  1. Cayuga 9-12-17 Fish time fishing Cayuga today. Ussally fish Seneca but that's the dead sea this year so we moved. Launched out of taughannock and trolled north. Fished from 11 to 4pm. Went 4 for 7, 2 drink Lakers and 2 4-5 pounders. White ff combo and dodger/spin n glo on 7 color lead where the hots. Lost a screamer on the lead half way into the boat. Be at it again tomorrow morning
  2. Cayuga 9/10 Fished Cayuga at long point sp. South. I stayed in at 100 to 120. Riggers at 60 70 85. All spoons, green frog was killer. 3 rainbows, one 7.0 lb other 3 and 3.5. Seven Lakers most 2.5 lbs, but one 8lbs. Funny thing the rainbow were in the areas of the most floating weed debris. The Lakers were most active about 5:30 pm. Wonderful evening.
  3. Attach is the entry form for the B & B Fall Trout and Bass fishing derby September 11th and 12th, 2017. You can sign up at Bear's Baits, located at Myers Park in Lansing New York. B&B Fall Trout and Bass Derby Flyer.pdf
  4. Cayuga 9/4 Launched early out of Myers and headed north to Milliken. Had a little slow start. Didn't have good screens until we were inside 140 FOW. Marked a ton of bait and fish right in front of Milliken. Picked up a lot of decent lakers 80 to 90 ft down on riggers and green spoons over 100 to 140 FOW. We crossed over to Treeman and pretty much had the same thing goin over there. Couldn't seem to get any silver to hit but it was a decent day.
  5. Dean and I hit the lake this morning early. The last few trips we were all over the bait but the fish didn't seem to wanna cooperate. So we made a run north. Glad we did. We immediately got into hungry fish. Dean reeled in the first and largest brown and did a great job. We picked away at a few more browns and then it went quiet. After two miles north of nothing we ran back to were the bite stopped and ran into a 9lb 4oz 30inch Rainbow. It's a new personal best and I couldn't have done it without my net man Dean Belden. 6. Cayuga County Fishing Report for September 1-8, 2017 The fishing report below is made available from the Central New York Fishing Hotline for September 1 through 8 at http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/9218.html. Please visit that site for more information or to follow links. A number of county web sites offer good information on fishing in the region, including bait shops, guides, etc. A few examples are: Onondaga County (fishonondagacounty.com); Oswego County (visitoswegocounty.com); and Wayne County (waynecountytourism.com). Oswego and Wayne counties also have a weekly fishing hotline on their web page as well. April 1st was the start of the new Freshwater Fishing Regulation Guide, April 1, 2017-March 31, 2018. You can obtain a copy from a licensing agent or view it at Summary of Freshwater Fishing Regulations. Labor Day weekend is typically a very busy boating weekend so be prepared to deal with longer lines at launch sites. A little courtesy can go a long ways to making everyone's day more enjoyable. Region 7: Lake Ontario Salmon are being found in 100 to150 foot of water, though some are still being taken in water as deep as 400 feet. Chinook salmon fishing continues to be very good with flasher and flies producing the most action at this time, but cut-bait is also working. J-plugs usually become productive as we get into September, but so far that hasn't seemed to be the case. Green and white continue to be good colors. Try for smallmouth bass in 20 to 30 feet of water with crayfish, tube jigs or drop-shot rigs. To see the rest of this report, please visit www.ILoveNYFishing.com!
  7. Cormorants on cayuga Has anyone noticed they are there by the THOUSANDS???.. I knew they were around, but the south end of the lake was infested with them, from Treman to Myers and beyond.. big flocks everywhere, diving, resting, flying.. Great,... with all the problems on these lakes, this is just what we needed,.,, I hope they eat billions of gobies, and choke as they are doing it.. Cormorants in the numbers I observed is a very bad thing.. They decimate fish populations in pretty short order... bob
  8. Hoping to target rainbows this weekend I'm hoping to head to Cayuga on saturday and wanted to target rainbows and salmon. I've been pretty consistently catching just lake trout. I can't seem to catch a rainbow, brown, or salmon. I've used spoons, and flasher flies. But no luck other than lake trout. I know speeds are a little higher for rainbows and salmon than lake trout. I've been setting 2 riggers, one at 70 and one at 40 both with cheaters on. I'm still fairly new to this and trying to sort everything out. Any ideas are much appreciated.
