Finding it hard to figure out what the best 3 rod spread to use during this time in the season going from spring/colder water to summer/warmer water when targeting silvers - stay with one (or more) mono or short core planer boards? start using one (or more) wire dipsys? Go with one downrigger rod, one weighted steel, and one wire dipsy? or try all combos and let the fish decide? Grateful for any thoughts or suggestions -

So on the way home we pull into Union Springs launch to have a look. Quite a few vehicles with kayaks. We asked a couple guys what they were fishing for, the answer was Bass. My buddy asked them if they could do that and they said yes. The one guy said there were 106 entries yesterday for a tournament today. Just wondering how this can be legal on a closed season.

Good morning Gents, Looking to go to Cayuga April 21-23 & May 1-5th for some prespawn bass’n. Would anyone happen to have an update on the water temps? Will be fishing the northern end of the lake. I know it’s been a warm winter with not much ice at least by me, in Sullivan County NY. None of the lakes have froze and prespawn is in full affect here. I’ve been going to Cayuga usually the first week of May for the last two years and water temps fluctuated between 50-54 degrees. Always made out good with some biggin’s, hopefully it’ll be in the same ballpark this year ! thanks !

The launch and parking lot at Treman are clear of snow and ice. The water level today was 380.5. Prop kicked up some mud but no issues launching. We launched at 9:30 and pulled out at 2:15. We never moved a rod until noon. We initially trolled north along the east shore in 60fow and less looking for browns and LL. Planer boards with Rapallas and a lead core down the chute. Lots of sticks and leaves in the water kept us busy clearing lines. Crossed over to the west shore and continued with the north troll in 60fow and less. No leaves and no sticks,,, also no bites. Right around noon we decided to catch a few lakers before we had to pull out. Moved out into 100fow with riggers at 70’ and 90’. In the next 2 hours we boated 4 lakers (all nice size) and lost 4 others. Never saw a lot of fish on the screen except when we crossed from east to west side. Fish were 150’ down or more in 250+fow. Water temp stayed at 38.7deg. Calm wind and an occasional light breeze, mostly sunny, and was 58deg air temp when we pulled out. Hard to be disappointed just because we could not find the browns and LL. Saw one other boat.

I live 2 hours south of Ithaca. We got less than 1” of snow over the last couple days. Based solely on school closings it looks like Ithaca area got substantial snow. It looks like Thursday 3/16 will be a great day on Cayuga. Can anyone tell me if the launch at Treman is usable or is there deep snow in the parking lot? thanks

In case anyone is interested: Treman State Park launch is usable. I launched out of Treman State Park in my Fishmaster 196 today. Lake water level was 380.11. Outboard kicked up some mud but we had no problems. Not a hint of ice. We had hoped to hit some LL and browns but that did not happen. Picked up a dozen lakers though. Saw one other boat. Water temp hovered around 39.5. Great day to be on the water.

Cayuga Fishing South End of Cayuga lake in Novemeber/December
Girocks posted a topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
Hi, I'd love to get any help here. I just moved to the lake South-East end this November. I have never fish the lake at this time of the year. I'm fishing from the shore and would like to know what has been successful in catching trout/salmon in this location and time of the year. Anyone ? Any hints? Thank you as always to anyone helping out AG -
I live near Trumansburg. I desperately need to catch smallmouth bass! Any suggestions where to go this time of year? I'll be fishing out of a kayak. Thanks, Rick

I don't know if anyone has tried this, but last Sunday during my FLTA tournament. My tx-44 planers were struggling to stay afloat pulling 400 copper and 11 core. I removed both weights, burrowed a hole in the center and re-installed only one weight in the bottom center. WOW, what a change. They floated and pulled 30% better.
