I’m new to the lake, I’d like to now what size flashers are you using? Same as Ontario? Also Christmas trees/ gambler setups, are you fishing on bottom? Ever suspended? Thanks in advance, I’d like to get out there in May when I get the boat out, I’m geared for Ontario.

Late Saturday night at the track so slept in this morning. Such a great day I just had to get on the water. Launched at Dean's and lines wet by 10:30. Worked the shallow water for an hour hoping the overcast and little chop on the water might help but nothing doing. Didnt mark much bait and water temps at 36-37 even in shallow so maybe need a little warmer? Early Spring fishing is all new for me. Hopefully will get an idea of what the silvers like over the next month. Wind died off and lake went flat so worked out to 100 fow and started finding active lake trout. The biggest of the day was also the first of the day. Hammered a white flasher/fly off a dipsey set #2 out 200. Took a few minutes to get that one in and the next hour and a half was non-stop with fish taking the dipsey rig as first choice but downrigger with spoon and the long copper with a flasher/fly were firing too. I was spent at a Baker's dozen, all fish were in the 100-130 fow corridor. Scooted out towards the middle to take a peek but the screen was pretty much blank from 140 fow all the way out past 250 and back. Home by 2. Now time to try another recipe in the new smoker! -

Cayuga Be careful launching out of Cayuga Lake St Park

Launched at Cayuga Lake park today. Not easy getting boat in. When I came back to launch two boats tried to launch and gave up. I ended up getting stuck in mud when trying to approach the south side launch. The water is very low and anything larger than a 16-17 boat will be difficult. Ended up getting 9 keeper perch and many pickerel. -

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up do NOT use the far south launch ramp at Treman. There is a log at the end that myself and another boat both kissed with our props this morning. No damage was caused at least to my rig however I would hate to see someone do damage! Water is still low aswell so be careful on any of the ramps and on your way out!

Launched and loaded my Fishmaster 196 at Treman today. Yep, the water is low but I got in and out with no more than a lot of mud being stirred up. trolled east side up to the salt plant. Mixed bag of small LL, small rainbows, nice 6lb laker and a nice 5lb brown. LL on sticks, everything else on spoons. Fished 15FOW out to 75FOW. South end water temp was 36.6 and 37.1 at salt plant. Absolute gorgeous day on the water. One other boat trolling and one boat perch fishing. Bite died off for us around 1:00.

Finally some free time and decent weather to get on the lake. Water level was up enough to launch from Dean's so saved a half-hour plus drive each way when going to Taughannock. Started out working the shallow water with some stickbaits and spoons but nothing happening. Worked out deeper and found groups of actively feeding lake trout in 100-130 fow. Searched for a bit out to 250 fow but never found any big bait pods. Went back to the 1/2 mile stretch with the areas of feeding fish and had a great time bringing a dozen fish in. The first pic was a double, off dipsey #2 setting out 200 and a 500 copper. All fish went for flasher/fly except pic 2 who hammered this new spoon from the set sent to me by Jonathan Ross of Hawks Custom tackle. I asked him to send a starter set for Cayuga lake. So far so good! 👍 -

Launched out of Taughannock at 9:45 AM . Water was a very low but the ramp is in great shape . Turned north out of the inlet and trolled the west side from 60 feet of water to 120 feet of water. Near blank screen and never had a bite for 45 minutes. Sticks on boards and spoons on down-riggers. Turned east and headed towards the power plant. Picked up a 16 inch rainbow on the way over with a jointed Rapala black over silver. Trolled in front of the power plant for the next few hours. Lots of fish on the screen. Picked up a half a dozen land locked salmon in front of the power plant most of them around 12 inches all of them on the sticks. Also picked up seven Lake Trout in 100 feet of water with the riggers down 80. Most of the lake trout were the 2 to 3 pound range but one was a nice solid 8 pounds.. The light breeze that we started with at our launch died and the water got as smooth as glass. Great day to be on the water. Surface water temperature stayed at 36.5°. Pulled out at 3 PM.