  9. Cayuga County Fishing Report for August 25 - September 1, 2017 The fishing report below is made available from the Central New York Fishing Hotline for August 25 through September 1 at http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/9218.html. Please visit that site for more information or to follow links. You can obtain a copy from a licensing agent or view it at Summary of Freshwater Fishing Regulations. Region 7: Lake Ontario Strong winds during the week have made getting out difficult at times. Salmon are moving shallower and are being found in 100 to 150 feet of water. Chinook salmon fishing continues to be very good with flasher and flies producing the most action, but cut-bait is also working. J-plugs usually become productive as we get closer to September as well. Green and white continue to be good colors. Try for smallmouth bass in 20 feet of water with crayfish, tube jigs or drop-shot rigs. To see the rest of this report click here to visit ILoveNYFishing.com.
  10. Cayuga-Saturday Took my wife's friend's husband out with me on Saturday. Launched out of Dean's and set up going south. 2 dipsy rods with flasher/fly set at 200 and 175 on 2 setting. 3 rigger rods set from 50 to 80. Dipsy at 200 goes off, give rod to Jin (orange shirt), coach him on how to reel him in. Lose fish, bad coach. Same rod goes off again and I just keep reeling in, not giving any slack and able to land the salmon. I've been losing a number of fish on the dipsy/flasher rig this year. Have been trying to coax them in and I think it's been giving the fish too much slack with the extra drag of the flasher. Set the other dipsy rod at 200 and it goes off. Nice rainbow reeled in by Jin. We're learning. Then caught a dink salmon. Dispy rods go dead but rigger rod goes off. I figure with 12lb test I don't need to be too careful. Wrong again. Breaks my line at back of boat. Didn't get a look at it but must have been a salmon or rainbow. Getting rough now the more south we go. Started to take in lines to head up north but got into a nice tangle with one of the dipsy rods and a rigger. But as I'm trying to reel in both rods, rigger rod seems like something's on it. Nice laker. Didn't feel like untangling the mess in the rough water so decided to end the day after a couple productive hours of fishing. Will have my wife's Korean church friends over this weekend for a nice grilled fish dinner.
  11. Cayuga 8/27 PM Slow pick but quality over quantity! Riggers were dead. Divers out 265 with green dot spinnies and green Big Weenies did the damage. Lakers were all 10 to 12 lbs and a new boat record 31 inch 14 lb Land locked! Fished a mile north and south of Sheldrake. Screen was loaded with bait and fish. RR
  12. Cayuga Sunday Went out off T-point...headed north. Ended up crossing over to AES. No numbers of fish, but BIG ones. 1 LLS 5-6lbs. , 2 Rainbows...the biggest one was quite a fish. Caught a 14 lb. Laker the other day , the Salmon, and the Rainbow all on a #61 Sutton...a TINY spoon. Maybe with all the baitfish (tons) they want something more petite? Who knows WHAT fish want on any given day. I usually use #44's, but decided to change. Go figure.
  13. Got out 8:45am - 2:45pm, trolled north from T-Falls up the west side almost to Sheldrake, and back south again on the west side. Started with a nice 21" LL, then a bunch of 2 - 6 pound lakers, couple of tiny rainbow, another LL 19", it slowed down late morning and then I got a beauty laker this afternoon, 33 inch 12 pound 12 oz... hit a purple/black/pink honeybee spoon 60 feet down in 240 fow. It had one red eye, likely from being caught in the past. My 2nd biggest laker ever, gave a great fight, and it was a beautiful day out there.

