  1. Hello was wondering if anyone has been out of taughannock lately trolling with spoons and how they’ve been making out. Thinking of coming up tomorrow. Thanks In advance.
  2. My family and friends are renting a cottage on Cayuga in August. Whenever I've rented cottages before I've been able to park the trailer at the cottage but won't be able to this time. I plan on launching the boat at Long Point State Park. Anyone know if it would be a problem to leave the trailer at the park for the week? I think Don's marina is just south of the cottage so that might be another alternative. Thanks.
  3. The Cayuga County fishing report below is made available from the Central New York Fishing Hotline for May 31 through June 8, 2019 at https://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/9218.html Please visit that site for more information or to follow links. Due to lake Ontario's high-water level, the DEC North Sandy Pond boat launch is closed beginning Thursday, May 23, 2019. For more information please view the North Sandy Pond press release. Oswego and Wayne Counties have weekly fishing hotlines on their web sites as well and would be another good option for fishing reports; Oswego County (visitoswegocounty.com); and Wayne County (waynecountytourism.com). Though Onondaga County doesn't have a weekly fishing report, their web site is another good source of fishing information in the region (fishonondagacounty.com). The New York State Freshwater Fishing Regulations Guide runs from April 1 to March 31. The 2019-2020 Official guide has a picture of a mother and daughter holding a nice steelhead on the cover. The Fishing Guide can be picked up where fishing licenses are sold, or viewed at Freshwater Fishing Regulations Trout season kicked off on April 1st and for more information on trout fishing please view Fishing for Stream Trout, for places to go view Public Fishing Rights, and for anticipated stocking numbers view Trout Stocking. As of Friday, May 24th the following waters will have been stocked with trout: Owasco Outlet (May 3), North Brook (April 19), Salmon Creek (April 11), Owasco Inlet (April 10), and Fall Creek (May 9 and April 3). Region 7: Lake Ontario With the high-water levels there are no wake zones for many Lake Ontario shorelines and bays. Use caution if venturing out as there is debris floating around on most waters and be mindful of your boat wake as to not cause property damage. There are boating advisories for the bays and shoreline of Lake Ontario. For information on these, please view the County Sheriff’s website at https://www.cayugacounty.us/155/Sheriffs-Office. 4. Hi all, just moved to Interlaken right off Cayuga Lake. i bought a used ShoreStation 3600 boat lift and need to have it installed. Any suggestions? We live right on a cliff, making installation a bit challenging. Thanks in advance, Rick
  5. Hi guys, I fish Lake Ontario all the time, where we occasionally stumble upon an Atlantic or two. Now I've got the itch to try specifically for Atlantic's in Cayuga. I have never been to any of the finger lakes to fish. Any suggestions where to launch, and what works best this time of year? Also, how's the boat traffic? I am guessing it gets pretty busy around Memorial Day?

  7. Hi All - My father-in-law just bought a new boat, and we're looking to do a bit of fishing over the memorial day weekend. His home lake is Seneca, but I think I'll be pushing to fish more on the North side of Cayuga (Thinking of launching at either the state park or Dean's cove). It'd be great to get into some perch for a fish fry, so can people recommend spring time patterns that I should look for? Any kind of depth ranges to focus on? I primarily fish saltwater as I live in NYC, so freshwater is fairly new to me (trying to read and learn as much as I can.) If perch fishing doesn't work out, I wouldn't mind targeting some LMB. Can anyone let me know if the LMB are prespawn right now? I've fished the north end of Cayuga off my kayak once, and caught a few LMB on a keitech. It was during the summer months though. Here's a quick clip of my LMB on Cayuga.... Appreciate any help. Have a great holiday weekend, and for those fishing the Lake Trout Derby on Seneca, good luck!

