We had a decent afternoon today. We went 4/5 on lakers 3 on Hooked Custom Spoons and one on flasher and homemade Fly. -
The cotton was too heavy to troll my favorite runs. Found some clean water just south of Long Point and stayed on it all Friday and Sat morning. Shallow program again in 35 to 45 fow with surface temps 55 and 54 each morning. Boated a mixed bag of lakers, salmon, browns and bows. 33 on Friday, 21 Sat. Hottest lure was a silver streak green alewife on the slide divers and riggers, but largest fish were taken on the inline boards running J-7 jointed black and silver rapalas. Best fish an 11-4 brown we couldn't release, but put the 10 pounder back in the pond. -
Strong, NNW winds in the morning gave us second thoughts, but we gave it a go. Still running a shallow program in 20 to 25 fow. Because of the wind we found surface temperatures fluctuating from 48 to 56. 23 fish boated throughout the day. Mostly lakers, a couple good ones, 4 short salmon and took a nice bow off the inline board with a J-7 jointed brown trout in the evening as the lake laid down. 8lbs 8ozs. -
Is there an afternoon or evening bite? Coming on a Sunday in the next 2 weeks or is it a waste of time? Figure I'll get there at noon and fish until about dark. Thanks! -
Fairly new to lake trout fishing as I live in NYC. However, I'm planning to do some laker jigging this coming Memorial Day weekend on Cayuga lake, and was hoping for some guidance on the laker fishing this time of year. I fish from a kayak, so my range is limited to a mile or two from where I launch. I was planning to fish out of Dean's cove due to proximity to where I'm staying, and wanted to know if good laker fishing can be found in that area, or if I should focus more south like Taughannock. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! -
Took my son (right) and his friend Adam (left) fishing on Friday hoping to get Adam into a large fish as he's only been out fishing once in his lifetime. Launched out of Deans. What started out promising with a number of marks on the fishfinder, though the fish seemed to be very deep, couldn't get anything to hit. Set up 5 rods- 2 riggers, 2 dipsy divers, and one planner board with mix of spoons and flasher/flies set from surface down to about 80ft. Fished in 200-250 foot range mostly and couldn't get a rod to move. With time running out, snacks running low, and it being very HOT with little wind, the kids still did not complain though I know it was getting to them. I decided to go towards shallower water and set one of the riggers down to 135 foot. Just when we decided to call it a day (hard for me because I've never been skunked on Cayuga) that rigger released. Gave the rod to Adam who started cranking on the reel but that laker didn't want to move. Finally got him to the surface and my son Ryan did a great job of netting the fish (he has more fun netting the fish then catching them). Anyway, it was a great way to end the day and these two kids never complained despite the heat and no electronics! Hats off to them! The fish hit a blue aqua spin doctor and fly. And a great thank you to a very nice gentleman at the launch(think his name was Tom) for taking that picture and sending it to us. -

Ok- this is going to be a little bit of a rant. I had an incident while out shore fishing today. Had a slip bobber rig out. There was a nice drift and the wind at my back, so my bobber was a good ways out. Farther than I can cast personally, but not out of a good cast range. So there I am enjoying myself, when some idjit comes speeding by super close to shore, runs over my line, and BOOM- no more rig for me. I know they were aware that they ran it over because they kept looking back at me as the booked it to the marina. My first impulse was to run to my truck, catch them pulling their boat out at the marina and deliver a super cuss out. But then I reminded myself that Karma is a bigger b**ch than I'll ever be. Anyways- this is not the first time that something like this has either happened to me, or I've witnessed it. If you're in a boat, move out of shore casting range. You have the entire lake for crying out loud! Its not like anyone can steer the fricking dock! Ive done my share of boat fishing too- and I know that sometimes the best fishing is heading toward shore. However, I can share the fun and either go slow enough to be sure Im not messing up the mood of those fishing from shore, or heading out to the spots they cant access from there. The people trolling or pulling those planer boad thingies so they're passing only about 50 feet from you are the worst. I've been tempted several times to buy some of that steel line used in deep sea fishing, throwing a super heavy weight on it, and casting it out so its right next to whatever fishing setup I have. Go on and run that over- see how it turns ourt. But again- what I said about Karma...