Region 7: Lake Ontario The strong winds we had last weekend "scattered" the salmon around and they are being found in 150 to 650 feet of water. Basically, keep covering water till you mark fish. When found, the Chinook salmon fishing continues to be very good with cut-bait, and flasher and flies producing the most action. Try for smallmouth bass in 20 feet of water with crayfish, tube jigs or drop-shot rigs. To view the rest of this report, click here to visit www.ILoveNYFishing.com
  15. Cayuga County Fishing Report for August 4 - 11, 2017 The fishing report below is made available from the Central New York Fishing Hotline for August 4 through 11 at http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/9218.html. You can obtain a copy from a licensing agent or view it at Summary of Freshwater Fishing Regulations. Region 7: Lake Ontario Chinook salmon fishing continues to be very good with fish being found in 150 to 450 feet of water. Down depth varies but 60 to 90 feet down has been a good starting point. Cut-bait, spoons and flasher and flies are still working and green continues to be a good color. Try for smallmouth bass in 10 to 20 feet of water with crayfish, tube jigs or drop-shot rigs. Cayuga Lake VHS was confirmed on some round gobies collected on Cayuga Lake in early May. For more information on this please view the Press Release. Keep an eye out for weed mats and other debris, as they have been an issue for some anglers when trolling. Fleas have also been a nuisance for some anglers when trolling. Sometimes using a heavier pound monofilament helps to avoid some of the fleas, as does trolling with lines that don't run straight "up and down", as lines fished off downriggers do. Instead try trolling with wire and dipseys, or copper. Vertical jigging is also another option if fleas get too bad. Anglers continue to have good luck catching lake trout either trolling or vertical jigging. Trolling 60 to 80 feet down over 90 to 120 foot of water has been a good starting point as has vertical jigging in 65 to 95 feet. Skaneateles Lake Trolling 40 to 50 feet down over 60 to 80 foot of water with small spoons is working for lake trout and an occasional rainbow trout. Look for smallmouth bass in 10 to 20 feet of water on perch colored Rapalas, tube baits, drop-shots, topwaters, and wacky rigged stickworms (Senko style baits). Rock bass should be biting in the same areas and on the same baits. Owasco Lake Weed mats and fleas are making trolling difficult at times. See Cayuga Lake above for tips on fleas. Lake trout are being taken 50 to 60 feet down on spoons or flasher and flies. A few rainbow trout are also being caught at that depth. Visit the Cayuga County Tourism web page for more fun things to do on and around the water at www.tourcayuga.com!
  16. big laker 8-6-17 Launched at Taughannock Park......headed north of the Boy Scout camp. Set up 2 dipseys for lake trout....one 255 ft. back. One 300 ft. back. I suppose they were down 75 to 85 or 90 ft. of water. Saw a BUNCH of baitfish on the way to Kidders. Caught 5 or so Lakers, 3 to 6 lbs. Not bad. They were all in 85-100 ft. of water. Then, a BIG hit....wow. I thought my rod would break. I had to stop the boat because I could not move the fish an inch...really strange. Then a felt a powerful tugging and I thought it must be tail hooked. It felt like bringing in a barn door...sideways. Long story short....14 lb. Laker!!! Not bad for Cayuga. When I figure this out, I will post some pics.
  17. Tom Margeit Memorial tournament Who's ready for this tourney less than 2 weeks away better sign up asap! Looking to be a good turn out! Chicken bbq after!
  18. Brown Trout Anyone here about a 27# Brown being caught out of Cayuga in the past two weeks. I've got a pic of one, Don't know the guy in pic.
