Could someone tell me if the rt 79 hill going down into ithaca from the east is still under construction,Last time over i was re-routed all over cornell. .. It was not a fun trip not to mention the poor trailer and boat. Hate going through ithaca..to t-falls. Thanks for any info.

Hi folks, Love the site!!!! My wife and daughter and I will be trolling Cayuga for a week. We are avid trolling enthusiasts but have not fished in the finger lakes in the mid summer in 12 years. We have an 18' lowe walkthrough ith a 90 yami 4 stroke and a minn kota ulterra up front. A very nice fishing boat. My concern is the fleas. I have never dealt with them, ever. I have 2 Mag 5 downriggers with 150lb power pro downrigger line. My 2 downrigger rods have 40lb fluoro down to a 10 lb leader to the bait. I can stack another rod on each DR if advised. Off each side I use in line tx 12 boards with 1-2 oz trolling wts on 30 lb braid w/ a 10 lb fluoro leader to bait, or leadcore outfits 18 lb suffix with 10 lb leader to bait. I generally fish a dipsy down the middle of 30lb braid and 10lb leader to bait. I am fearful I may not be able to troll with the pesky fleas. Will I get killed by these critters or just annoyed? I don't have time to set up wire rigs we will be staying just south of Deans ramp. We are fishing on mon 7/23 with the jigmaster captain John. (I set this up to do something different and a backup if the fleas kill us-LOL) Any advice?? Any suggestions?? Any Changes ?? what should I expect? we troll everything from livebait with my Ulterra to flutterspoons, plugs and dodgers and flies with the big motor and trolling plate. from .8 to 2.5 mph generally Please help thanks so much

Trolled dipsies from Myers to the power plant. Trolled 70 to 90 ft. of water, 50 to 65' down. Took 10 lakers and one landlocked salmon from 5:30 to 8:30am. Surface temps.at the magical 70 degrees. Fleas are becoming a big nuisance. Lots of bait everywhere. Fish are all clean. These are the good old days!

Never fished Cayuga thinking about at trip in a few weeks.Would like to target salmon Any info on where to launch,depth to start,would be appreciated.Also are fleas a problem at this time of the year?If so how do you rig for salmon and rainbows? Thanks

Launched at Myers around 5AM and headed north to the power plant. A few pics below. Lake was perfectly calm today and the fishing was great. 11 Fish landed by 10:00AM when we packed up and went to work. Fish were shallower than on the weekend. Best fishing was between 40-60 FOW. I don't normally look that shallow but the screen was blank anywhere above 60 FOW. Biggest fish was 28" and came in 45 FOW. I am happy to report I have seen no lampreys at all on Lakers this year, I have even seen Lakers with no lamprey wounds at all. Whatever has occurred that caused them to be gone, it is working from what I see. I also got the FF dialed in a bit more and figured out what was causing all that noise. Very happy with the way it performed today. All fish released successfully. Screen seems almost impossible to keep clean with fish spraying slime everywhere when we land em but Ill get a cloth for it at some point. -
My twin nephews are in town from down south so we took a quick evening troll to see if we could find some fun. Launched out of Dean's and trolled with the waves zigging in and out of the 80' shelf running 3 riggers and 2 short cores. Both nephews and my 4 year old each reeled in their first laker and were all kinds of excited as they each reeled in their "monster fish". I think I have a good supply of fishing buddies in my future! Also included a pic of another crew in case they're here. -
Can anyone recommend a tackle shop for some equipment (spoon, flies, spin and glo's) and advice for my trip up to Cayuga next week. I am staying on the lake just south of Aurora. Thanks in advance.

Solo trip from Dean's Cove on a calm and peaceful lake this morning. Went North near the silos and back for a three hour trip. Marked the most fish a little deeper than the past couple weeks. 120-150 fow showed fish from 30 feet on down. Couldn't convince anything but a short salmon above 60 feet off the down riggers. The copper carrying a flasher/fly was the workhorse this morning, as it consistently fired, mostly with lake trout but also a couple 20 inch landlocks. I definitely had "the look" of NymphO's son a few times, especially after spending about 10 minutes working in a stout laker! Left that one and a few others in the water but kept 1 of the salmon and a small Laker for a nice grilled dinner tonight. Sorry no pics..... I don't do selfies. 😉

