  1. Canandaigua Perch Tournaments Save the Dates! - Seager Marine will be holding 2 Spring Perch Tournaments this year on Canandaigua Lake. The first will be on April 1st and the second will be on April 29th. These will be team tournaments (1 to 3 person). Entry fee will be $40/team. Watch our website for details and registration forms or stop in the marina Tuesday through Saturday. Let's hope this weather breaks after the usual late winter snow storm!
  2. Anyone know if anything is going on at Onanda Park on Canandaigua? Hi guys! It's looking like it will be a nice weekend, and I'm wondering if there's any action down at Onanda Park on Canandaigua. No boat or kayaks for us yet this season, but we were thinking of doing some shore fishing this weekend from their pier that gets in to some fairly deep water. We're hoping to get lucky and maybe hit some trout in shallow and if not maybe just some perch. Any thoughts or ideas? Thank you for your help!
  3. Can anyone give a report on the state launches at Canandaigua and Seneca lakes? I see that the water level is way down and I am concerned about being able to launch and load without 1 getting the trailer backed in over the cement ramp and 2 the outlet depth to get to the lake. Thanks
  4. I'm going to try one last time this year for rainbows at canandaigua and was looking for pointers, I've tried everything I can think of and am stumped. I launch out of woodville

    Canandaigua FLTA 5/1

Congratulations to all at Canadaigua that caught fish. Brent C. had a phenomenal bag with a big 6-11 bow and the lunker laker that tipped the scales at just over 11lbs. Josh B. and Mike B. rounded out the top three. Great fishing guys! We started out on the south end marking a nice pod of bait in 75' of water. besides that the screen was blank in shallow and out deep. Decided to try the south end a bit longer and even the chute but only marked a few fish deep. I post this because this is our first skunk at a FLTA event, sometimes you are the windshield sometimes you are the bug, this weekend we were the bug! Jim T had a beauty of a laker that looked like 15lb fish but tipped the scales at 10-14, beauty Jim! Lots of beautiful bows weighed in and a nice brown or two. Keuka next!
  6. Seager Marine will be holding 2 Spring Perch Tournaments this year on Canandaigua Lake. The first will be on April 2nd and the second will be on April 30th. These will be team tournaments (1 to 3 person). Entry fee will be $40/team. Watch our website for details and registration forms. Let's hope this weather continues and the perch fishing is as good as it was last Fall!!
  7. May be interested in docking my 15' aluminum boat in Woodville this year so I can just jump in and go. Anyone know how much docking for the year costs at Smith Boys? I have called and e-mailed but no response yet. Thanks!
  8. Started a little later yesterday than normal with the full moon coming. Trolled for the first part of the trip with modest results at best. Couple Lakers up to 7lbs as well as a couple bows and one small mouth. Switched over to laker jigging and that stayed relatively slow too. Started in 85 fow and not long after one of the guys sets the hook into a 9" perch right on the bottom. I moved us into 70 fow and threw a jig off the bow and about ten feet from the boat on the retrieve I got the strike. Line instantly went out and to the side. Knew it wasn't a laker. Didn't take long to break the water. Fish took several spectacular leaps and several runs. After many attempts to net the fish we finally got her. Dumped her back in and she took right off.
  9. I wanted to give the Lake another GO....due to the fact my last 3 trips were skunked out and it took too long to get the Fleas off my equipment. Off to the SE side and throw in the Seth Greens ( yes,,some of us Still fish that way!) and had a screen full of bait and fish .100 FOW on the edge to 120...screen gets MT once I venture towards the middle of the Lake...The fish do not seem to suspend like they used to,,,they seem more into structure and such. Before the sun got over the East hill I had a 24" laker up to where I had picked up the net,..he shook his head and did that crazy spin move and the spoon whizzed past my ear! oopps! Not a great way to start but hey,,,,I just started! I went on up the East side and over to the West side by Cooks and Long Pt..I pulled a nice laker off the structure 110 FOW...There were a bunch on the drop,...He made the net..! I made a wide swing back through ,,no hits,..and kept trolling south as the wind was kicking up, 20 min later I hit another laker,,same size,...I would have thrown it back but he was bleeding all over and did not look like he would make it.So,..2 in the box off the deep line. The rainbow line lay silent for the duration,,,surface temp 68 . Once I came in,,the kid doing boat check was nice enough to take a pic for me...and thus ends the season as Archery is closing in.. Beautiful morning on the lake,,,few boats out...good green water,,,weeds not bad but still had light fleas all over,..but manageable.Tight Lines to all!
  10. Starting at 745-sh,on the East side,..the duck weed and floating grasses/weeds made me divert to the west side for the NB troll. 68 surface temp...decent amount of marks right on bottom 100-125' FOW No hitters as I had the big boy sinker bumping right thru'em. Up past Cooks point I stayed 95-100 on the drop-offs and marked alot of bottom huggers in groups and few few 45-50 suspended fish...only saw a small group of bait 25 fow off Cooks. No strikes,..side pole and Float with 5 deep ..4 on top. Pulling the heavy line in first,..it felt like I had a towel hanging of a leader. Once I had most of the topline in,..125'..here was the problem...Tons of fleas...! Talk about a task to clear this junk off tiny Seven strand wire ( like 10 lb mono) The Dacron on the float,,,not as bad,,but still a pain,... 2nd trip of the year,..no Bite.!!....Nice view of Bear hill at Vine Valley,..but that's all! Maybe sit this one out till August,..they may thin out by then,..hopefully!! RK By the way,,the 1st mile was a bit murky/muddy from all the stinkin Rain...it cleared up to green water past Cooks Pt.
  11. On 7/07 I was out with a grandfather and grandson on a half day trip. We were crossing the lake about 1/3 of the way down when I see a sailboat coming across my stern. He and I were about the only two boats within miles of each other. He proceeded to turn after crossing over the top of my lines and followd directly behind me. As he picked up speed he began to overtake me on the starboard side in-between myself and the west shore heading south. We hit some weeds with the boards on the port side and as I'm watching them the sailboater takes a sharp left turn right in front of me! Luckily I caught him out of the corner of my eye. I had to throw the kicker into hard reverse and he may have missed be by an inch if i'm lucky. As he coasts in front of me and I feel were clear I ask him from maybe four feet away "what the heck are you doing"? He looks over at me and responds.. "Oh sorry thought I had more room" very casually. If there wasn't an 11yr old on board I'm sure it would have been much more heated. I can't help but think that he did this on purpose the more I think about it. Anyway he was is a solid blue hull maybe 18-20 sailboat. I'm just curious if anyone else has ever had a run in with this boat or is he really just that stupid!