  19. Got out with my 12 yr old nephew and my dad yesterday and again with the nephew today. Both mid morning-early afternoon trips. Six salmon, 3 small lakers, one small rainbow the first day. Best fish were a 5 1/4 lb and a 4 lb salmon. Today, started slow but then we got two on at once, one turned out to be a beauty 7 lb 27 3/4" rainbow, other a small laker. Half hr later another nice 4 lb rainbow. A few other small salmon and lakers, one other small bow and we let the nephew bring in almost all the fish. Had a ball. Best luck was between the scout camp and Kidders. All spoons, a bunch of colors were getting them, many depths 85 - 300 fow, 40-65 down. Fleas and weeds were annoying but we worked through it and the nephew was real happy. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. Cayuga report 7/22 pretty good day Fished Cayuga on Saturday, got a few nice atlantics, a couple rainbows, and a couple lakers. Couldn't find a brown trout for the grand slam! Most fish came from 30-60' down over 80-120 feet of water. Not many marks out in the center of the lake over 200-400', did much better closer to shore. Nearly all fish caught on small hammered nickel stinger spoons, some with a little blue or green stripe. Trolling speeds of 2.2-2.6 seemed to be best. The wind had just enough southwest in it to move most of the debris out away from one side of the lake, but once I located the debris free zone, it was not a problem at all. Be prepared to deal with fleas, they are manageable but if you want to set the lines and run for hours at a time, you will be disappointed. The fleas force you to check and clean off each line fairly often, but thats not a bad thing because it improves your fishing to check them often for tangles, weeds, or fish that didn't trip the release. In any case, it was a pretty good day! I think it helped that it was cloudy, not bright and sunny... and also there were very few pleasure boats out in the morning. That combo added up to some good biting fish. It wasn't fast but the fish are there if you work for them!
  21. HABs Just curious everyone's approach with the widespread/lakewide HABs confirmed on Cayuga as of 7/18? Y'all still eating the fish? I usually catch & release most fish, and save one or two to eat here and there. So, I don't mind going 100% catch & release for awhile, but it's a shame to let fish weighed in at a derby go to waste. I know there's varying opinions on whether these HABs are a concern with eating fish, and it's a relatively new issue without much scientific info out there about that. http://www.dec.ny.gov/chemical/83310.html
  22. Cayuga Report Was out with 2 trips on Sunday. Fishing was very good. North end. Temp break was about 35 foot. Parked my riggers at 40 foot with sliders and the silvers were chewing good. Had 3 salmon 5, 7 and 8 lbs. A 6lb brown. 2, bows 5 and 10 lbs. Weeded through a ton of short silvers and the lakers were up there too. I did have the divers out 275 and did a few lakers there but it was better out 160. Green dot spinnies with green flies. Warrior flutter spoons in purple alwife and firetiger with gold cups on the riggers and sliders. 10 color core down the chute with a watermellon spoon took a lot of fish too. I was out sunday the 9th and Monday the 10th with similar results. Fishing the same spread. I'm off for a couple weeks but will be out quite a bit in August. Good luck to all. RR
  23. Cayuga South End Tough day for me on Cayuga South End today 7/19/17. Launched at Treman at 6:15am. Headed to the west side to troll northbound. Blank screen FOREVER. Periods of debris that was a pain. Lots of fleas. Several snags on limbs. Dirty water. Boo hoo. I never had a hit. Never saw a fish check out my lures on my Lowrance. Picked up and ran North for a mile or so and set up again in spots that worked last time. Pulled out at 12:15. Kept riggers at 70-100 nearly all time because when I did see a fish on the screen it was in this range. Temp down 90ft was always around 45deg. 10 colors on my lead core, even threw out some Rapalas on a flatline. Used spoons of all colors, flies, spin docs, Dodgers, never got to the dipsies though. Did I mention I NEVER even got a hit? I'm gonna kick ass on them next time though. if you fished the south end today and caught fish I'd love to hear from you.
  24. Cayuga debris Pic taken this afternoon near SW corner of Cayuga.
  25. Salvo derby Good luck to all fishing the salvo derby tomorrow thanks to some quick work by a1 marine in moravia my motor is back running and we are all in on it! Everyone make sure to post updates of board if you stop into weigh or gear hear it over vhf!
