrior spoon. Depths were 20-50' down and down speed was 2.5-3 mph and down temp around 45 on the fish hawk. Surface temp around 48-50. Bigger rainbow was 4.5 lbs and around 23".

  12. Is anyone having any luck catching crappie or any other pan fish on canandaigua. I am going to try for some this afternoon/evening and am trying to see how people have been doing.
  13. Day 1 we launched at 445am with Jeremy and my Father in-law, lines were in at 5am sharp. We setup in 150 fow west side and noticed fish were up high! 50 degree temp break was 47 feet down. Didn’t mark a ton of bait 80 foot torpedo weighted steel brought in bring 3 bows and 1 miss. Can’t tell you how much I love weighted steel! Such a great product! No tangles and super durable. 5 color brought in 2 lakers no bows. Riggers at 47 we’re also hot bring in 1 bow and a handful of of lakers Ran gamblers with a UV 2 face and alien glow with green and yellow bells brought a handful of fish. The 6.5lb laker Jeremy caught that was on the board for a few hours was caught on the UV2 Face in 120 fow on the bottom Dipsy set at 2 at 125 with a glo green jeans flasher and glow green spin n glo brought up a nice laker but nothing else on that setup. Back at the dock by 11am sine Jeremy had to work in the after noon! Day 2 My awesome wife Erika and I launched at 5am on the dot and had rods in quick in 70 fow east side thanks to some intel from a buddy. Riggers were set 47 foot down . Used the northern king bloody nose glow and green dot glow that I charged for about 1 min before they went down had us doubled up before we could set the 80 weighted steel. Brought in a nice 8lb laker and a 6lb laker. marked a lot of bait on the east side in 60 to 70 fow! Temp Break at 50 was only 40 feet down. The west side was yesterday was 47 feet down. 5 color was hot with the blue gold UV and blue silver UV colors on some prototype spoons I can’t share. They pulled in about 5 decent sized lakers through the day. 80 weighted steel down 15 was hot on the brown trout orange cup (also a prototypes) and so did the white and blue and orange alewife. Swapped out to the silver DW mag and that took 2 bows the brown trout also took about 3, chin music took 2 Riggers were the quietest today and landed 2 lakers. The bows wanted to play today and the 3 color was hot. I should of put the 3 colors of the 5 color rod out the back of the boat most of the day because as soon as I did that for the last hour and picked up 2 more. back at the dock by 11am Best 2 day depth was 70 fow on the east side at 2.3 mph Last year the Canandaigua Derby was my first non FLTA competitive fishing tournament and In 2 days of fishing I only landed like 3 fish. It was humbling and really lit a fire in me to figure out other ways to catch fish outside just using riggers. This year with led core, weight steel and divers we boated easy 30 fish. Thanks to Dan P and Brett Curtis for sharing intel through out the weekend.
  14. 85% of me is looking forward to the derby in a few weeks! The other 15% hates all the boat pressure on one of my favorite fingerlakes! Who’s going?

  16. It was quite a day for a lot of the folks today. We had several boats come in with 6+ pounds total for the 5 perch. First place was 6.67#, 2nd was 6.61#, 3rd was 6.51#, and 4th was 6.49#. Biggest perch was 1.81#. It was great to see such a great turnout and see everyone at the weigh-in. See you all in the fall!