Headed out of Taughannock yesterday by 7am. This was after I took the ice spud to the 3 inches at the shoreline and about 20 feet out into the launch. Was well prepared with spud and waders as I had checked it out the Friday afternoon prior. (You're welcome to anyone who came in after us.) The bubbler is working but with the extreme cold weather it could not keep up with the shoreline icing up. The channel itself was narrow but open. Ran boards with sticks and spoons. All the normal patterns I run this time of year. Ran about a half hour with nothing than it was on with pretty much non-stop action till we pulled the plug at 2:30, had to get home to sleep, worked 3rd shift on Sunday night so I could get out again this morning. The bag was mixed, browns salmon and lakers. Biggest brown was 8lb4oz biggest salmon was 6lb13oz. Lakers ran up to 7-8ish. Light chop on the water as the winds were about 10mph. We kept a 2 man limit with many released. Great easy day and felt great to be on the water, hadn't been on the lake since before deer season back in September. Between hunting and working 6 day weeks, haven't had any spare time for the boat and usually get out many times in December and January. As for today, totally different day. Launched by 7 again with no ice to chip today lol. Fished same areas with very few fish marked and only boated 2 lakers with only a couple other hits. Too nice of a day obviously and the parking lot was full with boat trailers when we came in, we packed it in around 1.I can't get back out till Sunday, I'm hoping for cold, overcast and 8-12 mph wind, fish will bite and fair weather fisherman will stay home. -
Planning to launch out of Taughannock on Wednesday 3/13/19. I'm sure water level is low and should be free of ice. Running 4 lines on boards and 2 on down riggers to start. Have not seen any reports from this past Saturday. Anything worth reporting? if I do indeed launch on Wednesday I will post a report. Thanks

With the low water level the home port, Dean's, was out so took a ride down to Taughannock. Surprised to see the lake level down a few more feet since there in January with Chowder. CAREFULLY launched the Wellcraft and props up until through the bridge as didn't need to rototill the bottom or the bubbler. Going solo means keep the wind at my back so headed North on the West side. Worked as shallow as I dared, never shallower than 40 for as didn't want the southeast wind to push the boat to shore. Could not get anything in the upper 20 feet but didn't mark much either. Moved out and zigzagged from 80-250. Would mark concentrations of fish now and then and go long stretches with a blank screen. Picked up some small salmon and lake trout on spoons at 40-60 foot depths. Worked deeper and a really nice fish took a Bloody Death spoon 80 feet down. Had him about 30 feet back before he spit it.... pretty sure a big angry lake trout. Stayed warm during the battle which made it worth the price of admission. First wet lines by 9:30, landed a 5 lb Laker on white flasher fly down 100 as wrapping up at 12:30 so a nice little trip despite the lack of consistent action. Shout out to the crew coming in to dock behind me. Rather than grumble about how long it takes for me to load out solo, one very limber fella jumped on my trailer and locked the boat on in a heartbeat. Appreciate it.

Has anyone launched from Dean's Cove in the past when the lake level is as low as it is now? I walked to the end of the dock today and my tape measure hit bottom with just 18 inches of water. Doesn't look like it gets much deeper past the dock either. Does DEC ever dig out all the silt and dead leaves on the bottom? I'm assuming Taughannock is the only spot on the West side that has a channel deep enough to launch. Anyone with past experience please let me know. -

Cayuga Lake Anglers are getting out on the north end, but ice thickness varies greatly in that area so use extreme caution if heading out. Had some time this afternoon so headed to Dean's and on the water by 2:30. Went North and zigzagged from 60-150 fow in search of fish. The screen had the most marks throughout the water column in 110-130 fow. Tinkered with speed from 1.6-2.3 and adjusted lure depths a few times. Finally found hungry lake trout down 80 feet. Picked up 3 stout fish off the chute copper with a flasher/fly. They liked the speed below 2.0. 3 other times that rod fired but fish didn't hook up. One laker took a spoon off the rigger also at 80 feet down. Plenty of fish were higher in the column but they were not buying what I was selling. Off the water at 4:30 and a fish fry with the family for dinner. Plenty of fillets left so excited to try out the smoker my wife gave me for Christmas. Hoping this Winter has more calm days like today!