Cayuga lake trout were partying and hungry on cinco de Mayo and the weather couldn't have been more perfect. Had an epic day, 19 lakers landed & 1 salmon. It's like going to the gym and getting a heck of a workout, strong fish. Largest fish of the day, a 29.75" 9.9 pound moose. All released except one to eat. Fish came mostly from the east shore, anywhere from a couple of miles south of Myers all the way up to the power plant. They were active and hungry. Good luck to all out there today! -
Another good day on Cayuga! Couldn't get the browns or silvers to play but the lakers did!- 1 reply

A quick afternoon shakedown, was beautiful on the water, good to be back. Fished 2pm to 530pm went 7 for 8 on the lakers. The little guy has become quite the rod hog! -
Does anyone know of a decent place to launch on the north end of Cayuga? I checked out the launches at Union Springs, across the west side at the state park, and most of the ones in between. The water level is way too low for any of those launches. My boat is a 16.5 foot with a 90 HP, not huge but not small either. The web page with the Cayuga lake water level shows it up about a foot since last weekend but I don't think that would be enough. On another note, does anyone know when the state launch on the west side of Skaneateles will be unlocked?

Checked launches at Treman. Still looks to be 3.5 down from normal levels. Owasco lake is reported to be low as well. Not a lot of snow for future runoff. Anyone have any insight as to what they are doing with the locks?

Launched at Taughannock at 9am. Good news,,, water level is much higher than the last time I was there (3/29/18). I would say 18"-24" higher. The ladder on the dock is in the water!. left inlet and shot straight across to East shore. Trolled north until we got to the power station. Is that power station still operating? Boards with sticks, riggers with spoons. No hits till we got to the power station, all spoons on riggers, all lakers, 80fow. Surface temp was 38 deg. Saw very few fish on screen. Was very happy to pick up half dozen lakers (8 passes in front of power station). Continued on North for 45 minutes, crossed over to west side, trolled back to Taughannock. All fish caught were in front of power station. Pulled out at 3pm. Great weather today.

Fished south end out of Taughannock from 3 to 7. Trolled Thundersticks, Rapalas spoons and streamers on boards and dipseys. One small brown and one pickerel. Water temp along west shore was 37 with clear water. East shore was 40 and cloudy. Only one other boat trolling. Found lots of lakers and bait very deep near Bolton Point. Lots of perch fisherman in front of Canoga.

Has anyone been to the launch recently? I’m headed over there on Tuesday and was wondering if the water is up and launch is clear. Thank you in advance.

FYI In case you use Taughannock launch: The Taughannock boat ramp will be closed 3/5/18 to 3/9/18 and perhaps into the following week. So states a sign posted on the dock. a contact number 607-387-6739 is also posted. -
Has anyone been to long point launch? Is the water really low ? Thank You In advance.

Tried to launch out of Treman at 8am. Channel is clear but the water was so low my Fishmaster 196 got stuck in the mud at the ramp. Finally got it back on trailer and scooted up to Taughannock. No problem getting in and out here. Trolled West side. Worked the boards in close this time. Stayed in 30fow or less most of the time with sticks off the boards, both shallow and deep divers. Picked up 10 LL, biggest was maybe 22", but most were 12-14". Picked up a nice brown that was close to 3lbs. Moved out to 100fow for about an hour and ran the riggers down 80' and picked up 4 lakers ( the 22" LL took a deep diver off the board in 100FOW). Pulled out out 1:30pm. Water was a steady 37.7deg. i see a few reports of Browns caught out of Irondeqoit and Olcott. I assume Sodus is still locked up with ice?

Our lake house is about 2 miles north of the power plant on honoco rd.. we were do I g work today and I took a few casts with an old ugly stick bait. Lake trout following almost every cast.. landed 2 over 6 lbs... in 2.5 f ow to 6 inches..... puking up 2 to 3 inch gobies https://ibb.co/dxMUy7

Launched at Taughannock at 10:30am, pulled out at 3:00pm. Air temp was 23 deg at 10:30 and 33deg at 3:00. The water level is LOW but was able to get my Fishmaster 196 in and out. Started to troll north after exiting inlet but too many ice chunks so we turned south on the west side. Planer boards with small rapalas and riggers at 70' with spoons was our plan. Picked up half dozen lakers on riggers and 4 LL (12 inchers) on sticks. Water temp was 37.1 deg from surface down to 70'. Ramp area clear of snow AND there was rock salt spread on ramp. Saw one other boat.

Looking for a cabin to rent over Memorial Day weekend from mid to southern Cayuga. Doesn't have to be on the water. Preferably to sleep 6. Hard to believe my hunting and fishing partner is graduating from an Ivy League College. Figuring my pickup with fishing and hunting stickers will stick out like a sore thumb on campus! Willing to trade weekend in our cabin along beautiful Penns Creek in central Pa. Excellent fly fishing (google Penns Creek Green Drake hatch). 3 bedroom cabin with all amenities.