    Canandaigua Canandaigua 9/1

After Dan’s last report on Canandaigua I couldn’t resist taking a morning off with my oldest to target some silvers. Met Dan at the launch at 530am and strategized quick to check if the east or west side was marking bait. Thanks for the westside tip as I never fish there with any luck. I didn’t mark much on the east side so we zipped over to the water treatment plant on the west side and we marked a ton of bait all the way south to menteth point. we target just silvers at first and lost 2 right at the boat immediately at 50ft on the riggers use glow spoons. We then had to more releases that blanked. Then we had a big strike on the 10 color with a copper Uv custom spoon from reel rage. Saw it jump 300 feet back and worked hard to get him in the boat. We also got a few lakers in the upper column on spoons on 10 colors. about 9am we slowed down to 1.7 and dropped the riggers tight to the bottom at 120 and picked up a triple (2 on the rigger and one on 10 color) on lakers. Until 10am we had a steady flow of lakers with one being over 10lbs. Thanks Dan for all the tips it made for a fun morning!
  18. Targeting RT, solo, fished east side, heading south starting at the old boat house. Not many marks or bait. Crossed over the the west side near Menteth point, much better screen. Temperature break around 55 feet. Caught two RT and one LT, lost a couple that I suspect where RT. Saturday went out with my son again looking for RT. Headed straight for the west side, started at water treatment plant trolling g south. Got 4 RT and two LT. Not much size to any of the RT either day. Although my son reeled in this nice 12 pound 33” LT which he was super excited about.
  19. My buddies and I had plans to hit up lake O out of iBay to try some night bite action but again the forecast was wrong and the lake never died down. Instead we decided to try our luck on the north end of Canadaigua. I typically have no luck at night on the finger lakes so expectations were low but the beer was cold. Got lines in at 645pm right at the 100fow mark in the middle of the lake and followed that ridge all the way to the east side boating 2 lakers on watermelon spin n glos. Once the sun set behind the hills the green glo spin n glo got hot bringing in 3 more including this 12.56lb beauty that took almost 12min to get in the boat. (I will post the video on my YouTube at some point)

    Canandaigua Canandaigua 5/23

Trolled south end, 6:00-11:00. 1 for 3 on bows. Landed 23”, lost big one by the boat, put on quite the show, leapt a couple feet up about 15 feet behind the boat, then broke the line after wrapping around a rigger cable, should have pulled it up. 2 of them came on 100 copper, 1 on 200 copper. Pink and watermelon spoons were the color, they wouldn’t touch all silver today. Picked up 1 LT on our deepest rigger set at 55ft. Great morning to be out there before the rain came in.

    Canandaigua Canandaigua 5/7

Skipped work, solo trip, toured whole lake from north to south. Surface water temps: 43.6 north end 44.2 deep run 45.6 menteth point 46.4 bristol harbor 49.1 south end Took a quick look at each stop. Charted practically no fish in colder temps. At south end in warmer water charted lots up high in the water. Dropped lines there, kept them high, above lakers. Two small bows was all I could pick up. One on 100 copper, other one on rigger 20 feet down. Both on silver spoons. Beautiful morning to be on a quiet lake!

    Canandaigua Abandoned boat

Found early this morning in front of Bristol harbor in middle. Towing over to docks at Bristol harbor. Cops on there way. Hope no one was in it.
  23. We launched out of Woodville at 5 am with plans of running north to whiskey point. A little late and calm water changed my mind at dock. Set up as soon as we hit 20fow with a top line, 3 color, 5 color, 100 steel, 200 copper, 300 copper, downrigger, and 2 braided steel twilley rods as soon as we hit 100fow. North troll up the east shore. 6lb. and 5lb. Lakers came on a spiny and Duke fly. ( Thanks Mike) 1lb.9oz rainbow came on cheater/slider yellow blue dot spoon on downrigger. 5lb. 8oz rainbow came on a real rage watermelon spoon (Thanks Scott) 3 color core. Figured I needed one more good laker to weigh. Pulled one twilley rod and put out a old fashioned rig rod dragging bottom with a 50 sutton as bottom spoon. Caught (4) 2-21/2 lb. lakers in 40 minutes. Changed 50 to an 88. Never caught another laker. Managed to finish 4th among the monster fish brought to the weigh in. Rookie mate Kasey in pics. Congratulations to John Wild on the win.
  24. Last Night I was on the fence with the rain and gusty wind forecast but I am glad I went! Right off the bat we caught a 8lb 7oz brown on the planers right off the drop off of the south end. We stayed there for another hour with no luck and switched to a deeper program and went up the east Side and marked a good amount of baitfish but no takers. We shuttled across the lake just south of Bristol harbor, headed south and put the cowbells with some homade spin n glos at 102 on the riggers and bumped the bottom and picked up a near 6lb 5oz Laker. About 15 min later another hit and as we got the fish to the boat I jerked the line with my hand to get it in the net and it jumped off. Yeah I am grounded.. aways great to catch fish on your own spin n glos. Blue, green and watermelon were the hottest.