The weekend of June 23 - 24, 2018 is free fishing weekend. Anyone can fish the freshwater of New York State and no license is required. It's the perfect time to take a friend or relative fishing! The New York State Freshwater Fishing Regulations Guide runs from April 1st to March 30th. The 2018-19 Official guide has a picture of an angler holding a giant smallmouth bass on the cover. The Fishing Guide can be picked up where fishing licenses are sold, or viewed at Freshwater Fishing Regulations Oswego and Wayne Counties have weekly fishing hotlines on their web sites as well and would be another good option for fishing reports; Oswego County (visitoswegocounty.com); and Wayne County (waynecountytourism.com). Though Onondaga County doesn't have a weekly fishing report, their web site is another good source of fishing information in the region (fishonondagacounty.com). Region 7: Lake Ontario Brown Trout fishing continues to be good on the big lake and they are being taken by trolling with stick baits or small spoons in 25 to 60 feet of water. Fishing early or late in the day has been better. Chinooks are being taken in 100 to 150 feet of water on spoons or flashers and flies. Lake Trout are being found in around 120 feet of water. Ok so I've been asked by numerous people if this event was going to run again this year and I now have the answer! The date is set for August 11th 2018 with the weigh in at south Seneca sportsmans club. I will post more details as I get them but mark it on the calender if you want to fish a great event. Last year's turn out was great and we'd love to see this year be even better! Those of you who fished the LOU All last the weigh in is at the same place and I'd love to see a bunch of LOU members at this event aswell! -
Got out with guide John Gaulke (fingerlakesanglinzone) on North end. I got 16 Lakers from 7am to 11am. All but one of the fish ranged from 26 to 29 inches. Lost another 4 or 5. All hefty fish with only a few healed lamprey marks. Fish were super active taking numerous dives and even caught a couple drifting that wanted to run and dive. I just got my 'new to me ' boat set up with ulterra , rods and fishfinder and hadn't fished much over the past couple years. Just making sure i had all the right stuff and John gave me pointers on my Lowrance because he had the same one. Mostly all white's , but got a couple on greens. I get out with John once in a while because as a guide he gives me shore landmarks and I've never fished the north end. Definitely a day to remember !!!!!!! Surface temperatures are increasing and the bait and big fish moving deeper. We targeted rainbows and found 52 degree water down 50 over 120 on the West side half way between Deans cove and Sheldrake. Ran stacked riggers 40 and 60, Slide divers at 50. Took a couple of nice ones on the divers and some Lakers off the riggers. The 6lb bow liked a rainbow Needlefish and the 7 lb one ate a greasy chicken wing scorpion. -

We had a decent afternoon today. We went 4/5 on lakers 3 on Hooked Custom Spoons and one on flasher and homemade Fly. -
The cotton was too heavy to troll my favorite runs. Found some clean water just south of Long Point and stayed on it all Friday and Sat morning. Shallow program again in 35 to 45 fow with surface temps 55 and 54 each morning. Boated a mixed bag of lakers, salmon, browns and bows. 33 on Friday, 21 Sat. Hottest lure was a silver streak green alewife on the slide divers and riggers, but largest fish were taken on the inline boards running J-7 jointed black and silver rapalas. Best fish an 11-4 brown we couldn't release, but put the 10 pounder back in the pond. -

Strong, NNW winds in the morning gave us second thoughts, but we gave it a go. Still running a shallow program in 20 to 25 fow. Because of the wind we found surface temperatures fluctuating from 48 to 56. 23 fish boated throughout the day. Mostly lakers, a couple good ones, 4 short salmon and took a nice bow off the inline board with a J-7 jointed brown trout in the evening as the lake laid down. 8lbs 8ozs. -
I am vacationing on Cayuga lake this year with my family and will have the opportunity to get some fishing in. The only problem I see is that we are staying at the north end of the lake by Seneca Falls and I want to fish for salmon and lakers. Looking at my charts I see if I go down by Aurora across the lake there are depths from 100-300' deep. Is that far enough down the lake to get into the salmon and lakers? I will be fishing dipsys on wire rods mainly. Also any help would be appreciated as to whether the west or east side would be a better starting spot. -
Is there an afternoon or evening bite? Coming on a Sunday in the next 2 weeks or is it a waste of time? Figure I'll get there at noon and fish until about dark. Thanks! -
Took my son (right) and his friend Adam (left) fishing on Friday hoping to get Adam into a large fish as he's only been out fishing once in his lifetime. Launched out of Deans. What started out promising with a number of marks on the fishfinder, though the fish seemed to be very deep, couldn't get anything to hit. Set up 5 rods- 2 riggers, 2 dipsy divers, and one planner board with mix of spoons and flasher/flies set from surface down to about 80ft. Fished in 200-250 foot range mostly and couldn't get a rod to move. With time running out, snacks running low, and it being very HOT with little wind, the kids still did not complain though I know it was getting to them. I decided to go towards shallower water and set one of the riggers down to 135 foot. Just when we decided to call it a day (hard for me because I've never been skunked on Cayuga) that rigger released. Gave the rod to Adam who started cranking on the reel but that laker didn't want to move. Finally got him to the surface and my son Ryan did a great job of netting the fish (he has more fun netting the fish then catching them). Anyway, it was a great way to end the day and these two kids never complained despite the heat and no electronics! Hats off to them! The fish hit a blue aqua spin doctor and fly. And a great thank you to a very nice gentleman at the launch(think his name was Tom) for taking that picture and sending it to us. -
Fairly new to lake trout fishing as I live in NYC. However, I'm planning to do some laker jigging this coming Memorial Day weekend on Cayuga lake, and was hoping for some guidance on the laker fishing this time of year. I fish from a kayak, so my range is limited to a mile or two from where I launch. I was planning to fish out of Dean's cove due to proximity to where I'm staying, and wanted to know if good laker fishing can be found in that area, or if I should focus more south like Taughannock. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