    Canandaigua Canandaigua 7/6

Got out for a few hours today. Fished north end, east side from drop off to Pelican and stayed between 80' and 100' contours. Found 1 8.5# rainbow down 68' over 100 fow. Only used riggers and had no problem with weeds or fleas. Marked several bait pods down about 50'. Traffic picked up by noon so I quit.
  13. Good day early, fairly light boat traffic and jiiged Lakers for a couple hours. Got fish of all sizes from 16" up to the low 30's. Picked up a couple guys at 2:30 and went back to jigging without much succes so decided to troll at about 4:00 and had pretty steady action over the next two hours with a mix of Bows and Lakers. Bows all came on small sticks and lakers were a spoon bite down 50-60ft. Danny Wegman was drifting in his Gucci boat right on my contour line so we cut in shallower and hit a spectacular air bound bow right of his stearn. The first two jumps really got their attention followed by a standing ovation when the bow hit the net. Water clarity is still poor and debris was not easy to fish through. Mostly small sticks and weeds but there was some bigger branches as well.

    Canandaigua 10/1 & 10/2

Got out for a couple hours each day, late afternoon. Fish weren't biting, but the good news is that the fleas and grass were not bad. Fleas that I did get were the lighter colored variety that could be flicked easily. I marked pretty good with bait and fish, mostly at the 60 foot depth over 60 to 100 fow. Fished from the pump house down to Tichenor and a little farther south, mostly west side. Good marks right off the point at Tichenor. Not sure what the approaching cold front and winds will do for the weekend fishing. Hopefully things will settle down for the FLTA group on Sunday. Good luck to all! Reminder - the Seager Marine Tournament on Saturday (10/4) has been canceled.
  15. Got out at about 7:30 am to a strong unexpected south wind. Had a father/son with me for a half day. I mentioned with the heavy weeds and flees we would probably jig most of the morning and the son said "oh no I'm not any good at jigging". Headed about half way down the lake and tucked in behind long point and started dropping in about 60 fow. Ten minutes in and and he had his first of many lakers on. About fifteen minutes later he was hooked up again with a nice 6lbr. Action slowed a bit and we headed over to Menteeth point and he hooked another laker. So at this point it's Erik with three nice lakers and his father with 0. Wind seemed to die right out so I headed to my favorite place to fish this time of the year. Erik's father said all they needed to do is get a double and they would have the 5 fish they were hoping for and I swear it couldn't have been 3 minutes later and they were doubled up with an 8 and 5lbr. Landed both of those and then things got crazy with non stop action and Erik lands a solid 12+lb laker that was released. A few minutes later his father gets a hit right at the boat and brings in a nice bow on my favorite tube. They did a great job taking pics and I waited for them to post.
  16. Sorry - but the Seager Marine Fall Fishing Tournament has been canceled. There were very few entries received and Saturday's weather doesn't look promising for same-day sign-ups. Good luck to those fishing the FLTA tournament on Sunday!

    Canandaigua 9/24 & 9/25

Got out for a couple hours each day. Started in front of the pump house on Wednesday and had a clean screen so we picked up and headed right to Tichenor. Marked some good fish right off the point in 60-70 fow near the bottom. Just kept at them and finally got a 20'' laker to hit on a Yozuri stick bait. That was all we could do. Didn't have much time today so I stayed right near the pump house. There were some good bait pods and a few fish in that 60 foot range in 60 - 80 fow but they had lock jaw. Fleas are still pretty bad. Surface temp is at 66. Hoping that cooler nights will bring that down and clear the fleas as well. I should get out again next week so I can let folks know what's happening so they can get ready for the Seager Marine tournament on Oct 4th!