The Brown Trout fishing continues to be good, though the wind has still been blowing a lot lately. Spoons have been working for Brown Trout and King Salmon with stick baits also working for Brown Trout. Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  11. Here's my report for Cayuga out of the South end. We hit the water around 8:30am. We had a slow start in the AM, hence the late start time. The ramps still have quite a bit of debris washed up, but we cleared a path easily enough. Water levels were good and we had no problem getting out. The inlet is in its typical 6-10' range. There's still plenty of debris floating around out there, FYI. Headed out and started trolling in 150-200 FOW. Plenty of good marks and bait out there. Not a single fish wanted to cooperate. We threw every kind of Moonshine spoon, fly/flasher, and Little Cleo that we had at them. Dipsy's and riggers. We also hit the shoreline on the east side of the lake with stick baits off the planer boards. Not a thing. I typically don't get out and troll this early in the year. I only talked to one other guy and he said he got skunked too. Just chalk it up to an off day? Anyone got any early season advice? Should've went turkey hunting instead!
  12. Just curious, does anyone catch eyes on the north end of Cayuga? I have my boat up by union Springs this year and thought it would be neat to try for them.

  15. Long story short, the family was supposed to go on vacation next week but our plans got canceled. I bought a new to me boat last year, its an Alumacraft 145 fisherman with a 25 hp tiller. Anyway I want to try and get my boat out with my son at some point next week and try jigging for lakers on Cayuga. We will be driving from Big Flats and just wondering if anyone would share a good starting location. I have jigged lakers on Keuka a few times but never tried Cayuga. We have been hitting the fish in the streams pretty good but I am really excited to get out on my boat!! Any tips for fishing Cayuga, if they are different than Keuka would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance!! Mike
  16. Is there a live bait shop near Lansing ? Or anywhere between Dryden and Ithaca/ Thanks in advance for any info.

  18. I’m new to the lake, I’d like to now what size flashers are you using? Same as Ontario? Also Christmas trees/ gambler setups, are you fishing on bottom? Ever suspended? Thanks in advance, I’d like to get out there in May when I get the boat out, I’m geared for Ontario.
  19. Late Saturday night at the track so slept in this morning. Such a great day I just had to get on the water. Launched at Dean's and lines wet by 10:30. Worked the shallow water for an hour hoping the overcast and little chop on the water might help but nothing doing. Didnt mark much bait and water temps at 36-37 even in shallow so maybe need a little warmer? Early Spring fishing is all new for me. Hopefully will get an idea of what the silvers like over the next month. Wind died off and lake went flat so worked out to 100 fow and started finding active lake trout. The biggest of the day was also the first of the day. Hammered a white flasher/fly off a dipsey set #2 out 200. Took a few minutes to get that one in and the next hour and a half was non-stop with fish taking the dipsey rig as first choice but downrigger with spoon and the long copper with a flasher/fly were firing too. I was spent at a Baker's dozen, all fish were in the 100-130 fow corridor. Scooted out towards the middle to take a peek but the screen was pretty much blank from 140 fow all the way out past 250 and back. Home by 2. Now time to try another recipe in the new smoker!

  21. Launched at Cayuga Lake park today. Not easy getting boat in. When I came back to launch two boats tried to launch and gave up. I ended up getting stuck in mud when trying to approach the south side launch. The water is very low and anything larger than a 16-17 boat will be difficult. Ended up getting 9 keeper perch and many pickerel.

  23. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up do NOT use the far south launch ramp at Treman. There is a log at the end that myself and another boat both kissed with our props this morning. No damage was caused at least to my rig however I would hate to see someone do damage! Water is still low aswell so be careful on any of the ramps and on your way out!
  24. Launched and loaded my Fishmaster 196 at Treman today. Yep, the water is low but I got in and out with no more than a lot of mud being stirred up. trolled east side up to the salt plant. Mixed bag of small LL, small rainbows, nice 6lb laker and a nice 5lb brown. LL on sticks, everything else on spoons. Fished 15FOW out to 75FOW. South end water temp was 36.6 and 37.1 at salt plant. Absolute gorgeous day on the water. One other boat trolling and one boat perch fishing. Bite died off for us around 1:00.