    Canandaigua 9/17

Tried again for a couple hours this afternoon from 4 - 6. I stayed in front of the pump house and trolled east - west. Marked some bait and fish and picked up 2 quick lakers right after I started. First one was 3# or so and the 2nd one was 9#. He really wanted to stay down there! Only used riggers and fish hit with 60' of cable. Both were on FLT spoons, the Wonderbread and the Bright N Early. Fleas are still really bad. Beautiful late afternoon on the water though.
  19. Seager Marine is hosting a Fall Fishing Tournament on Saturday, October 4, 2014. There will be 3 divisions (trout, perch, and bass). Top weight in each division will win a $100 gift card from Seager Marine plus 1/3 the proceeds. Entry fee is $20. Details and registration forms can found at Seager Marine website - Seagermarine.com. Fall is a great time for fishing on Canandaigua Lake and the scenery is awesome! Come on out and get in on the fun.
  20. Sounds like an exotic get away...right.? Lemme tell you what,,..there were some weeds coming outa that south end with the south breeze...! Man! One was big enough,... if the Town of Canadaigua saw it,..they would try and charge taxes on it!! This thing was easy 20'long and 8' wide....thick and stringy. Well..that set up a slalom course of a troll for sure,..I tried to start at White Rock,..SE cornor of the Lake,..but that was the Worst spot to go.. ..so I found out,... But I kept it steady to the North to Whiskey Point,..Picked up a nice dinner bow on the side pole Sutton 61...little guy lure..100 TL 30oz..2nd lead down..using my highly questionable math,...bout 60' down. Now that my Merc has double mulched half the weeds in the lake,..I pull a hard left for the west side....Screen goes blank with the exceptin of some schools of bait 20-30' over 175.... With the wind going into overdrive...I had to aim more south...(I did not want to see the beach at the N end !) and picked up another 18" bow on the float this time..2nd lead down,..50'TL 20 oz.....using my really poor math again,,..throw the dart out there,,,mmmm bout 45' down Then the jets ski's and ski boats started showing up,..the wind dropped off for a bit,..and I hit the s end launch with out too much traffic 12;30... Heres a pic of the weeds,...Not like you haven't seen em,..jeez..!just passing clean of my wire rig- Good luck..Tight Lines
  21. I made the first run this year,..too busy with life!!...Launched at our wonderful 2 dock ramp and tooled up to Cooks Pt and dropped in the old standard,...float with 26oz 4 leaders....sidepole wire w 32oz.5 leaders...Surface temp was 68,..water had a slight Tea color from all the rain I am guessing.... The marks were on 100-110' deep..Most fish huggin bottom,...The middle of the lake was blank and I do not go shallower than 100' or I have the Chinese fire-drill getting the rigs off the rocks/mud ect...Ran North to the condos.....I picked up a small laker,..side pole 100' top line on the bottom lure.....Gold Miller 7...guessing he was down 100'...later I picked up a stocker brown,...all of 10 inches..! I am crushing the toads today.! Swung back south at the 2nd sighting of a jet-ski...called it in noon... All in all it was a perfect day on the water,...I had 2 gents inside of me ...looked like they were pulling copper,..they said they had 4 ..one 30"...before 930am.Good day to fish,..few fleas..few boats.! Go Get em,.. I will enter my modest catches ( and releases ) in my DEC diary and hope they misplace it.!! R K
  22. Does anybody know of any cabins that rent by the day or week on Canandiagua ? My buddy and I are looking for a spot next fall, dock and launch would be great but willing to daily launch at Woodville. Also any marinas that would have bait, gas etc. Thanks - Lobster

    Canandaigua canandaigua

Fished out of woodville 9:30 to 3:00 today with a buddy. We ran 6 lines on riggers ranging from 40' to 70' with mostly green/silver/white colored spoons. We picked up a 5.2 lb rainbow about 10:30 down 59' and had a couple of other releases with nothing to show for. After 12:00 we got into the lakers picking up 5, the largest right at 5 lbs. most fish were caught trolling the mile north from white rock on east shore. We had no releases trolling south on the east shore. 1 laker caught on west shore trolling south. 3 lakers were on the 60' to 70' lines, 2 of them on the 40'. Fish and bait were inside the 100 fow contour. Catch rate was acceptable for us giving the time of day we were forced to fish, trailering in from the west. In hindsight we should have spent less time trolling south on the east shore after we picked up on the trend....water fleas were present and a slight nuisance.
  24. Was out in the afternoon. Nothing down the west side to Tichnor Point. Cross over to east side. Pick up three nice lakers 3-5#s up around the Dragon wall. I was using a silver copper backed Sutton 44 with a green tape on the silver. Running in 85-77ft of water rigger at 80ft. Doing 2.8 to 3.0mph. Marked a few bait pods around some smelt and some sawbellies. Fish were sitting on the bottom. Took them right home and had them curling on the grill in an hour. Yumm.
